Holy Trinity Cathedral of Tbilisi

Holy Trinity Cathedral of Tbilisi stands on Elia Hill on the left bank of the Mtkvari River and is the main cathedral of the Georgian Orthodox Church. The church adopts the traditional Georgian cross-dome architectural style, with the central dome covered in gold leaf and a gilded cross standing at the top, reaching a total height of nearly 100 m including the underground section. Thanks to its massive size and commanding position, its golden dome can be seen from almost anywhere in the city of Tbilisi. The interior of the church is also worth a close look. In the northeast corner, there is a mosaic icon of the Virgin Mary; the southeast corner houses a display case with a cross and a handwritten Bible; and the northwest corner displays a model of the holy city of Jerusalem made of mica. The church also has several chapels underground, and the main murals were painted by contemporary Georgian artists in a traditional style. In addition to the main cathedral, the entire complex includes auxiliary facilities such as a separate bell tower, a monastery, and a seminary, which are quite impressive in scale. As the mother church of the Georgian Orthodox Church, the cathedral hosts Orthodox rituals and religious activities all year round. The interior murals and mosaic decorations create a solemn religious atmosphere, and from the cathedral's platform, you can overlook the city of Tbilisi and the scenery on both banks of the Kura River.

Sighnaghi is a beautiful, mysterious and legendary tourist town in the east. It is also known as the Royal Town. It was the seat of the Georgian royal family in the second century BC. Because there is a marriage registration agency that works 24 hours a day (but in fact, the marriage registration agency is not open 24 hours a day), Sighnaghi is also called the City of Love by the locals. The town has preserved most of the city walls and 23 towers from the 18th century.

As the most important monastery of the Orthodox Church in Georgia, the tomb of St. Nino is in the monastery. St. Nino was the first person to spread the Orthodox Church to Georgia, so this monastery is of great significance!

The ancient city walls of Sighnaghi are the symbol of this "town of love," built around a mountain ridge that embraces the entire town. · Construction Period: Late 18th century (circa 1772) · Builder: King Erekler II of Georgia · Core Purpose: As a defensive fortification to protect the area from invasion · Original Size: Approximately 4-4.5 kilometers in length, with 23 towers and several gates · Preservation Status: Parts of the walls are well-preserved; they have been restored in recent years. · Defensive Features: Located on a mountaintop, the walls offer stunning views overlooking the Alazani Valley. · Visual Style: Encircling the town, they create a picturesque landscape together with the red-roofed stone houses.

The most striking feature of the church is undoubtedly its pure gold-clad dome, dazzling in the sunlight and exuding a gentle solemnity when illuminated at night. It's worth noting that the church's construction was primarily funded by donations from ordinary citizens—it's not just a building, but a symbol of Georgians rediscovering their faith and solidifying their national identity after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Georgia has a chronicle monument, which was built during the Soviet era and witnessed the disintegration of the Soviet Union. Many locals go to the Tbilisi Sea for vacation, swimming, and sunbathing. From the monument, you can see the Tbilisi Sea from a distance. It takes 12 minutes to walk from the monument to the beach.

From a secret military bunker to a unique wine cellar! A stunning place 👍 Overall impression: The Khareba Wine Tunnel is one of the most striking and technologically advanced locations in Kakheti. The site is astonishing in its scale: it's a colossal bunker, carved directly into the cliff face of the Caucasus Mountains in the late 1950s for civil defense purposes. It was later purchased by winemakers, as it maintains the ideal temperature for wine aging year-round—around 14°C. Today, it's almost 8 kilometers long! Only a small section of the tunnel is open to tourists. What awaits you inside: We took a tour and found ourselves surrounded by endless rows of oak barrels and clay qvevris where the famous Georgian wine matures. The atmosphere is indescribable—a local ensemble performs at the entrance to the tunnel. Live music and Georgian polyphony echoed through the corridors—it was absolutely spine-tingling! After the tour, we enjoyed a tasting of three wines with light snacks. Keep in mind: after a long journey, heat, and lack of sleep, even three glasses can leave you pleasantly, but noticeably, tipsy! 🥂🥴 After the cool of the tunnel, we took the elevator to the very top of the cliff, where there's a restaurant and observation deck with a breathtaking view of the Alazani Valley. Helpful tips for tourists: Clothing: Outside, the temperature can reach over 30°C, while inside, it's a steady 14°C. If you didn't bring a jacket, don't worry: warm blankets are provided at the entrance. Tickets: Various packages are available. If you want to try the legendary Saperavi from a qvevri, choose the tasting with traditional Georgian wines. There are also tickets for master classes on shoti bread baking and churchkhela making. Shopping: Prices at the brand store near the tunnel are lower than in Tbilisi supermarkets, and the selection of rare, collectible Khareba wines is much wider. A great gift option! Verdict: 5 out of 5. Amazing service, unique location, and a sea of emotions. A must-see!

On the way to Kazbekistan, almost everyone stops here. After crossing the bridge, Ananuri Fortress stands beside the reservoir at the bridgehead, looking from afar like a stone castle stranded in the middle of a lake. I stopped the car and took some photos from the bridge. As soon as I pressed the shutter, it suddenly dawned on me—wasn't this the same angle as on the cover of *Lonely Planet*? The same bridge railings, the same gray-white stone walls, the same blue-green water. So the "cover-style shot" mentioned in the travel guides was just an ordinary roadside spot, not at all pretentious. The reservoir behind the fortress is called Renvali Reservoir, surrounded by concentric circles of mountains, its water a medium-deep green. Standing atop the fortress, the view is indeed the best—the reservoir, the bridge, the mountains, and the winding mountain road in the distance, all spread out below. But getting up there wasn't so easy. The left entrance was blocked off. A local offered a small tip to enter from the right; the fee wasn't much, more like a "gateway fee" for this centuries-old fortress—payable by soldiers six hundred years ago, and by tourists six hundred years later. The internal staircase was narrow and the steps slippery. Every step was taken with extreme caution. My friend slipped while going down, so safety first. This view is best seen in photos :D
