Xijindu Ancient Street

Xijindu, also known as Xijindu Historical and Cultural District, is located in the northwest of Zhenjiang City, a 15-minute walk east of Jinshan Park. There is an old house with a strong historical atmosphere, and the famous Xijindu Ancient Street is located here. Xijindu has been the ferry terminal since the Three Kingdoms period. Later, due to the gradual shift of the river bank to the north, the ferry has long been gone, leaving only the ancient street of Xijindu on the mountainside of Yuntai Mountain. From the east, you can climb dozens of steps to Xijindu Ancient Street on the mountainside. The more you go to the west, the lower the terrain. The ancient street is covered with old blue stone slabs, with traditional houses and gables made of green bricks on both sides, which shows the vicissitudes of life. The Jinshan Temple is a popular Buddhist temple attraction in Zhenjiang. If you are fan of Chinese architecture and ancient culture, this is the right place to go. This temple was initially established in Eastern Jin dynasty (323-325 BC), later became a Taoist temple. Fomerly known as Longyou Temple, became Jinshan Temple during Yuan dynasty. Deeply explore the treasure city of Zhenjiang, where beautiful scenery and delicious food are not to be missed

On this weekend at the end of August and the beginning of September, we drove to Zhenjiang, a city that is low-key, reserved, and rich in history. We arrived at the 5A scenic spot Jinshan near noon on Saturday. This sacred place with a thousand-year-old temple took us about two hours to tour. We climbed the mountain to enjoy the view and learned that our misunderstanding of Fahai, caused by the widespread legend of 'The Legend of the White Snake,' has lasted for a thousand years... In the afternoon, we visited the Runzhou Daoist Temple, a thousand-year-old Taoist site known as the 'Little Forbidden City.' Later, we went to the former residence and memorial hall of Pearl S. Buck, where we learned about the outstanding contributions this daughter of Zhenjiang made to cultural exchanges between China and the United States. In the evening, we went to Xijin Ferry, the ancient ferry of the Grand Canal of Beijing and Hangzhou. With a long history and significant status, many ancient sites such as the stone pagoda and the British consulate are well preserved. Walking on the stone steps feels like stepping back in time... The streets are lined with food stalls and beer houses. We had Huaiyang cuisine and beer🍺 for dinner, and watched a performance by Peking opera enthusiasts on the central stage... We stayed at the Atour Hotel in the Jinshan Scenic Area, where we saw two big cats🐱 in the lobby, looking very lazy... The next morning, we woke up early. Our morning itinerary included the 5A scenic spot Beigu Mountain and the Zhenjiang Museum. Beigu Mountain opens at 8:30, so we found a special breakfast shop 'Yong Ge's Noodle Shop' in the nearby residential area of Shuilusi Alley. This 30-year-old shop is a true local delicacy. The owner and regulars greeted each other in the local dialect, creating a very lively atmosphere. Highly recommend the pork liver and kidney noodles, very delicious! Climbing Beigu Mountain took about an hour and a half. The famous line by Xin Qiji, 'Where is the divine land? The scenery is all in Beigu Tower!' is indeed true! Beigu Mountain is not high, and the path is shaded by ancient trees, providing shelter from the sun. Beigu Tower, Duojing Tower, Ganlu Temple, and the Iron Pagoda are all famous historical sites with their own stories! On the way down, we also saw the tombs of Lu Su and Tai Shi Ci... Touring Beigu Mountain and climbing Beigu Tower, you can see Jinshan in the front and Jiaoshan in the back, capturing the entire cityscape of Zhenjiang. With so many historical sites and stories, it is also a cultural tour of the Three Kingdoms history. The 5A scenic spot title is well-deserved. We then drove to the Zhenjiang Museum, parking on the street next to Boxian Road. Walking along Boxian Road, we were fortunate to see Boxian Park, inscribed by Soong Ching-ling (Zhao Boxian, a follower of Mr. Kong Zhongshan and a martyr of the Xinhai Revolution), Huairen Residence, and the Zhenjiang branch of the Red Cross... all buildings from the Republic of China period. The Zhenjiang Museum is a national first-class museum with a rich collection of artifacts, allowing us to deeply understand the history and culture of the ancient Wu State in Zhenjiang. By noon, we had crab roe soup dumplings (36 yuan each) and shrimp wontons at a teahouse on Boxian Road... We saw that the biscuit shop across the street was doing good business, so we bought four big biscuits (Niu Ji Biscuits, 4 yuan each). The radish silk biscuits were extremely delicious and must be eaten hot! We returned to the hotel to pack our luggage, said goodbye to the two big cats🐱 in the lobby, and left with wonderful memories of Zhenjiang's beautiful scenery, good food, and kind people (by the way, the people here are very simple and enthusiastic about giving directions). We set off on our way home... This weekend was very happy. We had an immersive tour of Zhenjiang, this treasure city, with our family. This is Zhenjiang's famous Three Mountains and One Ferry, with Jiaoshan, known as the floating jade in the river. This time visiting Zhenjiang, Jiaoshan left a deep impression on me❗️ Among the three mountains and one ferry, Jiaoshan is the least famous, but it is my favorite😘. Jiaoshan is one of the famous 'Three Mountains of Jingkou,' known for its natural scenery and ancient, serene beauty, covering an area of about 1500 acres. Bupo Pavilion, Dongling Spring, Dinghui Temple, Guanlan Pavilion, Cliff Inscriptions, Ancient Fort. Jiaoshan is renowned both domestically and internationally because it stands tall in the middle of the river, known as the 'Pillar of the Midstream' and the 'Stone of Zhenjiang,' exuding a majestic aura. The mountain temple is faintly visible, the forest is lush, and the environment is beautiful, like a fairy island floating on the water. Take a ferry to the island and tour counterclockwise🔄. The ancient fort, an important historical defense on the Yangtze River, is very sturdy. Jiaoshan is not high, offering a bird's-eye view of the Yangtze River scenery. At the top is the Wanfo Pagoda, and at the foot are the cliff inscriptions. The ticket🎟️ price is affordable, and the ferry🆓 runs every half hour. The parking lot at the entrance costs only 4 yuan.
