Connected to Hua Hin, Cha Am is a seaside resort on the east coast of Thailand, with its wide, uninterrupted bay forming a graceful arc. The beach here is wide and sandy, and the calm blue waters look very clean. The secluded and leisure beach is compared to Hua Hin. Cha Am is quieter and less tourists. Usually, families or students from Bangkok come here for vacation and parties on weekends and holidays. If you start from Bangkok, you can reach Cha-am in about two or three hours by car; it is more convenient to travel from Hua Hin, which only takes half an hour by car. You may wish to spend half a day or a day here for a leisurely holiday. Cozy vacation time Under the blue sky, the clean and fine white sand of the sunny beach is soft and charming, and often only a few people in swimsuits stroll on it. You can find a beach bench to soak up the sun, buy a drink to clear your mind, sit under a sugar palm tree and enjoy seafood, or experience simple entertainment such as a banana boat, all at relatively affordable prices. Abundant seafood delicacies Every February, Cha Am celebrates the harvest of the local seafood delicacy blue crab, when food stalls, concerts and even neon parties gather along the waterfront. In September, there is a festival of "eating shellfish, watching seabirds, and catching squid". Surrounding Activities In addition to the quiet beaches, there are a series of interesting attractions around Cha Am that are worth visiting together. There is a Palace of Love and Hope near Hua Hin Beach. You can reminisce the touching story of King Rama VI in this fresh and graceful royal palace, enjoy photos and cultural relics of the Thai royal family, and the sea view is also superb. Santorini Park is an emerging theme park in Cha-am, located on the essential traffic road between Bangkok and Hua Hin. It is characterized by a strong Mediterranean style, and as soon as you enter the park, you will see a super-style blue and white Greek town. There are not only romantic amusement facilities in the park, but also many small and fresh shops. There is a Swiss Sheep Ranch a few minutes' drive from Santorini Park, which is also a good place to take pictures. In addition to sheep, there are also cute animals such as ponies and alpacas, which are very suitable for children who are still young. friend.Cha-am · 2 km from downtown

Chao Phraya River

4.5/5
5.4k reviews
The Chao Phraya River is the customary name used by the Chinese community for the river known in Thai as "Chao Phraya." The term "Chao Phraya" originates from Thai, literally meaning "mother of waters," while its Thai name is often translated as "river of kings," both reflecting the river's significance in Thailand. It originates in the northern mountains of Thailand, flows south through the central plains, passes the ancient capital of Ayutthaya, and runs through the heart of Bangkok before emptying into the Gulf of Thailand. Including its upstream tributaries, it stretches over 1,000 km. Bangkok grew alongside this river, once crisscrossed by waterways and dubbed the "Venice of the East." Even today, the Chao Phraya River remains a vital waterway for local transportation and daily life. Taking a cruise is a classic way to explore the river. By day, the water bustles with public ferries, cargo boats, and crossings, resembling a watery highway for Bangkok residents, while traditional floating markets have mostly relocated to tributaries. Along the river, historic landmarks like the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and Wat Arun glide past, juxtaposed with modern malls like ICONSIAM across the water. A short ferry ride from Tha Tian Pier leads to Wat Arun on the opposite bank. At night, the river transforms as lights illuminate both shores, with Wat Arun's porcelain-clad spires shimmering softly. Sightseeing and dinner cruises set sail, offering a distinctly different atmosphere from the land-based experience. If timing allows, an evening cruise lets you witness both the sunset and the city lights, capturing two faces of the river in one trip. △Sparkling Chao Phraya River △Enchanting night view at Chao Phraya RiverThailand · Bangkok

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, located southwest of Bangkok, is a rare example of a market that still retains the traditional Thai floating market atmosphere. With over a century of history, it has been a filming location for many movies, most notably one of the James Bond films. Local residents still live in stilt houses built along the waterways of Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. Most vendors are husband-and-wife teams, conducting their trade year-round on the river. Boats carrying vegetables, fruits, and small goods weave through the narrow waterways of the canals, lined with lush tropical trees. On board, local women, wearing distinctive straw hats, loudly hawk their wares. During peak season, these small merchant boats and passenger boats create traffic jams on the canals, forming a lively scene. Most visitors to Damnoen Saduak Floating Market choose to tour the market by boat, experiencing the fun of shopping from above. Of course, strolling through the covered walkways on the banks offers another unique experience, with vendors selling fruit there as well. If you see food that you like from the vendors on the boat, you can ask them to come ashore.Damnoen Saduak · 80.1 km from Cha-am

Hua Hin Railway Station was built in 1911 during the reign of Rama VI. It is one of Thailand's oldest train stations. One of Thailand's iconic railway stations, with distinctive tropical flair, construction of the station led to the development of Hua Hin. It allowed visitors to travel from Bangkok by train instead of by boat, and even brought visitors from as far south as Singapore. Because of its historical status and significance, it has since become an important, nostalgic point of interest. Stepping into this red and white train station, with its peaked roofs, visitors can be transported to the past. Its architectural style is distinctive and, despite its age, remains fresh. The whole structure is made of teak wood. The red lacquered roof beams and ceiling, combined with the yellow walls, exudes a strong Thai style. This has become a place where many young people come to take pictures and enjoy the nearby café and bookstore.Hua Hin · 25.8 km from Cha-am

Wat Huay Mongkol is a renowned place of worship, famous for housing the statue of Luang Pu Thuat, a monk deeply revered and loved by devotees across Thailand. He passed away on March 6, 1682, at the age of 99. Visitors here can pray for the safety of themselves and their loved ones. Legend of the monk Legend has it that he was born in 1582, and after his birth, a giant python left seven-colored gems behind. Later, after becoming a monk, he was on a boat that encountered a severe storm. He placed his feet into the sea, causing the water to glow and become drinkable, thereby saving everyone on board. He eventually became one of the most famous monks in Thailand and is worshipped as a Buddha in the hearts of the people. Pray for good luck under the statue In addition to this massive statue, the temple grounds feature many smaller Thai-style statues and monuments. Visitors here follow Thai traditions, such as applying gold leaf to the statues or walking under the wooden elephant 3 times to pray for good luck.Hua Hin · 31.5 km from Cha-am

A fantastic tour! Enjoy a buffet on the deck, feel the river breeze, admire the scenery on both banks, and listen to a live band. The views along both sides of the Chao Phraya River are unobstructed. I recommend taking a boat at night for an even more beautiful night view!

Cruise Through Culture: A Must-Visit at Damnoen Saduak Floating Market! If you're in Thailand, don’t miss the magical experience of Damnoen Saduak Floating Market! This vibrant market, set on winding canals, is like stepping into a living postcard. I booked my visit through Trip.com, and everything — from hotel pickup to boat ride — was seamless and hassle-free.Gliding through the waterways, I was surrounded by friendly vendors in wooden boats, selling exotic fruits, delicious Thai snacks, handmade crafts, and more. The aroma of sizzling food and the sight of colorful produce were unforgettable. I tried the mango sticky rice and fresh coconut ice cream — both were incredible! The early morning vibe, reflections on the water, and rich cultural feel make this a photographer’s dream. Damnoen Saduak is more than a market — it’s a slice of Thai heritage that you can see, taste, and feel.#TripWithTripdotcom #ThailandVibes #FloatingMarketAdventure

Before setting off, I confidently told my friends that I definitely wouldn't get lost on this road trip. However, after driving less than 30 kilometers, I led the navigation into a field ridge. My wheels nearly sank into the soft mud beside the field. I got out and struggled to push for ten minutes, my hands and face covered in mud. Looking up, I saw an old man in the field, smoking a cigarette, staring at me for a while before slowly saying, "Young man, you've taken a way that's more off-center than my cow's." I was utterly dumbfounded. I could only force a smile and chat with the old man. Then, the old man pointed to a small path hidden behind a tree, saying, "If you keep going this way, there's a place with local food so delicious it'll make your tongue tingle." I drove there with some skepticism, and it opened up a whole new world for me. The roadside restaurant didn't even have a sign, and the food... It was so spicy it felt like my head was going to fly off. I ate three bowls of rice and still couldn't stop. I continued wandering along this deserted path, the wheels crunching over fallen leaves. Wildflowers bloomed haphazardly by the roadside, and even butterflies were circling around my car. I played the most corny DJ music and drifted along the empty highway, feeling like the coolest kid on the block. Getting lost? The navigation hadn't planned this route. That was what I called a unique surprise! I didn't start heading back until it got dark. Looking at the mud stains on my car, I took out my phone and texted a friend, saying I'd gotten lost and stumbled upon a hidden dungeon. My friend replied with three question marks, saying, "This isn't a road trip, it's a wilderness survival experience!" I laughed so hard I slapped the steering wheel. This experience was a hundred times better than staying home and watching short videos 🤣. Driving my car through the mountains and rivers felt like being in a giant natural oxygen bar. Every deep breath I took allowed me to feel the essence of the Yangtze River civilization and nature's bounty. The joy of driving lies in the perfect combination of a sense of control and a thirst for exploration. The unknown road ahead is always full of allure, making one want to explore it. The villages, fields, and mountains along the way all tell the stories of this land, and as a passerby, I was fortunate enough to be a witness to these stories. This experience of intertwining with history and nature enriched my heart immensely, as if all my worries had been blown away by the river breeze, leaving only a love and longing for life. As the wheels of the train ceaselessly rolled on, I found my own rhythm. That unhurried attitude filled me with boundless anticipation and longing for the future. Spending the night in the small town, listening to the distant sounds of Sichuan opera, my heart was filled with indescribable emotion and satisfaction 🌞💚.
