Our guide, Yoshitani, was very friendly! Unfortunately, it coincided with the "mountain scorching" (wildfire) of Mount Aso, a traditional event held annually in February and March in the Aso region of Kumamoto Prefecture. The aim is to maintain the vast grassland landscape, prevent deforestation, and prepare for new grass growth in spring by burning dry grass. Everything was a dark, smoky black. We'll have to come back another day!★

I discovered this service through Google while searching for the JR pass for Kyushu. It was very quick to apply, and you can pay with tripcorns. I received a confirmation email from JR immediately after applying. To redeem my ticket, I showed the email with the QR code from my phone at the Kagoshima Station ticket counter and received my pass. I also booked my train tickets right away, so everything worked!About
