Reviews: Gaudí's Crypt & Colonia Güell From Barcelona + Audio Guide

Colonia Güell is an old working-class community built around Mr. Güell's textile factory. Various architects built modernist houses, most within walking distance of each other. The highlight is Gaudí's Crypt. We visited the Crypt first and then looked at the other houses. You can borrow the audio guide for 2 hours against a deposit (ID or driver's license). After the walk, we went to eat at Ateneu Unió on Placa Joan Güell. The food was good, the portions were large enough for us, and it wasn't expensive.

This was a very fun day-hike at Montserrat. Our tour guide was Ramone who spoke very good English. We did enter the Monastery briefly and the tour guide described about 20 minutes of history about it, to us. He also had talked a bit about Barcelona and Catalunya and Spain on the drive up. We did not get to see the Black Madona up close as that is not part of this tour. We did see it (it is enshrined above and behind the front alter area of the Basilica) and is visible but 'small by distance', from within. The main purpose of the tour is a guided and well narrated 3+ hour hike around the Monserrat mountains.

Eduardo was a fantastic guide! We had a great time on our trip. He has a fun personality and told us a lot about Catalan culture and history. The places we went were spectacular, Montserrat is an incredible place. We even had a bit of time to take the funicular up to the top of the mountain. In Cordona the salt mines were very interesting. The salt mine tour is in Spanish though I had read that was the case before going so not a surprise. We had a very lovely lunch in Cordona with some delicious authentic Catalan food. We ended up with a walk around the castle, now my son can say he has been to a real castle :). Cinc estrelles, moltes gràcies Eduardo!

This tour was the best we've done in Barcelona. Alba is a fantastic guide and has become a friend. It snowed in Montserrat, and we absolutely loved the Llopart winery in the Penedès region. I highly recommend visiting the museum next to the Basilica; it has a wonderful collection of works by various artists and is truly beautiful! A magical and unforgettable day. Thank you, Alba! 😘😘
