Delicious Hungarian food, worth checking in~~~
Without a doubt, food is my favorite topic. Usually, when I travel to a new country, I first look to see what local cuisine I should try and, most importantly, where in the city I can find great restaurants to savor. As a future visitor to Budapest, I hope to help you find the best traditional Hungarian restaurants and which dishes are worth trying. Enjoy! Getto Gulyás This Jewish Quarter gem, about 50 meters from the synagogue, is very Hungarian and excellent. The minimalist design transports you back to the turn of the century. Among the many authentic Hungarian restaurants in Budapest, it's one of the more modern and stylish. The authentic Hungarian flair is complemented by the food! The menu offers all the classics, like Hungarian goulash or the particularly popular Hortobágy meat pie. Tip: When you hear about chicken paprika, don't forget that paprika can be paired with anything, whether it's mushrooms, beef, or pork. This is a very popular spot for locals and tourists, so reservations are recommended, especially on weekends and during dinner time. Bem Söröző This is a true hidden gem in the area. Located on the Buda side of the city, near Margaret Bridge, the entrance is located in a large square, through the corner of a beautiful building with a door that looks like a giant barrel. Step inside and you'll find this very unique Hungarian restaurant. The word "söröző" literally means "beer house," and you can't really tell whether you're in a bar or a restaurant, as it's a bit of both. You can sit in a private room, and the service is excellent and polite. You can choose from a wide selection of Hungarian dishes or from the daily menu (very affordable, usually around 2,500-2,700 forints, which includes one dish and one soup). Among the wines is the famous Hungarian red wine, Bull's Blood. For some reason, this restaurant has retained its local character, perfectly capturing the essence of a typical, old-fashioned Hungarian restaurant atmosphere. You'll easily find a table at any time of day or year. Menza Menza means "typical buffet restaurant" in Hungarian, and indeed, this restaurant offers a high-quality, diverse menu of Hungarian and international dishes, with a beautiful and elegant interior. Menza primarily attracts tourists due to its prime location in the heart of Andrássy Avenue. The service is fast, polite, and friendly. The portions are generous. They're not surprised by takeout bags; if you can't finish your meal, just ask them to pack it up for you. Menza can be busy, so it's best to reserve a table in advance. If you're near the Hungarian Academy of Music, you should definitely try it. Pozzoni Kisvendéglő This is a local favorite in the 13th district, near Margaret Bridge. This area is an old, artistic neighborhood on the Pest side. You won't find many famous sights here, but it has a great atmosphere, surrounded by excellent cafes, restaurants, and beautiful Bauhaus architecture. Everything about the restaurant is designed to convey the atmosphere of an old Hungarian tavern. The interior design, the red and white checkered tablecloths, the dishes your grandparents loved, the presentation of the food, and even the local crowd—everything is impeccable. The prices are affordable (probably the cheapest option on this list), and of course, the portions are generous. This place is very popular with locals, especially on weekends. I highly recommend reserving a table, especially for dinner and lunch. Holgasteinya Finally, here's the most authentic Hungarian restaurant in Budapest. It might not be for everyone, as it's a fish restaurant. While you'll find classic dishes like Lángos, goulash, or goulash on the menu, the main dish is a favorite among many locals: "Fisherman's Soup." This paprika-flavored fish soup is typically made with carp, fish roe, or catfish. Locals serve it with bread or noodles. This soup is a popular Christmas dish in Hungary. If you enjoy delicious fish dishes, this place is a must-visit. If you're not a fan of fish soup, it's still worth a try, as their kitchen is excellent. You won't find a more authentic Hungarian restaurant near Buda Castle. Their freshly homemade bread is also amazing! #HungaryBudapest #Budapest #Austria-HungaryCzech #Austria-HungaryCzechCustomizedCarCharter #Austria-HungaryCzechThreeCountries #EuropeCharterCar #EuropeCharterCarTour #EuropeCharterCarCustomized #EasternEuropeTour #HungaryCharterCar #HungaryCharterCarTour
