This was far more than just a food tour — it was a true experience of Kolkata at night. The guide, Avik Mitra, is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about his city. He shared fascinating stories about local life, culture, and history while leading me through the lively northern part of the city. We explored narrow old streets, took local transport, and visited small traditional eateries that have been serving amazing Bengali food for generations — some for more than a hundred years! Each stop felt authentic and full of character. The dishes were delicious, but what made the evening special was the insight and warmth Avik brought to every moment. It felt like walking the city with a local friend who knows every hidden gem. Highly recommended!★

What a fantastic day with Chandrayee. She was knowledgeable about her city and was an excellent Ambassador. Having it be personal allows you to be flexible with your request. Given that I like architecture, my only recommendation for those who will choose this tour and may wish more time with the colonial buildings - I would suggest working with Chandrayee and starting the tour earlier and skipping one of the other activities. Chandrayee was professional, thoughtful and aware of her guest needs! Bravo!!★

This highly recommended private tour of Kolkata offers a truly enriching and memorable experience, with Muzaffar as an absolutely fantastic guide.
Guide and Experience
Muzaffar is an extremely knowledgeable guide, articulate and passionate about the history, culture, and details of Kolkata and India in general. He answered all our probably weird questions, making the entire experience engaging and fun. We learned a significant amount about the city and we would not have been able to set up such a tour by ourselves.
Muzaffar provides an exceptional service and is nice, kind, friendly, and very flexible, easily adjusting the tour to our personal preferences and requests. The driver is also to praise for navigating the Kolkata traffic.
Tour Highlights
The tour hits all the main sites but can be customized. This is what we visited:
We started by a memorable and humbling visite at Mother Teresa house museum and tomb.
Our guide also took us to three Jain temples in Kolkata (Dadabari and Mahavira Temple), spread over three complexes.
We then went to New Market, a massive olf covered market where you can find everything from needle to diamond. Quite an experience. We bought some spices and tea.
We visited the old english district with massive buildings and later the park around Victoria Memorial (opted for not going inside) and St Paul's Cathedral.
The Flower Market was quite an authentic experience with Muzaffar guiding us through the narrow streets below the Howrah Bridge.
The peaceful visit to the "potter's district in Kumartuli to see amazing clay sculptures being created for the festivals and learning about it was for me the highlight.
We also went to College Street for coffee and snacks at the Indian Coffee House and were gifted a poetry book by Rabindranath Tagore, Nobel prize of litterature.

This private tour is really the most effective way to see the city. The high quality of the experience, especially with Muzaffar, will save you time and headache if this is your first time in India and a little apprehensive to discover such a big city.★

Our guide, Champa, was absolutely fantastic! She communicated with us in advance to make sure the timing worked with our schedule and was more than willing to customize every part of the trip to create the most interesting day possible.
The car was clean and comfortable, and our driver handled both the heavy traffic and our many stop requests with ease. Champa quickly picked up on the types of experiences we enjoyed most and suggested additional stops we never would have found on our own.
If you’re adventurous, ask for some “OMG” moments—Champa will definitely deliver! She is engaging, knowledgeable, and a true ambassador for the culture of Kolkata and the Bengal region.
Totally worth the time and expense—this was a memorable day we’ll never forget!
