2024 Tunis Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)
Divided into two sections, the ville novelle (new city) and medina (Arabic old city) Tunis is a fascinating city with some of Northern Africa's best markets. The medina, with its winding streets, hidden places and vaulted alleys, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and, not surprisingly, the main attraction for tourists. The ancient city of Carthage is equally accessible from Tunis. Hotels usually include a few meals with your stay, while coffee shops are plentiful, and restaurants often serve the traditional tagine, a dish cooked in a clay pot with a cone-shaped lid. Italian, French and Arabic influences all combine in a wonderful mix as easy to lose yourself in as the warrens of the medina.

The Medina of Tunis, a UNESCO world heritage site
The Medina of Tunis, located to the west of the Bab Al-Bahr gate, is incredibly atmospheric.
The narrow, winding streets are packed with shops, cafes and restaurants - as well as mosques and historic buildings.
It's touristy, but not crazily so - and still maintains that local feel. Highly recommended. Every turn is a postcard pic!

Enchanting Tunis
Tunisia seems to be overlooked in favor for its more famous neighbor Morocco, nonetheless Tunisia and in particular it's capital Tunis is am enchanting city with both French and Arabic architecture blended together. Don't expect anything overtly fancy or developed in this city, in fact take it with more open eyes and see the beauty behind its more rough surface. A bit outside the city, you'll find the ruins of Carthage and bit further afield is the very picturesque village of Sidi Bou Said, which almost transports you to a village in Greece. Tunis is full of little hidden gems at prices that aren't at cut throat prices.
The Colosseum is an oval amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy. The neighborhood of Medina of Tunis is located at the capital of the country #tunisia - the city of #tunis and yes it is really nice place. The guide told us many interesting stories about how the people lived here 100 years ago. Nowadays the town is well kept and easily shows the tradition of this nation. It is a must when you visit this country. It needs just few hours to be explored...

Sidi Bou Said is a small village in #tunisia , northern #africa which is all in white and blue. The law says that all the buildings should be in these and only these colours and this saves the authentical style of the place. It was really enjoyable even not big at all. There were many touristy cafés around and also many organized tours.

Tunisia's dinner is about slow food, drink appetizers, staple foods, desserts, and orderly. During a chat with my family, my main dish, Couscus, was on the table. I saw that its overall color is yellow-brown, in addition to the shrimp and fish mutton, a large, fried green pepper lying on the yellow, this green is the highlight of the whole dish.
Green pepper is not spicy, the taste is the cooking method of oily oysters. I took a spoon and took a sip of Couscous. The wheat was stewed with turmeric, garlic and onion. The entrance was soft and some were close to millet. Taste. Fried green pepper is the best dish of Berber, and turmeric is the favorite spice in this country. It tastes slightly spicy, can drive cold, and can prevent high blood pressure. It is not difficult to see it in various dishes. . Needless to say, the freshness of the mutton, I saw that the flocks of Tunisia were all kept away, and the entrance was not smelly at all. Eating seafood is a custom left in the Carthage dynasty. Carthage is a large maritime country, and squid and prawns are often used for food.
Tunisia is a country suitable for wandering, and I am indulging in a four-wheel drive. Looking at the rocky deserts on both sides, passing quickly through the window. I wandered through the innocent sand dunes and looked for an oasis of desert. I sat in a sloppy cafe and listened to the rhythm of the Mediterranean. Or inadvertently smashing Berbers, they looked at me with warm eyes, held me with warm hands, asked me to listen to them about ancient legends. Finally, walking in Medina with no purpose, let the warm sun shine on the colorful carpet and paint a beautiful picture. All these beautiful adventures made me infatuated with Tunisia.
Finally came to Tunisia, the northernmost country of the African continent, this beautiful country surrounded by the Mediterranean, facing the warm sea breeze of the Mediterranean, walking in the charming blue and white town, in a pure world, enjoying the tranquility of the monochrome world, seeing It will look at the millennium!
Hello, Tunisian city, do you know that you are so beautiful? !
The city on the other side of Sicily in North Africa, the capital of Tunisia, the city of Tunis, is a universe better than I imagined!
Fortunately, I have reserved enough time here to step on Tunisia Time to feel the place~
get up early in the courtyard for breakfast, then go to Medina to hang out. There is a granny holding my hand and boasting that I look good. The boss who passed the shop selling lights called me princess. A cute little brother grabbed a kitten to let me touch it~ I watched the sunset on the rooftop in the evening~
Everything is beautiful and friendly, that is, the Tunisian city I have experienced ~
Come on, now I can change my name to the Princess of Tunisia in North Africa~ I have doubled it for this.
There is no day in Tunisia that is not good weather. Clear skies, blue sky, white walls, low clouds, high sky. The
Carthage ruins are the most casual sites I have ever been to, and I can freely touch the stones of these millennia.
There has always been a question: I am an Asian face, with brown eyes and black eyebrows, but it is a yellow hair. Can Tunisians judge where I am?
Good luck! Going to the blue and white town to go to the fast sunset, we drove along the coastline and randomly selected a point from the map. It was really a random choice. The name is: Gammarth
The result is super beautiful. Oh, the sunset is simply a fairy tale world. The streets of neat palm trees are like the Europeans in the movie. There are many flowers, and Bougainvillea is the favorite of Ke Ke. There are also beautiful white houses, one by one arranged by the sea. Many people walk by the seaside road, and the clowns sell balloons to the children.
"Is the old town that I live with here a city?"
I was asking Ke Ke all the way. Please, its too fun!
BTW, there is a KFC here, the chicken is delicious!
Have a few beautiful street beats! I feel more confident! I like my dark skin! !
In the blue and white town of Sidi bou Said in Tunisia, I lived for a little half a month~ this is a small town where Europeans and Americans often travel.
Rent a house in the hill, look at the sea every day, breakfast on the balcony, stroll around the street, read a book about sailing in the afternoon, go to bar at night to listen to music, see people come and go ~
I often watch the rain in Tunisia, I miss the Caribbean Sea, the days are comfortable blue and white ~
Many people come here for a day trip, but I suggest staying for a night or two.
It is located in Tunisia for about an hour. Public transport is also very convenient. You can take the light rail TGM from Tunis Marine in Tunis, and you can reach this small town on the cliffs of the Mediterranean Sea in about 40 minutes.
There is no such tourist attraction as Santorini, and in general it is quiet, suitable for a meditation sun.
Tunisia is a small, cozy country in North Africa with a blue Mediterranean sea and an untouched Sahara desert. Carthage, once equal to Rome, was its former capital. . The buildings of the capital of the Arabian-style old city and the new European city are mostly milky white, nestled in the shade of date palms, palm trees and olive trees, like white lotus floating on the Mediterranean. The Bourguiba Street in the heart of the New Town, in the center of the Republic Square in the heart of the street, stands the bronze statue of the former President Bourguiba. In the distance, the water and the sky are the lakes of Tunisia and the Gulf of Tunisia.
SIDI BOU SAID, the full name of Sidi Bou Said, is located in the northeastern part of Tunis, the capital of Tunisia. It is called the Blue and White Town because of the town on the cliffs of the Mediterranean Sea. All houses have only two colors, white walls, blue doors and windows.
The whole town is along the mountain, the layout is very simple, a cobbled street, white houses shining in the sun on both sides, and some alleys stick out from the house. The
houses are only two or three stories high, and the most people feel as if they are in a fairy tale, the blue iron windows and the blue wooden doors inlaid on the white wall.
The famous Anthony Baths were built during the Roman Emperor Anthony in the 2nd century AD.
There is a ruins of the Christian church in the old city, the earliest Christian church in Tunisia. Most of the relics of the Phoenician era that were excavated were graves, sarcophagi and tombs.
The well-preserved Anthony public bath is located near the beach at the Carthage ruins. The upper building is no longer there, but the structure of the building can clearly see the symmetry of the dressing room, the hot swimming pool and the massage room. Gradually warm the hot water room, warm water room, cold water room, gym and swimming pool. The water in the bathroom is drawn from the Zagwang Aqueduct 60 km away.
Sunset, just a bunch of sun hitting the bath, the golden light of the entire site is particularly shocking.
The ruins of the ancient city of Carthage, located 17 kilometers northeast of Tunis, the capital of Tunisia. In 1979, UNESCO listed the ruins of the ancient city of Carthage as a cultural heritage on the World Heritage List.
Carthage In the Phoenician language, it means a new city. According to written records, the ancient city of Carthage was built in the late 9th century BC. After the city was built, the national strength gradually became stronger and the territory expanded continuously, becoming one of the political, economic, commercial and agricultural centers of the Mediterranean region at that time. After the power of the Phoenicians, there was a direct conflict with the Roman Empire. In the third Punic War, the Phoenicians were defeated by the Romans. According to the resolute claims of the Roman Senate, Carthage was razed to the ground by the Roman army. In 122 BC, Rome rebuilt the city on the site and developed it into the second largest city in the country after Rome. In 698 AD, it was completely destroyed by the Arab army.
Currently The Tunisian government is planning to build the entire ancient city of Carthage into a national archaeological park to preserve this great monument.
The Baldu National Museum is located on the Baldo Square in the northwestern suburb of Tunis, the capital of Tunisia. It is the most important archaeological and cultural museum in North Africa. Throughout Africa, it is second only to the Cairo Museum in Egypt, and is known around the world for its rich and colorful mosaics.
Entering the museum, you can see that there are more than forty halls and promenades in the pavilion. The exhibits are divided into prehistoric, Phoenician and Carthage, Roman, Christian, Arab Islamic and Greek art.
The Roman period mosaics in the museum are among the best in the world both in quantity and quality. The contents of these mosaics include pastoral life, natural scenery, fishing and hunting, sailing, sports competitions, drama songs and dances, funeral rituals, and mythological and religious stories. The color is coordinated and the technique is exquisite. Although it has nearly 2000 years of history, it is still bright and new.
