1. Haikou Qilou Old Street: Experience Southeast Asian Style in a Classic Car | Senior-Friendly Rating ★★★★★ Core Plan (2 Days, 1 Night) • Day 1: Arrive in the morning → Check into a hotel near the Qilou area → Enjoy afternoon tours in a rickshaw → Enjoy tea in the evening • Day 2: Visit the Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall in the morning → Savor Dongpo Cuisine at lunch → Return in the afternoon Highlights Taking a rickshaw is key! The driver will leisurely navigate the arcades, allowing you to stop at Huanhai Pavilion and the Qilou Art Museum, allowing you to see the detailed relief carvings without having to walk a step. We recommend ordering a cup of partridge tea at Shangnan Hall, paired with freshly baked radish cake. The owner will even bring you a chair for a rest. The Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall has a dedicated staff to explain Hainanese folk customs. The display cases are at a comfortable height, making it easy for parents to stand and browse, and there are also soft benches for resting. For dinner, choose Qiongzhou Past. The waiter will help portion the dishes, and the poached chicken is stewed to a tender tenderness, making it easy for even those with weak teeth to eat. Tip: Check the Qiong Opera schedules at Zizai Restaurant in advance and choose a front-row seat for a great view and to avoid the crowds. 2. Hangzhou Canal Gongchen Bridge Route: Tour the Millennium Canal by Water Bus | Senior-Friendly Rating ★★★★★ Core Plan (1 Day) Morning: Take Water Bus Line 3 → Ascend Gongchen Bridge → Explore the Qiaoxi Historic District Afternoon: Visit the Intangible Cultural Heritage Museums → Enjoy Hangzhou Cuisine in the Evening Highlights This is an officially certified route for seniors! The water bus is as stable as a sofa. Choose a window seat so your parents can enjoy the willow trees swaying on both sides of the river. It's ten times easier than walking along the Su Causeway. The steps to Gongchen Bridge are gentle, and there's a platform in the middle for resting, making it easy to take panoramic photos of the canal. The cobblestone streets of the Qiaoxi Historic District are smooth, and the shops along the way have awnings. If you're tired, stop by a handicraft shop to watch the craftsmen make oil-paper umbrellas. The wooden benches are always available. Of the five major museum clusters, the Arts and Crafts Gallery has the most rest areas and offers free hot water. After a tiring day, enjoy a cup of tea before continuing to explore the "Three Carvings and One Embroidery" exhibits. For lunch, choose a time-honored restaurant in the neighborhood. Call in advance to reserve a table near the wall; the waiters will adjust the height of the tables and chairs. The West Lake Vinegar Fish is sweet and sour, tender and tender, perfect for the elderly. 3. Xichang Qionghai: Enjoy the Lake and Mountain Views by E-Mile | Senior-Friendly Rating ★★★★★ Core Plan (2 Days, 1 Night) • Day 1: Arrive in the morning → Rent an e-mile for a lake tour → Enjoy tea by the lake in the afternoon → Visit the wetland park in the evening • Day 2: Watch the lake mist in the morning → Have mutton noodles for lunch → Return in the afternoon Highly Recommended Details Renting an e-mile with a storage basket for a lake tour is incredibly comfortable! The road around the lake is smooth and has adjustable speeds. Gesang flowers are in full bloom along the way, and my parents, sitting in the back seat, can stop and take photos at any time. When we get tired, we stop by a small shop by the lake. The owner will bring bamboo chairs to the edge, and we can order a cup of buckwheat tea and watch the seagulls fly by, sitting there all afternoon without moving. In the wetland park, instead of taking the main road, you can find a small trail. Bougainvillea flowers cover the trellises, providing shade. Local women you meet will enthusiastically share tips on feeding the seagulls. In the early morning, Qionghai Lake is shrouded in mist, creating a veiled surface. The light is soft, and my parents can easily capture photos standing by the lake. Stay in a city center hotel. Breakfast shops are right outside. You can ask for extra cooking time for the mutton noodles. The rich broth, paired with soft, soaked pot cakes, is both heartwarming and stomach-warming. The roast suckling pig at the night market will be cut into small pieces and served wrapped in lettuce leaves. It's not greasy. 4. Lijiang Shuhe Ancient Town: Relax by the Water | Age-Friendly Rating ★★★★☆ Core Plan (2 Days, 1 Night) • Day 1: Arrive in Lijiang in the morning → Head straight to Shuhe Ancient Town → Check into a waterfront B&B → Relax in a cafe in the afternoon • Day 2: Visit the ancient town's morning market in the morning → Sample Naxi cuisine at noon → Return in the afternoon Highlights Compared to Lijiang Dayan Ancient Town, Shuhe is less crowded and has smoother roads, making it even more comfortable! The polished bluestone pavement is perfectly comfortable even in flat shoes. Rest pavilions with cushioned seating are located along the main streets. Find a cafe near the water and choose a soft window chair so your parents can watch the gurgling stream. The owner will even offer a blanket to keep them cool. The ancient town's morning market is bustling after 8 PM. The stalls are spaced widely apart, allowing you to buy fresh mushrooms and handmade baba without squeezing through the crowds. The stall owners will help you bag the food, saving you the trouble of carrying heavy items. The clay pot chicken at Naxi restaurants is perfectly cooked to the bone, and the waiters will remove the bones beforehand. The mixed dishes are cooked to perfection and paired with multi-grain rice for a nutritious and easy-to-digest experience. Choose a homestay with a courtyard, as it has few steps and handrails. The owner can also arrange a shuttle, eliminating the hassle of carrying luggage. Free wheelchairs are available at service points in the ancient town. 5. Songzanlin Scenic Area, Shangri-La: Stroll along the lakeside to admire the temples | Senior-Friendly Rating ★★★★☆ Core Plan (2 Days, 1 Night) • Day 1: Arrive in Shangri-La in the morning → Check into an air-conditioned hotel → Stroll along the lakeside in the afternoon • Day 2: Watch the sunrise over the Golden Summit in the morning → Enjoy a simple Tibetan lunch → Return in the afternoon Key Details Don't climb the temple stairs! The essence of the lakeside experience lies in its leisurely stroll. The path around the lake is flat and wide, taking only 40 minutes to complete. Rest on the rocks by the lake when you're tired. You can clearly see the temples reflected in the water, and occasionally migratory birds fly by, making for stunning photo ops. Early morning or late afternoon is the best time for sunlight to shine on the Golden Summit, allowing parents to capture stunning photos without waiting long while standing by the lake. Be sure to choose a hotel with adequate oxygen facilities. Inform the front desk in advance if you require a room on a lower floor, and they will provide warm water and glucose water. For meals, opt for light Tibetan cuisine. Ask for less butter in your butter tea, and we'll help you mix your tsampa until it's soft and tender. Serve with vegetable soup to minimize the risk of gastrointestinal discomfort at high altitude. Tip: Prepare a portable oxygen tank before departure, and have your parents take a puff every 20 minutes. Ultraviolet rays are strong in the scenic area, so remember to help your parents wear wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses. Travel tips for parents 📝 1. Prioritize direct transportation, charter a local car or taxi to avoid crowded buses. 2. Choose a hotel room with an elevator. Request a room close to the elevator in advance, preferably with accessibility. 3. Visit only one major attraction per day, with activities in the morning and rest in the afternoon, keeping the pace slow. 4. Bring a thermos and soft snacks to replenish your energy. 5. Take plenty of group photos; rest pavilions and flower stands in scenic areas offer great photo opportunities.
