Nanjing Hongshan Forest Zoo

25k reviews
Nanjing Hongshan Forest Zoo is located in the north of Nanjing, built along three hills: Dahongshan, Fangniushan, and Xiaohongshan. With a green coverage rate of over 85%, the rolling hills form a unique forest view. The zoo brings together rare wild animals from around the world and adopts an immersive multi-species mixed-housing model, allowing animals to naturally express their instincts in environments that simulate their native habitats. The nearly 30 venues in the park are divided into three major zones by hill. The Dàhóngshān zone is mainly home to fierce beasts and native species, including the Tiger Area, Bear Area, Chinese Felid House, Felid Planet, Wolf Area, Native Species Conservation Area, Meerkat House, Monkey Hill, and Giraffe House; the Fàngniúshān zone brings together the Koala House, Gaoligong Exhibition Area, Gondwana Exhibition Area, Asian Primate Area, Orangutan House, and Hippo House; the Xiǎohóngshān zone is mainly composed of bird exhibition areas, including the Tropical Bird House, Hornbill Garden, Muntjac and Reeve's Muntjac Slope, Parrot House, Pheasant Garden, and Rare Bird Garden. Among them, the Gondwana Exhibition Area is themed on the ancient continent of Gondwana, presenting the ecological landscape of species from the Southern Hemisphere; the Gaoligong Exhibition Area focuses on the biodiversity of Gaoligong Mountain in Yunnan; and the Native Species Conservation Area is dedicated to the conservation and wild release of China's native wildlife, making it one of the park's signature exhibition areas. Both the Koala House and the Giant Panda House are popular venues in the park. Nanjing Hongshan Forest Zoo was among the first domestic zoos to cancel animal performances and stop visitor feeding activities. With the core philosophy of "everything for the animals," it focuses on ecological renovation of venues and improvement of animal welfare. The park also undertakes the rescue and rehabilitation of wildlife in the Jiangsu region, rescuing a large number of injured and stray wild animals every year.Nanjing · 51.3 km from Chuzhou

West Lake

West Lake Scenic Area is the core of Hangzhou's landscape, surrounded by mountains on three sides and the city on the other. The Su Causeway and Bai Causeway stretch across the lake, dividing it into several smaller sections. The most exquisite sights around the lake are undoubtedly the "Ten Scenes of West Lake" passed down from the Southern Song Dynasty. Including the later "New Ten Scenes of West Lake" and the "Three Appraisals of the Ten Scenes of West Lake," hundreds of scenic spots unfold along the lakeshore and mountains. Pavilions, temples, pagodas, gardens, islands, and distant mountains and nearby waters complement each other. The legend of the Broken Bridge, where the White Snake and Xu Xian met, adds a touch of history to the lake and mountains. There's no need to insist on visiting every single spot; simply strolling along a stretch of the lakeshore is enough to bring you bliss. You can explore West Lake by walking, cycling, taking a sightseeing electric cart around the lake, or by boat. The electric cart route circles the entire lake, saving you energy and making it convenient. cycling along the lake is leisurely and romantic, and there are many public bicycle rental points along the shore. If you want to take a boat, there are several docks along the lake offering different types of boats and routes. It is highly recommended to take a boat to Three Pools Mirroring the Moon in the center of the lake and enjoy the lake views from the boat. Alternatively, you can hire a rowboat on the lake shore and have a boatman row you around the lake, which is more free and flexible. The attractions on the north bank are concentrated. A typical starting point is the Broken Bridge in the northeast corner, walking along the Bai Causeway to Gushan Island. Along the way, you can see cultural landmarks such as the Xiling Seal Society, Zhejiang Provincial Museum, China Seal Art Museum, and the Fanghe Pavilion in Zhongshan Park. Enjoy a bowl of authentic West Lake Vinegar Fish at Lou Wai Lou restaurant, then cross the Xiling Bridge to Yue Fei Temple and Quyuan Fenghe. In the summer, when the sun is strong, consider taking the North Mountain Road instead, finding shade under the dense trees to admire the curves of the Broken Bridge and the swaying willows on the Bai Causeway. There are many entrances along the way to Baoshi Mountain for panoramic views. The "Most Memorable is Hangzhou" live performance on Yue Lake in the evening is also worth seeing. If you have enough time and energy, you can also walk along the Su Causeway from the Yue Fei Temple area for a complete walk and a panoramic view of West Lake. The area along the southeastern shore, from Hubin Road to Nanshan Road, is another densely populated area of attractions. Hubin Road is located at the junction of the city center and the attraction area, adjacent to the city's commercial district, making it suitable for tourists with limited time to stop briefly. The lakeside also features a landmark musical fountain and a cruise dock. Walking south along Nanshan Road from Hubin Road, you'll find attractions like Liulang Wenying (Listening to Orioles Singing in the Willows), the Long Bridge, Leifeng Pagoda, and Nanping Evening Bell, all lined up along the way. Further west is Huagang Guanyu (Viewing Fish at Flower Harbor). It's convenient to walk or take a tour bus between these adjacent attractions, allowing you to choose which ones to visit based on your preferences. Leifeng Pagoda and Nanping Evening Bell are best visited in the evening; listening to the bell at Jingci Temple and climbing Leifeng Pagoda to overlook the lake and mountains at dusk are both excellent experiences.China · Hangzhou

Niushou Mountain Cultural Tourism Zone, also known asNiushou Mountain Cultural Tourism Zone, it is named for its two peaks, one in the east and one in the west, which resemble the two horns of an ox's head. Niushou Mountain Cultural Tourism Zone boasts beautiful scenery and has long enjoyed the reputation of "Spring Niushou." In ancient times, it featured such Jinling scenic spots as Niushou Smoke and Mist and Zutang Temple's Resounding Tin Staff, and it also preserves many historical sites, such as the Jiangning section of the ancient fortifications where Yue Fei fought against the Jin, and the Zheng He Cultural Park. Usnisa Palace The Usnisa Palace is themed around the enshrinement of the Buddha's parietal bone relic and is divided into two parts: the large dome and the small dome, symbolizing outer offerings and inner offerings. The Usnisa Palace utilizes the original mine pit to build an underground palace, with six levels below ground and three levels above ground, appearing very solemn and magnificent. The parietal bone relic of Shakyamuni Buddha was enshrined at the Niushou Mountain Cultural Tourism Zone in October 2015. Visitors may go to the Usnisa Palace to pay homage on special Buddhist festivals. For specific times to view the relic, please call the attraction for inquiries. A thousand years of history Niushou Mountain Cultural Tourism Zone is a Buddhist sacred site. The Buddha Cave Temple, built by Sikong Xu Du in the second year of the Tianjian era of the Liang Dynasty (503 AD), was the first temple on Niushou Mountain, and Li Yu, the last ruler of the Southern Tang, renamed it Hongjue Temple. During the Tang Dynasty, Chan Master Farong, hailed as the "Bodhidharma of East China," founded the Niutou Chan School on Niushou Mountain, known in ancient times as "Jiangbiao Niutou." The founding of the Niutou Chan School served as an important bridge in the true transformation of Indian Chan into Chinese Chan! Niushou Mountain Cultural Tourism Zone - Taohua Stream Niushou Mountain Cultural Tourism Zone - Taohua Stream is located at the east entrance of Niushou Mountain Cultural Tourism Zone, with a total area of 14.87 hectares, approximately 220 mu. The peach blossoms selected are 26 varieties suitable for growing in the Nanjing area, making it a new view created by the Niushou Mountain attraction. A small stream winds down from Yinlong Lake, its water babbling, with peach trees planted on both sides. In spring, the buds gradually bloom, and a sea of flowers is intoxicating.Nanjing · 59.7 km from Chuzhou

It is okay to climb up and have a look. Langya Pavilion is a modern reconstruction, and the base of the stone pagoda in front of Bixia Palace is a cultural relic from the Northern Song Dynasty.

It is across the street from Taiping Ancient Town and Wu Jingzi's Former Residence! Not many people there, and it's free, so it's suitable for a quiet stroll without any expectations. On the contrary, I feel very happy. The Taiping Ancient Town opposite is really just for a stroll, it's too desolate.

Check-in was quick, and they assigned me a quiet room on the side as requested. The room had a window with a side-opening screen, which was a thoughtful touch. The room was cleaned daily, and supplies were replenished as needed. The breakfast was particularly noteworthy; it was delicious and offered a wide variety of options, including Western and Chinese dishes, as well as freshly made food. A great feature was that you could customize the seasoning to your liking.

Langya Temple is not only a pilgrimage site for Buddhists, but also a good place for tourists to explore history and culture. There are many cultural relics and natural attractions in the temple, such as Mingyue Pool, Zhuoying Spring, Guiyun Cave, Xuehong Cave, etc. These attractions not only show the historical and cultural heritage of Langya Temple, but also provide tourists with a rich tour experience.

My second visit to West Lake was great; the boat tour was excellent. The dock was easy to find, the staff were very friendly, provided clear explanations, and helped with any issues. There were also sightseeing buses, which were nice but a bit pricey. Taking the boat tour and then walking around was both perfectly fine.

Zunyang Street in Chuzhou City, despite having many old houses and historical anecdotes, lacks shops and popularity. Local cultural and tourism authorities could invest more in developing it, if conditions permit. This way, tourists visiting Langya Mountain Scenic Area could easily stroll, eat, and relax here, as it's on the same route as Langya Mountain and close to Chuzhou North Railway Station, making it convenient.

I took a taxi and got off at the West Gate of the scenic area. There's a free shuttle bus from the parking lot to the scenic area bus station. You can buy a round-trip ticket for 20 yuan. The shuttle bus takes you to Tianque Station halfway up the mountain. From there, you can take an escalator directly to the Buddha Palace at the top of the mountain. It's a painless climb, a blessing for the elderly and lazy people. The reclining Buddha in the Buddha Palace and the stupa in the underground palace are must-see attractions. There are souvenir shops and vegetarian restaurants in the scenic area, offering a one-stop service for eating and shopping.

This place is quite pristine, and there are many views on the road. There are few people here, and there are not many cars on the road. Instead of going to other places to see crowds during the National Day, it is better to go to these places to be quiet. The facilities inside are OK, there are barbecue areas, and there are many facilities for children to play in the amusement area, and there is grass sliding, which is 10 or 20 yuan for free, and the price is very affordable. For me personally, I like this pristine ecological environment very much. There is a small zoo inside. You can bring some vegetables and fruits to feed these animals. The mountain is not high, one side is a step up, and the other side is a road with a gentle slope. If there are elderly people and children, you can go to the gentle side. This is a natural oxygen bar. I saw that there are free-range monkeys before, but I didn't meet them, and the spare apples were in vain. Maybe there are many famous scenic spots in Anhui, so few people come here.
