Itinerary
On April 3, 1853, the Unterlinden Museum officially opened its doors. It displays works of art such as the 3rd-century mosaic discovered in Bergheim in 1848, the Issenheim Altarpiece, and the Dominican Altarpiece by Martin Schongauer, which were confiscated during the French Revolution.

Today, the Unterlinden Museum offers its many visitors dialogue and knowledge, emotion and pleasure. It offers a tour covering nearly 7,000 years of history, from prehistory to 21st-century art.

This journey through time, at the heart of the archaeology, fine arts, history, and society collections, allows visitors to discover the many facets of the museum's architecture, unified and magnified by the renovation and extension work carried out by architects Herzog & de Meuron, which was completed in 2015.

As you walk through the rooms of the former 13th-century convent, the old municipal baths inaugurated in 1906, and the contemporary spaces built in 2015, as well as the museum's collections, you will see the successive stages of a history spanning more than 170 years.

The museum team welcomes you and accompanies you on your visit, whether you are alone, with family or friends, on your own or with a guide. For half an hour or half a day, the Unterlinden Museum is yours to enjoy.
