Amazing! Our tour guide, Jay, was great! Fluent English, great explanation, very helpful when you have questions. One of the best tour guides I’ve had so far since arriving in China. The places we visited are also beautiful. But since we’re trying to squeeze everything into 1 day, obviously, you won’t have detailed history of each place. Jay did his best though IMO. The lunch was also good. Got to taste 北京烤鸭 (Beijing duck), Kungpao chicken, and plenty other dishes (can’t remember the name though).★

Helen's careful arrangement made us not have to work too hard to see the majestic Great Wall, very shocking. Lunch is delicious and not like a normal travel meal. Helen then took us to the Lama Temple, the Confucius Temple and the Guozijian, guiding us to a deeper understanding of Confucianism.

Gubei Water Town is a peaceful ancient town: restored courtyards, quiet canals, excellent local food, and relaxing hot springs. But the real highlight is the Simatai Great Wall towering dramatically above it all. Unlike the busier sections, Simatai retains its wild, unrestored charm—steep, rugged, and incredibly atmospheric. At night it’s spectacularly illuminated, stretching across the mountain ridges like a glowing dragon.
With Susie’s calm, knowledgeable guidance, the combination of the charming water town and the majestic Simatai section made this one of our favorite day trips from Beijing. Highly recommend both the destination and requesting Susie as your guide★

Highly recommended! The tour includes information about the wall, an entrance ticket, and roundtrip transportation from Dongzhimen Station. Please note! A guide will not accompany you to the wall (they are not necessary). You must purchase cable car/sled tickets separately, or you can buy them from the guide on the bus (they are the same price). There are two routes to choose from: the red route from the 14th to the 20th towers - the most beautiful views, an uphill climb, and a roundtrip indoor funicular ride (140 yuan); the green route from the 6th to the 1st towers - the views are also beautiful, but not as breathtaking, an open funicular ride, and a sled/funnel ride (140 yuan). You can also combine them! I personally chose to only take the red route on the closed funicular and walk from the 14th to the 19th tower (I didn't have enough strength to go any further), then the return route from the 19th to the 6th tower and a sled ride! It cost 200 yuan. The whole journey took me 3.5 hours. I want to express my deepest gratitude to the guide, Maxim; he explained everything in detail, gave advice, and answered the group's questions. Thank you for the trip and the great atmosphere!★

Everything is great, the city is pleasant, the wall is cool and very beautiful. I recommend taking a boat ride; it's a very scenic ride and you can also see the city in the evening. The only thing I recommend is to definitely take the CABLE CAR BOTH WAYS UP and DOWN; we didn't take the return trip. And in the end, we overpaid a lot. We could have gotten it for 180 yuan roundtrip, but our guide Lucy didn't warn us that there wouldn't be enough time to walk down, and besides, we were very tired. However, for another group, the guide explained everything in more detail about the descent. In the end, we paid 130 yuan for the ascent + 130 yuan for the descent (260 yuan for the whole trip). We overpaid by 80 yuan. If you go on your own, you'll pay even more; all tours with a guide are much cheaper. They only accept Alipay; they don't accept cards or cash.
