The Route of the Salt Flats
08:00 hrs. Departure from San Pedro de Atacama towards Paso de Jama. Chilean Border Control. Via the international route Paso de Jama, the road climbs a constant slope, formed by lava and ashes.

Along the way we stop to admire the beautiful panoramic view of the Salar de Atacama and the Oasis of San Pedro de Atacama. At km 41 at an altitude of 4,200 m, this crossing or detour to Hito Cajón Norte LICANCABUR allows us to appreciate the majestic volcano of 5916 M. of altitude.

We continue between high mountains, where it is common to find groups of ostriches, at km 75 we can see small lakes where flamingos and other birds live at km 91 they pass through the hills of the Pakana, then we go around the Farellón de Tara, a rock wall carved with sculptures, a little further, an esplanade, where we see the Moai de Tara, also known as the Pakana Witness, are a set of columns such rock structures that were preserved in geological times as evidence of violent volcanic events that occurred during the Tertiary period, then, panoramic view of the Pakana Cathedrals, arrival at the Salar de Tara located at 4500 meters, with a wonderful landscape and its unique ecosystem of the Salt Lake where the presence of numerous highlights are the most common birds flamingos chilensis.
