If you have, it’s likely for the Shaolin Temple or Longmen grottoes (check out my other posts for a review on those cultural highlights) but it’s not often that YunTai mountain is talked about as a must-go place. Situated in the north of the province, YunTai mountain not only hosts beautiful waterfalls, monkey trails and mountain top temples, but also the Red Rock Gorge. This really took my breath away with miles of stairs up and down the crevice with the characteristic… you’ve guessed it! Red rocks! The whole scenic area is easily accessible via tourist bus, cable car and boat!

Getting There - located in Jiaozuo Henan..it’s better to drive or arrange a car as there are not many taxis there.. Getting There - we drove on our car, but there plenty of daily scheduled busses from Jiaozuo. Attractions - plenty of nature parks, mountains and waterfalls. most of them under UNESCO protection. Yuntai Shan, Monkey Kingdom! This is the place where you can meet these animals. They are accustomed to human but monkeys are monkeys, so, please, be careful, especially on the road going through the forest, where is complete wildlife area. Monkeys are not restricted and free to move anywhere. The precautions ate necessary. But our little brothers will be very glad to get a piece of bread from your hand. This visit was very interesting. It could be told thus place is too much cold for monkeys, yes, they are mostly met at southern provinces, not in central China, but these wild packs are adopted to the northern territories and feel very good.

Phoenix Ridge. This is also important part of Yuntai mountain geopark. Well, it is required efforts to climb there, but it worth it. One good news is there are mostly road for walking instead of steps exhausting the knees, so it is not so hard. The breathtaking view can't left anyone indifferent. The mountain had a glass bridge going around it like a serpent, that's very impressive. This is must visit if you are in Yuntai Shan, Jiaozuo city, Henan Province.

Tanpu Gorge. Again Yuntai Shan Geopark. Henan province. Charming magic place. The paradise for photographers. Clean area, pure water, green carpet covering gorgeous mountains, all of those elements are combined into fantastic landscape. This journey appears as an opened door to fantasy world where very step means adventure. Unforgettable experience.

Qinglong Gorge. Qinglong Gorge is also located in the Yuntai Mountain Geopark. Qinglong means green dragon. This area represents geological formations after lithosphere plates colliding. Deep canyon with green vegetation and cristal clean water flows. It looks so pure, so clean, that you start to feel connection with nature. I recommend two days, but I have covered major part during the one day. The Geopark is amazing! There are so many beautiful places! It looks like the lost world from the novel, looks lije our planet a million years ago.

Yuntai Mountain in Jiaozuo, Henan province, China. A delightful adventure into the frozen waterfalls and rivers during winter time. I went there twice in two consecutive days, first on Saturday and then on Tuesday, I just couldn't get enough. Traveling from Zhengzhou -take the high speed train at the Zhengzhou railway station to Jioazuo, then get into a tourist bus which will take you almost an hour to get there but very cheap, it only cost 5 RMB (at the exit point to your right there is a small booth with a lady offering to take you there)or call didi which is super expensive （I don't recommend unless you don't have any choice）or take a taxi, which charged me 60 RMB for one trip to the mountain. Note: 1) Make sure you leave the mountain before 5:30pm, so you don't get stranded there with no where to go, or book a hotel there if you are planning to explore more until late. 2) Make sure to take a drivers number incase you need a ride back, as transportation is very scarce in the evening, even Didi doesn't respond at your request.
