Salamanca Pl is located on the waterfront of Hobart, the capital of Tasmania, backed by a gentle slope and facing the River Derwent. The row of three- to four-story sandstone warehouses along the street, built in the 1830s and 1840s, used stone mostly quarried from behind the square. They once served the port's whaling and shipping trade, but today they have mostly been converted into galleries, craft shops, cafes, and bars, making them one of the best-preserved colonial-era building complexes in Australia. The square is named after the 1812 Battle of Salamanca, a connection that adds a touch of history to the district. Every Saturday, it transforms into a lively open-air market: hundreds of stalls line the street, with handicrafts like glassware, woodwork, pottery, leather goods, and original clothing intertwined with flowers, produce, books, and street performances, resembling a city-wide fair that both locals and tourists love to visit. If you want to hunt for niche handicrafts or soak up the local atmosphere, consider setting aside a Saturday in your itinerary for this place. Arrive early in the morning for a more relaxed stroll and a better chance to chat with the stall owners. Visiting on weekdays is much quieter, perfect for browsing galleries at a leisurely pace or sitting in a cafe to watch the street scene. Looking north from the square, you can also see the silhouette of Mount Wellington in the distance. Climb the Kelly Steps on the west side, and within a few minutes, you can enter the old streets and alleys of Battery Point, connecting the colonial-era streetscapes of this area into a walking route.Hobart · 10.3 km from Berriedale

It is a place where you can have close contact with kangaroos, Tasmanian Devils, wombat and other birds, etc. if you’re looking for a sanctuary to see the special wildlife of Tasmania, this is definitely a choice. The specialist will share with you the characteristics of wombats and Tasmania devils in those guided tours. Instead of visiting specific sanctuary, I think this Sanctuary is value for money if you have limited time. This is highly recommended for families and those interested in feeding kangaroos.

🏔️ Mount Wellington: Hobart’s Majestic LookoutMount Wellington, known locally as kunanyi, towers above Hobart and offers one of Tasmania’s most breathtaking viewpoints. Rising to 1,271 meters, it provides sweeping panoramic views of the city, the Derwent River, and the surrounding wilderness. The changing weather adds drama, with mist, snow, or sunshine often appearing within hours. Well-marked trails, rugged rock formations, and native wildlife make it ideal for hiking and nature exploration. Easily accessible by road or trail, Mount Wellington is a must-visit for anyone wanting to experience Tasmania’s raw beauty and ever-changing alpine atmosphere.

The Contemporary Art Island is worth a day trip. It was founded by a famous Australian tycoon. It takes 30 minutes to reach the Art Island by taking a dedicated ferry from the main island of Hobart. In addition to appreciating art works, there are also tennis courts, cots, and a variety of rich dining and entertainment.

Traveling to Australia, this stop came to Hobart, the capital of Tasmania. Visited Cascade Brewery, which is the oldest brewery in Australia. It was built in 1824 and rebuilt in 1927. This is because a fire broke out in the south that year, and the fire affected the brewery. Later, it was rebuilt, so there are two years marked on the main entrance of the castle-style brewery. The current Cascade Brewery offers various flavors of beer, fruit drinks, and dark beer brewed with specially selected wheat. There is a tour of the brewery here, but it is not available on weekends. When I came that day, it was Sunday, so I could only taste the craft beer at my own expense. I am not a drinker, so I only bought a cup of the smallest cider to try, which costs about RMB 20. It is not big, and it is brewed with local apple juice from Tasmania. It is mellow and delicious. If it is hot, drinking a glass of iced beer can be said to be a great thing. The restaurant is quite large. On one side is a counter selling various craft beers. You can also order meals or desserts. I heard that there are desserts made with beer, but I didn't buy any food. On the other side is hot drinks. Pushing the side door of the restaurant out is an ancient garden. The garden coexists with the brewery, so it is also a garden with a long history. There are many plants planted in it. It can be said to be a mini botanical garden. There are many outdoor seats. Australians like to enjoy the sun outdoors, especially on weekends or after work in the afternoon. There will be many locals who come here to chat in groups of three or two. This is the slow life in Australia.

It is open to the public free of charge. There is a different plant every three parts, and there are many types! Each plant has a logo and introduction. The park is well managed, and there are snacks and ice cream for sale, as well as small souvenirs.
