▲ Pamukkale is located 19 kilometers north of Denizli in Türkiye. In Turkish, "Pamuk" means cotton and "Kale" means castle, hence the name Pamukkale, or Cotton Castle. This renowned hot spring resort destination features not only millennia-old natural thermal springs but also peculiar cotton-like terraces, which are actually formations of solid travertine limestone. In 1988, Pamukkale and the ancient city of Hierapolis atop it were collectively designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
