Reviews: Chengdu Departure: 1-day Tour to Anyue Stone Carvings (Filming Location of Black Myth: Wukong/Private Charter)

I made a last-minute decision to spend two days in Chengdu, having already visited the city many times. This time, I chose a place near Chengdu that I hadn't been to before: the Anyue Grottoes. This time, I was able to efficiently and deeply appreciate the beauty of these thousand-year-old stone carvings, thanks in large part to my experienced driver and guide, Li Linjun. His route planning was efficient and well-planned. The Anyue Grottoes are quite spread out, so driving or hiring a car is the most common option. Mr. Li knew this well; before we set off, he meticulously planned a route connecting the highlights, including Yuanjue Temple, Qianfozhai, Pilu Cave, and Mingshan Temple, based on my time and interests, avoiding traffic congestion and saving a lot of time. His explanations were insightful and full of warmth. He wasn't just a driver, but also a cultural guide. Along the way, he shared in-depth knowledge and life philosophies related to the origins, development, and transmission of Buddhism, its sectarian branches, and classic doctrines. He also mentioned that enthusiastic villagers spontaneously acted as guides, recounting the different names and expressions of Guanyin, bringing a vivid sense of story to the cold stone carvings. His service was attentive and meticulous. He would always inform us in advance of any trails or rural roads that required walking or were in poor condition. This meticulous care made the entire trip very worry-free and reassuring. In summary, Mr. Li is an excellent driver and guide—professional, enthusiastic, reliable, and knowledgeable. His approachable nature and service far surpass those of typical driver-guides. He transformed this trip to Anyue's historical sites from a simple transportation experience into a deep cultural tour. If you want to fully appreciate the charm of Anyue's stone carvings within a limited time, hiring a guide like him is well worth it.
