I took the tour with the guide Susie. She wasn't a bad guide, but she did some pretty "unusual" things (maybe that's normal in China but this is the first time I’ve had this Kind of expérience ) The day's visit was incredible, but I found it quite strange: -She calls us by numbers and never by our names. -I found myself on a boat with her and a group of Chinese people, and not once did she translate into English for me. It was actually another Chinese traveler who translated for me because I couldn't understand any of the tour explanations. -On the bus ride back, she asked everyone to write a good review with their name on it, forcing them to do it immediately. -She only gave souvenir gifts to certain people. Otherwise, the visit itself was magical.

Unlike other sections of the Great Wall, Jinshanling Great Wall has very few tourists and incredibly stunning scenery. The hike took three hours in total.

If you wanna see the Great Wall without a lot of people, this is worth the distance to go far. It was a 2 1/2 hour drive. We had our five year-old son with us and we took the cable car to the Jinshanling Great Wall area after we got dropped off by the tour bus and got picked up by a private car to go to that area, which is about an hour away from Simatai, where most of the group was at. after we got drop off on the side of the road, we got picked up by a private car it was about 30-40 minute drive. There wasn’t much communication we had to use Google translator. He took us to a restaurant a little bit off the beaten path and said we should have lunch keep in mind you don’t have to.

We really enjoyed our trip to Jinshanling Great Wall. The agent who organised the pickup was very friendly and helpful, especially during the military parade when most of the roads were closed. The driver went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and recommended us a good restaurant for lunch. Highly recommend


