Croatia-Trogir
Day 14 of road trip. I am glad I pushed on our journey to Croatia as I initially hesitated to drive here due to the long distance. We arrived at Trogir after a 3 hour drive from Plitvice Lake. Its not a very popular tourist destination but I really love the vibes upon arrival. It’s very clean, less crowded, it has a very chill old town square with shops and cafe to just relax and enjoy the atmosphere. Feels very safe with many local kids running around playing.
Trogir's old town and promenade.
Trogir is a historic city in Croatia, founded in the 3rd century BC, located in the center of Dalmatia, near Split. As a commercial city and port, Trogir has experienced the rule of many periods, including ancient Greece, ancient Rome, and Venice, and has a rich historical heritage. The old town combines a variety of architectural styles, such as Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque, such as the Cathedral of St. Lawrence, which is an outstanding representative of architectural art. The Cathedral of St. Lawrence is the core building of Trogir's old town, and the Romanesque doors and exquisite carvings are particularly eye-catching. Kamerlengo Castle is located in the southwest corner of the old town, with an irregular shape and a tower at each of the four corners. It is one of the best places to overlook the entire old town of Trogir and the Adriatic Sea.
Trogir: A Hidden Gem on Croatia’s Coastline
Trogir stole my heart with its charming medieval streets and Trogir: A Hidden Gem on Croatia’s Coastlinecrystal-clear waters. Staying at the lovely apartment, I was just a short walk from the UNESCO-listed Old Town. The town’s architecture is a stunning mix of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque styles, and the Cathedral of St. Lawrence was an absolute must-see. A top tip: climb the cathedral’s bell tower for breathtaking views of the town and the Adriatic Sea. The laid-back vibe of the waterfront promenade is perfect for evening strolls, and the nearby Čiovo Island offers serene beaches away from the crowds. Trogir is the perfect blend of history, culture, and coastal beauty!
#TravelTips:Trogir is ideal for a day trip from Split, but spending a few days here lets you fully enjoy its relaxed atmosphere. Don't forget to visit the local markets for fresh seafood and Croatian delicacies.

Trogir: Small but Exquisite, a Medieval Town on the Adriatic Coast!
Trogir is known as a famous example of the continuity of the city's history, which has gone through ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, the Middle Ages through Venice, and later the French and Austro-Hungarian empires. The island settlements have a complex history of vertical street layout dating back to the Greek period. 🏛️🌊
📍 Ancient City of Trogir
Built on Greek and Roman sites, Trogir is an excellent example of a medieval city, retaining the architectural influence of both. Moreover, Trogir has well preserved its urban architecture, hardly allowing for the influence of modern culture, and each urban landscape is a remarkable testimony to the history of social and cultural development. 🏰📜
📍 Fort Kamerlengo
The fortress of Kamerlengo was built to defend against the Ottoman Turks and was once the residence of the Doge of Venice. It used to be connected to the walls of Trogir and the Tower of San Marco on the other side. During the summer tourist season, the castle turns into an open-air cinema and a stage for concerts. 🎥🎶
📍 St. Lawrence Cathedral
The Cathedral of St. Lawrence is the heart of the history of the ancient city of Trogir. After centuries of construction, it combines Romanesque and Gothic styles. One of the most striking features is the beautifully carved Romanesque door, which also houses many fine paintings by St. Jerome and St. John the Baptist, as well as a high 14th-century bell tower. ⛪🖼️
📍 The Land Gate
The Land Gate, the main entrance to Trogir in the 15th century, was an important part of the Venetian fortifications and was built at the same time as the city walls. Notable features include the lion of St. Mark above the arch of the gate, and a statue of St. John of Trogir, the city's patron saint. 🚪🦁
📍 St. Nicholas Benedictine Abbey
The interior of the Benedictine Abbey of St. Nicholas is dominated by the Baroque style, with many precious works of art, as well as exquisite reliefs depicting characters and scenes from Greek mythology. 🏛️🎨

Unexpected gem of a small town near Split
Trogir is a small town near Split that is unexpectedly beautiful. It’s old town is a UNESCO protected heritage site and the town was used as a filming location for celebrated TV series Game of Thrones. The town has a certain charm and feels much less touristy than Split, and makes for a good day trip if you are interested in architecture and landscapes. Would highly recommend!

[Travel around Eastern Europe] Trogir-Sbenik
drive from Split to Zadar, passing two ancient cities, Trogir and Sberik. The two cities are very small. If you are in a hurry, you can walk around and you don't have to stay.
Trogir is too mini, you can go shopping in an hour, go out and take the mountain road, you can find the parking spot, take a bird's eye view of Figure 1.
Unlike the ancient city built by other Romans or Venetians in Dalmatia, Sbenik is a city built by Slavs and has never been attacked by Osman because of its excellent fortifications. Climb to the highest fortress on the top of the mountain (not open), there is no one tourist, you can enjoy the unrivalled view of the ancient city, the sea and the Kornati Islands.
St. James Cathedral is the prototype of the Titanium Library. The setting sun shines on the streets and houses of Sberik, a golden color, which is exactly what Braavos looks like, the country of golden glow, full of glory, freedom and desire.
