The Plain of Jars is located in Xieng Khuang, northern Laos. It is a plateau with large stones resembling jars scattered throughout the area. They are from the late Metal Age, no less than 2,500 - 3,000 years ago. Archaeologists have discovered bones in the area. It is assumed that the stones resembling jars are “containers” containing bones, which is a funeral ritual for ancient Lao people. However, there was a legend about the Plain of Jars that the jars lined up here were liquor jars belonging to “Khun Chuang”, the hero of both sides of the Mekong River. That Fun is located in the town of Khun district. It was built in 2119. The pagoda was built to store relics of the Buddha brought from India during the time when Buddhism spread in Laos. That Fun is very beautiful and there is also a service to rent beautiful tribal costumes to wear to take beautiful pictures. The rental fee is about 35,000 kip, the entrance fee is 10,000 kip. It consists of thousands of stone jars scattered around the upland valleys and the lower foothills of the central plain of the Xiankhoang Plateau. The jars are arranged in clusters ranging in number from one to several hundred. The plain of Jar site 1, it is the most famous and the well known attraction site for Xiengkhuong province. We went there shortly during April 2022, that is so peaceful and quiet due of panic, all thing still remains as well as good maintenance.
