A fun afternoon out in Bristol. The route stays fairly central so ideal for lunch & pubs etc for refreshments. Learnt lots of new things about the city too.

Overall the entire day was EXCELLENT! The museum et al was in a very good tidy and informative condition! The vfm restaurant was also excellent particularly as none of us aged adults were big lunch eaters they willingly served us the kiddies portions. Just the right amount and very good value. One minor point that would improve the museum was to replace the above ankle ropes ‘barring’ close inspection of the planes etc with higher rope offs not ankle grazers! ?! As present they could be b dangerous as I was stopped from approaching one of the plane oldies by my brother in law who had himself been focused on the display NOT his feet. The highlight? Undoubtedly Concorde the sight and presentation of which was amazing as was Colin the volunteer guide!! My colleagues and I thought the whole day was brilliant! We were glad to see that our heritage was displayed well but I guess a tiny bit disappointed that this once central location of British design and leadership excellence had shrunk?!

Excellent, there was a great sense of authenticity, and thankfully no hint of anything being manufactured. Our guide Owen was brilliant and was obviously committed to the project.
Reviews: Shepton Mallet Prison Self-Guided Tour

We visited Shepton Mallet Prison on a warm Bank Holiday Monday having pre booked for the guided tour which also includes an excellent guide book and the opportunity to roam freely around the whole site after the 90 min tour. Roger our ‘Prison Officer’ tour guide was excellent. Really knowledgeable, very inclusive and conscious that some of the things might upset people so warmed in advance of people wanted to opt out of various parts. The pace of the tour was perfect and there were only 12 of us so there was loads of space and time to look properly at things. Having the opportunity to go back for a quick drink in the waiting area before then exploring on our own after was just brilliant. They were in the middle of preparing to film for Young Sherlock so that was also rather fascinating (making Shepton Mallet Prison look like Newgate!)

I really enjoyed the walk, which covered the history, art, architecture and best places to visit in Bristol. Would certainly recommend for those visiting or who live in Bristol and want to understand more about the culture.
