My parents were visiting Beijing for the first time, and the Great Wall and the two national parks were must-sees. We were worried we wouldn't be able to fully explore them on our own, so we joined the tour. The weather was nice and sunny, but we needed to bring some autumn clothing. The elderly had very positive feedback, and the itinerary was well-paced. Liu Depeng, our guide for the two national parks, was especially lively and engaging. The elders commented that if history teachers were like him, no one would fall asleep. Overall, we were very satisfied. On the way back, we took the subway to Xidan and ate at Siji Minfu, where the lines were minimal.★

The day before the tour, I received an email. Originally, I applied for a tour at 8 am, but the off-season season, and the People's Congress, etc. overlapped with various situations, so I started with the tour at 10 am. Still, the guide came in advance and I was able to communicate with the guide. We decided to take a tour with our suitcase because of the flight time, and we decided to take a taxi first in the middle. On the day of the tour, he mixed Chinese and English and took good care of the whole staff, and he continued to care about us who had to leave first. If you wanna see the Great Wall without a lot of people, this is worth the distance to go far. It was a 2 1/2 hour drive. We had our five year-old son with us and we took the cable car to the Jinshanling Great Wall area after we got dropped off by the tour bus and got picked up by a private car to go to that area, which is about an hour away from Simatai, where most of the group was at. after we got drop off on the side of the road, we got picked up by a private car it was about 30-40 minute drive. There wasn’t much communication we had to use Google translator. He took us to a restaurant a little bit off the beaten path and said we should have lunch keep in mind you don’t have to.★

It was the peak season so there’s just too many people but overall we enjoyed our first time visiting Badaling Great Wall. Be careful climbing the steep steps of the wall; without people around is already a challenge but with that much people; well agility is a must too. Anyways our guide is very helpful too and we enjoyed the overall experience. Half day is enough since basically you are just climbing the same thing unless you love the challenge of walking 2 to 3 km of walk.
