Product details

Pescador Island, a small limestone jewel nestled in the Tañon Strait just off the coast of Moalboal, Cebu, Philippines, is a diver's paradise. Its name, meaning "fisherman" in Spanish, hints at the abundance of marine life teeming in its surrounding waters.

Here's what makes Pescador Island special:

  • Vibrant Underwater World: The island boasts a breathtaking underwater landscape. Imagine colorful coral walls, dramatic drop-offs, and an incredible variety of fish. You might encounter anything from tiny seahorses to giant groupers, and even the occasional sea turtle.

  • The Cathedral: This unique underwater cave, located on the west side of the island, is a must-see for divers. Light filters through an opening at the top, creating an ethereal, cathedral-like atmosphere.

  • Diving and Snorkeling: Whether you're a seasoned diver or a curious snorkeler, Pescador Island has something for everyone. The crystal-clear waters offer excellent visibility, allowing you to fully appreciate the underwater wonders.
  • Accessibility: Reaching Pescador Island is easy. It's a short boat ride from Moalboal, where you'll find numerous dive operators offering trips to the island.

If you're planning a visit, keep in mind:

  • Marine Sanctuary: Pescador Island is a protected marine sanctuary. Be sure to follow responsible diving and snorkeling practices to help preserve this fragile ecosystem.
  • No Beaches: The island itself is quite small and rocky, without any sandy beaches. The main attraction is definitely the underwater scenery.

Pescador Island offers an unforgettable experience for nature lovers and underwater enthusiasts. Its vibrant marine life and unique dive sites make it a true gem in the Philippines.

How to use
Snorkeling is a fun and easy way to explore the underwater world, but it's important to know how to use your gear properly to have a safe and enjoyable experience. Here's a step-by-step guide:

1. Mask and Snorkel

Mask Fitting: Place the mask on your face without the strap and inhale gently through your nose. The mask should seal completely and stay on your face. If it leaks or falls off, try a different size or style. Once you have a good fit, adjust the strap so it's snug but not too tight.

Snorkel Attachment: Attach the snorkel to your mask strap according to the manufacturer's instructions. The snorkel should be positioned on the left side of your mask, with the mouthpiece comfortably within reach of your mouth.

Defogging: Saliva works surprisingly well! Spit into your mask, rub it around, and rinse with a little water. If you have defogger, apply that according to the instructions.

2. Fins

Choosing the Right Size: Fins should fit snugly but not be too tight. You should be able to move your toes freely.

Putting on Fins: Put your fins on while sitting down or holding onto something for balance. If you have open-heel fins, make sure the straps are secure and adjusted properly.

3. Getting in the Water

Entering from Shore: Walk into the water until it's about waist-deep, then put your face in the water and start swimming.

Entering from a Boat: Use the ladder or steps to enter the water, then put your face in the water and start swimming.

4. Snorkeling Techniques

Breathing: Breathe slowly and deeply through the snorkel. If water gets into the snorkel, blow out forcefully to clear it.

Swimming: Use a gentle flutter kick to propel yourself through the water. Keep your body horizontal and your arms at your sides.

Clearing Your Ears: If you feel pressure in your ears, pinch your nose and blow gently.

Equalizing: As you descend, you'll need to equalize the pressure in your ears. To do this, pinch your nose and blow gently. You should feel a popping sensation.

5. Safety Tips

Buddy Up: Always snorkel with a buddy.

Stay Calm: If you get tired or feel anxious, float on your back and take deep breaths.

Be Aware of Your Surroundings: Watch out for boats, currents, and marine life.

Don't Touch Anything: Avoid touching coral, fish, or other marine life.

Use a Floatation Device: If you're not a strong swimmer, use a life vest or snorkeling vest.

Protect Yourself from the Sun: Wear sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses.

Important Note: If you're new to snorkeling, consider taking a lesson from a qualified instructor. They can teach you the basics and help you feel comfortable in the water.
