Itinerary

If the Amalfi Coast is a string of pearls, then Capri is its jewelled pendant. This magnet for celebs since the days of Roman emperors is a must-visit. You'll take the ferry over, then head by minibus to Anacapri in the west of the island for some free time before making the trip to Capri town for a walking tour. Lucia, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘One of the things visitors love most about Capri is the contrast between Anacapri's peaceful hilltop setting and the buzz of Capri town. From the heights of Anacapri, you can enjoy some of the island's best views, while Capri town is perfect for soaking up the island's chic Mediterranean lifestyle.'

There's often a clutch of A-listers holidaying on this ruggedly beautiful island in the summer months. When you arrive and zigzag up to Anacapri to wander along cobbled alleys of whitewashed houses, you'll see why. Anacapri is located high in the hills, from where the views over the Bay of Naples are spectacular. As well as enjoying a fabulous location, Anacapri exudes a traditional Italian vibe, whereas Capri town is more cosmopolitan.

In the afternoon, you'll be able to compare it with glamorous Capri when you arrive for a walking tour among the jet-setters in the bars, cafés and label-laden boutiques. Lucia adds, ‘Among the best places to see in Capri town are the Gardens of Augustus, which overlook the famous Faraglioni rocks. It's one of the best viewpoints on the island, and the gardens are pretty special, too.'
