2025 Tiger Leaping Gorge Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in May)

I came to Hodo Gorge for the first time in 2017 out of frustration while watching World Theme Travels. Since then, I have been coming here once a year because I have such fond memories of trekking. It takes about 2 hours to take a bus from Lijiang Bus Terminal to Hodo Gorge. There is a departure from Lijiang Bus Terminal at 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM. When you arrive at Hodo Gorge, sit on the bus and the person collecting the entrance fee will come up to the bus and collect the entrance fee of 45 yuan. Payment can be made with WeChat Pay or Alipay cash. When you get off the bus, there is a trekking course. If you go up from the entrance, it takes 7 hours to get to Zhongdu Guesthouse. But most people get off the bus, catch a bus, go up to Nasikakzan, and start trekking from Nasikakzan. It takes about 3 hours to pass 28 bands and 5 hours to Jungdoakzan. #One-day trip plan Shangri-La is located in the northwest of Yunnan Province, China. Interesting tourist attractions that I have been to and were impressed with are: 📍Zhongshanlin Lama Temple is over 300 years old. There are lamas living in the temple. It is a temple on a mountain that requires climbing over 200 steps. Photography is prohibited inside the temple, but you can take pictures outside. 📍Tiger Leaping Gorge is a deep and high mountain pass. There are escalators. There are currently 4 tiger statues. There are many places to take pictures. 📍Zhongdian Ancient Town is in Shangri-La. The town is built in Tibetan style. There are restaurants, shops, souvenirs on both sides of the road. I recommend trying grilled yak meat. When you reach the central square at night, there will be a local dance performance for tourists to join. The atmosphere is very fun and lively. 📍Guishan Temple or Dafo Temple as Thais call it has a golden statue of Sakyamuni Buddha inside. Photography is prohibited. I solo-ed hiked one of the top 10 hikes in China! #tigerleapinggorge #tigerleapinggorgehike Booked my transport off Xiecheng (search for 中跳峡徒步) for 140RMB. A bus will pick you up from the ancient town at 7AM depending on your location. Transport to the hiking start point is around 2hrs. No entrance fee required. You usually will have 3 hiking startpoints to choose from: 1. Chama 2. Halfway 3. Zhang Laoshi (from longest distance to shortest) I would recommend halfway so you'd have more time at the gorge. Halfway is around 15km to Zhang Laoshi (took me 1.5hr). It is not a strenuous hike with very minimal uphill. Loads of downhill so prep a knee guard if your knees hurt. Good to prepare a good hiking shoe as there are loose stones which could make you slip. From Zhang Laoshi, you will be hiking down to the gorge (30 min) and you have the chance to take the most gorgeous photo of your life (pic 1). I queued 1 HR for this photo so you really have to take note of your time. Skip lunch and come here first so you don't have to queue that long.

Tiger Leaping Gorge - China 🇨🇳 This place is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. AAAA level, it is a canyon above the Yangtze River and the deepest in the world. Legend has it that a tiger escaped from a hunter by jumping across the water at the narrowest gap of about 25 meters. Thus the name of the place came from. But now the water is stronger, the gorge is not as narrow as before. 🐅⛰️ As for us, we used money to solve the problem of buying knee joints. By going up and down the escalator for about 70 yuan. But it was worth it because we probably couldn't walk by ourselves for thousands of steps. Plus the weather was very cold and windy. 🙌🏻 At the bottom, there are both a photo spot with the landmark and a tunnel of bells to make a wish. When we reached this point, there were a lot of people. The wind was strong and our hair was disheveled. In my mind, I wondered what we were doing here. 😂😂😂 But if anyone comes to visit this route, I recommend stopping by. Due to the narrow terrain of Tiger Leaping Gorge, the flow of the river passing through it becomes faster, and huge waves surge, forming a spectacular scenery. You can choose to buy escalator tickets at the Tiger Leaping Gorge Scenic Area, which is easier and faster than walking up the stairs. 💞Recommendation reason: Witnessing the unique scenery here made me sigh at the magnificence of nature 💰Per capita consumption: Tickets cost a few dozen yuan. I booked a bus ticket the day before at Lijiang Bus Terminal. The bus driver bought me a bulk admission ticket at the Hodo Gorge ticket office. I got off at Hodo Gorge Scenic Area, looked around Hodo Gorge, and went up. I thought it would be late if I started trekking from Nasi Gaekjan, so I took a car and went to Chama Gaekjan. They say that many Koreans visit here because it became famous after appearing on TV shows like New Journey to the West, Kang Ho-dong, Lee Soo-geun, and Eun Ji-won. I had Shin Ramyun stir-fried potatoes and tomato and egg for lunch and started trekking. The trekking course is a 2-day, 1-night course, and today I will go to Jungdo Gaekjan and stay for 1 night. I was amazed by the beautiful scenery while trekking. It was a truly breathtaking view that I could not capture in pictures. While trekking, I met many young Chinese people and foreign friends, shared many stories about life, and when I arrived at Jungdo Gaekjan, I had a great time drinking beer with many new friends. The next day, I left Jungdo Gaekjan and trekked to Jang Seonsaeng Gaekjan, and there were beautiful mountains and I saw the waterfalls. I arrived at Zhangshensheng Inn and booked a bus ticket back to Lijiang. I had some time to spare, so I went to see Zhonghu Gorge. The depth of the gorge is said to be over 2800 meters, so the sound of the water flowing down was really loud and scary. I really felt rewarded because I experienced a trekking course that I must experience in my life for 2 days and 1 night. Here at Tiger Leaping Gorge, it should be changed to 'an unthinkable force' or 'an unspeakable force'. In the face of the 'force' of Tiger Leaping Gorge, one simply cannot think of the word 'stop', nor can one utter it. In fact, you wouldn't dare to say the word 'stop'.
