On the day of the tour, numerous school groups were visiting simultaneously. The visit to the Jewish Quarter consisted solely of dense crowding. While this is obviously not the organizer's fault, it was very disruptive. There was an inexplicably long break of approximately 20 minutes between the first tour of the Jewish Quarter and the second tour of the mosque. The mosque guide provided a fantastic overview of the origins of this unique monument.★

When the Reconquista swept over Al-Andalus, the Mezquita was virtually the sole Islamic religious building that was substantially left standing, and it is still as evident today as it was then why. It’s a work of unparallelled mastery, mystery and complexity, most of which would have been lost on me if I had simply wandered in on my own. Instead I left feeling thoroughly enlightened thanks to the untiring efforts of Olivia. For that, most heartfelt compliments - from a very grateful little chicken.★
