We took the TranzAlpine as part of our journey to Queenstown - breathtaking views all the way! Unfortunately, we faced a surprising 2-hour delay, which was frustrating. If time allows, consider adding Pancake Rocks near Greymouth/Hokitika to your itinerary (though it's a bit far). Still, the landscapes made it worthwhile for train lovers!★

We really enjoyed our day trip during which we saw the beautiful mountains and got to walk among the huge rocks of Castle Hill. Sophie our guide was very thoughtful and efficient. We had a great lunch and snacks. We were well taken care of. We would have enjoyed a bit more commentary but it was well worth the time and cost.About
