Who gets it?! Shanxi hides a "mini Jiuzhaigou," so cool at 22℃ in summer you won't want to leave, 90% of people haven't discovered it yet!
Hey everyone! Did you think that to escape the summer heat, you could only squeeze into Qinghai or Sichuan? Well, I've struck gold this time! Hidden in Wuzhai County, Xinzhou, Shanxi, there's a cool and secluded paradise "known to few" – Wuzhaigou Scenic Area! There are no crowds here, just endless greenery, babbling brooks, and a super comfortable mountain breeze. Taking photos is a breeze, with every shot looking like a masterpiece. After reading this, you'll definitely add it to your summer checklist! 📝
🌟 How amazing is Wuzhaigou? These features immediately captivated me!
1. A natural air-conditioned room at 22℃: You don't need air conditioning when you come here in summer! The forest coverage rate exceeds 90%. Walking on the forest paths, the wind carries the scent of grass and trees, making it 100 times more comfortable than staying in an air-conditioned room. Those who fear the heat, go for it!
2. A "Northern Mini Jiuzhaigou" landscape painting: The valley hides numerous streams, waterfalls, and "haizi" (high-altitude lakes). The water is exceptionally clear, allowing you to see the rocks and small fish at the bottom. On sunny days, the sunlight sparkles on the water, creating "healing wallpapers" with every shot; on cloudy days, the clouds and mist wrap around the mountains, making it feel like stepping into an ink wash painting, full of artistic charm!
3. Secluded and uncrowded, enjoy nature exclusively: Compared to the bustling crowds of popular scenic spots, Wuzhaigou is still very "niche." You can often enjoy a scenic view all to yourself, taking photos however you like, without worrying about strangers in your shots!
📸 Must-visit photo spots + photo tips, even beginners can take stunning pictures!
1. Yingbin Waterfall
- Highlight: A waterfall not far from the scenic area entrance. The water flow isn't particularly large but is very dynamic, surrounded by green trees, making it exceptionally fresh.
- Photo Tip: Wear light-colored dresses (white, light blue are perfect). Stand on a rock beside the waterfall, have a friend shoot from a low angle, framing both the waterfall and the sky. Remember to use "burst mode" to capture the dynamic flow of the water – super ethereal!
2. Qinglian Haizi
- Highlight: The largest "haizi" in the valley, with exceptionally blue water, like a sapphire embedded in the forest. There's a wooden boardwalk along the shore, making it feel like you're "walking on water."
- Photo Tip: Come between 3-5 PM! The slanting sunlight will create "golden light" on the water. You can sit on the wooden boardwalk, smile sideways at the camera, or turn your back to the camera and gaze at the "haizi," letting your friend capture a "back view killer" shot. Brighten it slightly in post-processing for a super healing blue-green tone!
3. Forest Stream Path
- Highlight: There are many small paths along the streams in the scenic area. The stream water is ankle-deep (super cool to step into in summer!), surrounded by towering trees, and the light and shadow are particularly beautiful.
- Photo Tip: Step barefoot into the stream (remember to wear non-slip shoes, the rocks can be slippery). Have a friend shoot from the front, capturing you looking down and playing with the water, or raising your hands to feel the wind. No need for deliberate poses, natural shots are the best!
4. Mountain Top Observation Deck
- Highlight: An observation deck reachable by climbing for about 15 minutes, offering panoramic views of the entire Wuzhaigou. You can see distant mountains, nearby forests, and the "haizi" below, with an incredibly open view.
- Photo Tip: Come in the morning to shoot the sunrise! When the sun first rises, the sky is orange-pink, casting a gentle glow on the mountains and forests. Stand at the edge of the observation deck, spread your arms for a "embracing nature" photo, creating an amazing atmosphere!
🚗 Transportation + 🏨 Accommodation + 🍜 Dining, your ultimate guide!
🔹 Transportation Guide
- Self-driving: Most recommended! About 1.5 hours drive from Xinzhou city, or about 2.5 hours from Taiyuan. Navigate to "Wuzhaigou Scenic Area." The roads are asphalt all the way, and the road conditions are good. There's a parking lot at the scenic area entrance, making parking convenient.
- Public transport: There are long-distance buses from Xinzhou Bus Station to Wuzhai County (about 1.5 hours). From Wuzhai County, transfer to a local mini-bus or take a taxi to the scenic area (about 20 minutes). Suitable for those without a car.
🔹 Accommodation Recommendations (high value, clean and comfortable)
1. Wuzhaigou Hotel: Not far from the scenic area entrance, a 5-minute walk to the scenic area. The rooms are very clean, with standard rooms and family rooms. Some rooms offer mountain views, and it's especially quiet at night, suitable for those who want to enter the scenic area early.
2. Wuzhai County Yingbin Hotel: Located in Wuzhai County town, a 20-minute drive from the scenic area. The hotel facilities are comprehensive, with a restaurant (serving local dishes). It offers great value, suitable for those who want to explore the county town as well.
3. Shanli Renjia Homestay: A niche homestay within the scenic area, run by local villagers. The rooms have a "farmhouse style," and you can enjoy home-cooked meals prepared by the owner (such as stir-fried wild mushrooms, stewed free-range chicken). You can see the stars at night. Suitable for those who prefer an "ecological" experience.
🔹 Dining Recommendations
- Must-try local dishes: Stir-fried wild mushrooms (freshly picked, exceptionally delicious), Wuzhai stewed lamb (tender meat, not gamey, warming in winter, not greasy in summer), cold mixed wild vegetables (available at restaurants around the scenic area, refreshing and appetizing).
- Tip: There aren't many restaurants within the scenic area. It's recommended to eat at your accommodation or in Wuzhai County town, where there are more choices and better prices. You can eat your fill for 30-50 RMB per person!
🚶♀️ 1-day/2-day itinerary, choose according to your time!

5 Niche Scenic Spots Nearby, worth visiting on the way!
1. Heyeping: A 20-minute drive from Wuzhaigou, it's Shanxi's largest subalpine meadow. In summer, the grass is lush green, like a "green carpet." You can ride horses, have a picnic, and enjoy incredibly open views!
2. Luya Mountain: A 1-hour drive from Wuzhaigou, it's Shanxi's "natural oxygen bar." There are many strangely shaped rocks and ancient pine trees over a thousand years old on the mountain, suitable for those who love hiking.
3. Wannian Ice Cave: A 1.2-hour drive from Wuzhaigou, super magical! You still need to wear a jacket to enter the cave in summer. The cave is full of ice columns and ice curtains, like stepping into a "world of ice and snow," forming a charming contrast with the "heat" of Wuzhaigou!
4. Xuankong Village (Hanging Village): A 1-hour drive from Wuzhaigou, the entire village is built on a cliff. The houses are made of wood, and walking on the village's boardwalks feels like "walking in mid-air," very unique!
5. Ningwu Tianchi: A 1.5-hour drive from Wuzhaigou, it's Shanxi's largest group of high-altitude lakes, known as the "Northern West Lake." The lake water is very calm, surrounded by grasslands, perfect for taking "forest-themed blockbusters"!
