The Moli Tropical Rainforest Scenic Area is located in northeastern Ruili City. In the local Dai language, "Moli" means “beautiful waterfall.” The Moli Rainforest is famous for its rich natural landscape and being a Buddhist holy place. Near the hot spring pool, there is a gold-colored Dai-style pagoda, or stupa, that houses a meteorite. There is a giant "footprint" embedded at an incline in the ground at the rock wall, with the toes of the foot clearly visible. In Southeast Asian Buddhism, this is a very famous footprint of the Buddha. Not far from the towering pagoda stands the Big Buddha Temple. At each and every Buddhist festival, there is a constant flow of pilgrims coming here to pray for blessings.Ruili · 16.7 km from downtown

The Dai Ancient Town is located in Mangshi, Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It is built according to the national 4A-level scenic spot standards. Through in-depth excavation of Dai history and culture, with ancient Dai culture as the leader, architecture as the backbone, commerce as the spirit, and intangible cultural heritage as the skills, relying on the shape of the mountains and water, it has created a world ancient Dai cultural experience site that integrates cultural experience, leisure vacation, tourism services and ecological living. Jiegao Port

4.5/5
58 reviews
Jiegao Port is located on the east bank of the Ruili River, facing the Ruili city area across the river. It borders Muse, Myanmar, on the east, south, and north, serving as a busy land route for people and goods on the China-Myanmar border. "Jiegao" means "old city" in the Dai language and is said to have been the site of the ancient Mengmao city. Because it is surrounded by Myanmar on three sides and faces the river on one, it long functioned as an exclave. In the past, access relied entirely on ferries until the Jiegao Bridge was completed and opened to traffic in 1989, truly connecting the two sides. In 2005, a 600 m long, 4-lane bridge was opened, further easing traffic pressure. Jiegao Port implements a special inside the border, outside the customs management system: while located within the national border, the customs supervision line is set on the cross-river bridge, which gives this area a particularly strong atmosphere of border trade. The impressive national gate architecture and the straight, wide National Gate Avenue are the face of Jiegao. The nearby China-Myanmar Street is even more interesting. This street spans both countries; the Chinese side is called China-Myanmar Friendship Street, and the Myanmar side is called White Elephant Street, the boundary marker stands by the street, and standing in the middle of the street, you can see the streetscapes of two different countries on either side.Ruili · 5.4 km from downtown

Shubao Tower

4.6/5
105 reviews
Shubao Tower, originally named Tiecheng Pagoda and known as "Guangmu Jielie" in the Dai language, is named after the former Dai village of Jielie where it was built. It is one of the older Dai Buddhist pagodas in Mangshi. Legend has it that the local chieftain built this pagoda during the Qing Dynasty to commemorate a military victory. The pagoda is a solid brick structure standing 11.6 m tall, with an octagonal base supporting a conical, bead-shaped body. The finial's rings and vase point toward the sky, with smaller pagodas standing at each of the four corners. The stone carvings of the mythical "Gatuo" beasts on the base still retain the traditional charm of Dai Buddhist pagodas. What truly made it famous throughout western Yunnan is the spectacle formed by the pagoda and the tree intertwined for over a century: it is said that abodhi tree seedlanded in the dust on the pagoda's top, carried by bird droppings. It took root and sprouted, with the roots cascading down the pagoda walls. Over time, they completely enveloped the entire structure. Today, the dense canopy covers the top of the pagoda like an umbrella, and the gnarled roots coil down the body. From a distance, the pagoda appears hidden within the tree; up close, the tree seems to grow from the pagoda. The tree wraps around the pagoda, and the pagoda embraces the tree, interdependent and inseparable. The bodhi tree is considered a sacred tree in Dai Buddhist culture, and a tree growing atop a pagoda adds even more significance.Mangshi · 420m from downtown

The square also features a musical fountain. When the colorful lights turn on at night, the water feature and ethnic architecture complement each other. It is also the venue for many large-scale ethnic festivals and sports events in Mangshi, and it serves as the main site for the citywide water-splashing carnival during the Water-Splashing Festival.Mangshi · 1.3 km from downtown

The Peacock Valley is located by Fangma Bridge, Nantianmen, Mangshi in Dehong Prefecture, Yunnan Province. The first area consists of two outstanding features and five main sections; the first feature is the peacock. Peacocks are the symbol of Dehong, and the area's many peacock-themed elements have been submitted to the Guinness World Records for consideration. The second feature is eco-tourism in the virgin forest. The area is rich with a wide variety of different types of vegetation, and the different varieties of tree include peacock trees, welcoming trees, wishing trees, longevity trees and more. The Meng Huan Golden Pagoda is a must-see attraction in Mangshi. Its golden splendor can be seen from various parts of the city. Climbing the long steps, the pagoda's unique South Asian Dai royal palace style is visually stunning, and the view of it framed alongside the silver pagoda is unique. Inside, the Buddha statues are exquisite, and the Buddhist atmosphere is profound.

You can't go inside the Silver Pagoda, only look at it. It's a bit of a walk up from the ground. If you're not physically fit, I recommend taking the shuttle bus. It costs an extra 10 yuan for a round trip. The view from the top of the mountain is quite expansive, but it gets very crowded during holidays. Even taking photos on the glass walkway that's popular for online photos requires queuing.

Ruili is a village belonging to two countries, a well supplying water to two nations, and a river flowing between two countries in autumn. A border line separates two countries, but it cannot sever the shared human connection. Gazing at the Burmese village across the fence, one can experience the unique borderland charm without leaving the country.

It's alright. There's a waterfall at the top, the air humidity is quite high, and there are many tropical plants. Some of the trees are very tall, but it's not exactly unique or fun.

It was free to enter. I walked. The Jiegao Bridge is very long, and Jiegao is right on the other side of the river, which is quite interesting because most national borders are defined by rivers, but Jiegao is like an exclave. The border gate also has a distinctive ethnic style. Climbing to the rooftop next to it, you can see the buildings on the other side, which are all quite similar.

On January 7, 2026, I finally visited this tree-encased pagoda attraction that I'd been wanting to see for so long. Admission is free. The area is quite small, and new residential buildings, all 20 stories high, are under construction nearby. I imagine they'll affect the view when they're finished. The tree is enormous; it's a Bodhi tree, and the pagoda is nestled within its trunk. The tree and pagoda are tightly integrated, completely merging into one—a truly rare spectacle. Five to ten minutes is enough for a visit and some photos.

The architectural style of Mangshi Square is unique, integrating the traditional cultural elements of the Dai and Jingpo ethnic groups. The roofs of the buildings in the square are all glowing with golden light, and the entire square presents an exotic Burmese style. These buildings are not only beautiful and generous, but also carry rich historical and cultural connotations. A good place for citizens to relax and have fun. Citizens will do morning exercises here early in the morning, and it will be more lively in the evening. Citizens will play chess and cards, dance square dances, etc. here, enjoying a leisurely time. Unlike the square dances that everyone knows in the mainland, there is no annoying noise here, but dancing to the beautiful folk music. It is not only a kind of appreciation, but you will definitely have the desire to join if you are there. There are flame trees planted around the square, and the flame flowers in autumn are really beautiful; there are also coffee shops and restaurants; there are all kinds of local delicacies in the residential area not far away, and you can eat happily in the morning or in the evening.

It's huge, covering an entire mountain. There are shuttle buses to and from the mountain. The jungle adventure is also good, with a particularly long walkway. The package ticket includes a slide down the mountain, which is quite nice. You can get up close to the peacocks in the peacock garden, and you can buy feathers at the small shops nearby. They're cheaper than other places! 👍🏻 Apparently, there are over 10,000 peacocks inside. I saw enough on my first day; afterwards, I got tired of seeing peacocks at other attractions. 😂 It's definitely worth it. Getting a taxi is also quite convenient.
