Reviews: Viva Old Manila: Intramuros Walking Tour

Russell was an amazing tour guide: knowledgeable, articulate, passionate, and sensible. The tour was well-paced and relaxed but still managed to cover a lot of ground. As a balikbayan, I got very emotional hearing about the awful things that happened to our people in the last 400+ years of our history. It's definitely different when you see it in context, not just hearing it in a classroom or textbook. My only comment would be that Russell sometimes was too apologetic about relaying painful truths, especially about the Americans, the Japanese, or the government. Never apologize for telling the truth, especially when it's painful - this is how we truly learn from history. Highly recommended. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I enjoyed the route; Manila doesn't have many attractions for visiting tourists. This route covers them all, and it even includes lunch with a truly amazing variety of East Asian dishes.

Our driver, Roy, was incredibly nice. He not only explained the fascinating culture and lifestyle of the Philippines, but he also seemed to know a lot about Chinese culture, including Mao Zedong Thought! I hope he has the opportunity to visit China someday. Regarding the itinerary, we opted for a lake tour at our own expense, getting up close to Taal Volcano. Those prone to seasickness can skip this step.
