We signed up for a small tour group of nine, and the driver and guide picked us up at our hotel on time. Although the lavender in Furano's large garden had been cut, some new growth had already begun, making our trip worthwhile. 🤣 At Shikisai-no-Oka, time permitted, we even took a helicopter ride 🚁 to admire the rural scenery from above. It was a truly worthwhile trip. 😎

The guide spoke Chinese, Japanese, and English, and even though it seemed like only one of our English-speaking group was there, he patiently explained the itinerary, attractions, and food. Polar bears, penguins, and seals could be seen swimming through the glass pool—a truly first time seeing polar bears swimming. The chimpanzees were also more active than at other zoos. Unfortunately, the Blue Pond and Shirahige Falls attractions were too small, not as rich in natural beauty as a day trip to Lake Toya.


