Shirakawa-go, surrounded by mountains on all sides and interlaced with rice fields, is known as a kingdom of forests and streams. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995 and is famous for its unique gassho-style houses. The village preserves more than 100 traditional buildings of various sizes, and its scenery is beautiful throughout the year—cherry blossoms in spring, lush greenery in summer, colorful foliage in autumn, and a snow-covered fairy-tale village in winter.

Located in northern Gifu Prefecture at the heart of the Hida region, the center of Takayama City preserves the complete form of castle towns and merchant streets from the Edo period, earning it the nickname “Little Kyoto of Hida.” Visitors can stroll through the historic “Sanmachi” district built during the Meiji and Taisho eras, enjoy local specialties such as Hida beef and Takayama ramen, and appreciate traditional crafts showcasing the exceptional skills of Hida artisans. Hida-Takayama is filled with charm at every turn.
