An early start for this trip but well worth it to get to Pompei before it got really busy. Our Pompei guide Vivienne was excellent and knew her stuff. Pompei is massive so was good to have a guide explaining everything for the 2 hour tour. Had lunch then bus took us to Mount Vesiuvos. You had the choice to climb up or wait at the bottom. We climbed up and the views were amazing and not to hard a climb. We didn’t have a lot of time there but enough to get up and back down. A lot of walking on this full day tour but well worth it. Our bus guide Lulu was informative and funny too. Would definately recommend this tour.★

We experienced two successive last-minute changes of meeting point, each one further and further from our hotel. Our first driver, Max, arrived 10 minutes late and drove us through Naples to Pompeii. The driving was quite rough. The guide seemed more interested in the English speakers than the French speakers. Everything changed in Pompeii, with a new guide, Marie, who was fantastic! Then, for the trip to Mount Vesuvius, we had a new driver, Tonio, who was wonderful (friendly and cheerful), and a rather unremarkable guide. We had to rush up the mountain because the timing was far too tight to reach the summit and descend within the allotted time. It's a shame the clouds spoiled the view of the Bay of Naples, which should have been exceptional.★

Navigating Pompeii and Vesuvius are not straight-forward. Our driver Lucia was very professional, prompt and made sure all our transfers (including Vesuvius which is a very disorganized site!) when smoothly. She took care of ensuring our tickets were in hand, gave perfect instructions to navigate each site and was waiting in the perfect places as we came out.
Our guide for Pompeii was Anna and she was fantastic - got us through the lines and navigated well in front of or behind all the large tour groups with precision! She knew all of their moves and because there were not tons of tourists there, I got so many pictures with either no one or few people in the shots! Anna was also incredibly knowledgeable about the site and gave us great insights on the history and art that decorates the site - she came prepared too with a bag full of books with illustrations and drawings that helped hus understand what we were looking at. It was a very thoughtful (she even helped us find water to purchase before and after the tour!) and full agenda. No way we would have had the same experience in a large tour.
Pay the extra money for the private experience - it is well worth it!
