Shape a piece of Matera's 10,000-year history with your own hands.
In this 2.5-hour hands-on workshop, you will learn the traditional craft of carving tufa stone: the same soft, golden stone used to carve Matera's UNESCO heritage Sassi ancient town and build the city for centuries. Perfect even for beginners, this experience requires no previous skills, only curiosity.
Guided step by step by a local craftsman and sculptor, you will discover centuries-old carving techniques and create your own small sculpture from scratch. Feel the texture of the stone beneath your hands, hear the rhythmic tap of the mallet as you work, and watch a shape slowly emerge from a raw block.
The experience is designed for small groups of up to 6 participants, ensuring personal guidance and an intimate atmosphere throughout the workshop.
At the end of the experience, you will take home your handmade sculpture: a unique keepsake carrying the spirit of one of the world's oldest cities.
