If you don’t like crowded resort, Roach Reefs Resort is definitely a place for you. It is a man made tropical reefs resort with swaying coconut palms and shady trees.
The dive spots were excellent, very professional Dive Masters that make sure you get the best throughout your dives. The staffs were pretty friendly too.

Semporna has fulfilled all my fantasies about an island paradise
Malaysia's visa-free policy makes it even more convenient to visit Semporna! It boasts Malaysia's most beautiful islands🏝 and the only stateless sea gypsies, the Bajau Laut, in the world. The numerous islands, big and small, are scattered like pearls, forming a secret haven waiting to be discovered by the world~
Activities: There are various islands to explore according to personal preference. Mabul Island and Sipadan Island are more suitable for snorkeling🤿 and sea fishing, and also great for macro underwater photography. Kapalai Island, Mantabuan Island, and Timba Timba Island are perfect for leisure and photography. Mataking Island: Rich underwater resources, beautiful scenery, but only accessible to guests staying at the island's resort! On Bohey Dulang Island, you can hike and enjoy distant views. There are no direct flights to Semporna; you can choose to transfer through Kota Kinabalu. A longer transfer time might just reward you with a stunning sunset you won't regret.
Accommodation: The conditions in Semporna town are average, so it's recommended to book a better hotel near the jetty. Many might want to experience staying in an overwater bungalow! But don't blindly book one just because it's labeled as such, check the reviews or the environment. Some are built by locals and may have poor facilities!
Little tips: Use a Celcom SIM card. It's good to have some cash as many convenience stores and restaurants only accept cash. When encountering begging Bajau Laut children, don't give them anything, or you'll be surrounded by a group of kids asking for more. Overseas hotels do not provide free toothpaste and toothbrushes, so remember to bring your own!

A low-key tourist destination! Semporna
Located in a county of Tawau City, Sabah, Malaysia, Semporna is an underestimated resort. Once just a small fishing village that couldn't be found on the map, it has now developed into a world-famous underwater tourism center.
Semporna has nearly twenty islands of different sizes, including the overwater bungalow Kapalai Island known in Southeast Asia, the one-island-one-hotel Mabul, the home of the sea gypsies Mabul Island, the hometown of sea fish Bum Bum Island, and the Tun Sakaran where you can overlook the panorama of Semporna. Each island has its unique features.
Here are some recommended islands:
Bum Bum Island: This is a typical private island with pure white beaches and a variety of beach houses and overwater bungalows to choose from. There are two resorts on the island.
Mataking Island: This island is larger in area, lush in vegetation, without overwater bungalows, only sea view and garden view cottages, very suitable for experiencing deep diving.
Kapalai Island: Strictly speaking, this is not an island, but a sandbar. The resorts on the island are all small wooden houses built on the water, which are popular honeymoon destinations for couples.
In addition, Tun Sakaran also has a marine park with eight islands of different sizes, including Gaya Island, Sleeping Beauty Island, Mandabuan and Meiga Island. Except for the military island where troops are stationed, the other three islands all have Bajau villages.

A hidden gem in Malaysia
Pulau Bohey Dulang is an absolute must-visit destination in Malaysia. The panoramic views from the hilltop are breathtaking. The island is a nature lover’s dream and it came true.
I booked an island hopping tour from Semporna and this spot was one of my favourites. The atmosphere, crystal-clear turquoise water, greenery, marine life and coral reefs are incredible, everything on this island is astonishing.
If you are looking for a tropical paradise that feels untouched and unspoiled, Pulau Bohey Dulang is your place.

Want to go snorkeling? Tioman Island in Malaysia is definitely a great choice, with many businesses offering scuba diving certification. Most hotels in Tioman Island are equivalent to domestic guesthouses, but if conditions permit, you can stay at Kapalai Island or Mabul Island.
From Kuala Lumpur to Tawau, it takes about 3 hours by flight. If you book Kapalai, there are airport pick-up and pier transfer services available.
If staying in a regular town, be sure to ask about the airport transfer fee and the snorkeling fee.
Mataking Island has two islands, big and small. The water on the small island is clearer. You can snorkel but not go to the island. The small Mataking Island is a private island.

From the far and near Mabul Island, the Spartan Platform Extreme Dive Resort next to it is becoming more and more clear, and the excitement in the heart is inevitable. Get to the bottom of the platform, how to face such a high platform? Only through the simple electric lifting platform, the lifting platform does not have any protective devices, because they also jump directly from this diving, so it is impossible to install protective devices. As the elevator slowly rose, we finally came to the legendary Spartan Platform Extreme Dive Resort. The staff standing on both sides of the uniform costumes gave us a warm welcome, helped with the luggage and asked us to have lunch first. The resort fee includes three meals a day, afternoon tea and so on. Start at 8:00 every day, lunch starts at 12 o'clock, dinner starts at 7 o'clock, and afternoon tea is at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. Drinks, milk, mineral water, and pudding are all available 24 hours a day. In the hot summer, how can there be no ice cream, there is also ice cream supply here, directly to the front desk, then the money will be recorded in the account, leaving it together to settle, it is super convenient. The first floor of the platform is mainly a public area, which is mainly divided into diving equipment area, cafeteria and leisure area, and office.

Islands you must visit in Semporna
📍Attraction Address: This island is Mataking Island, as shown in picture five. I would call it the MVP. It's really beautiful, no filter, very blue, like a fairyland.
🚗Attraction Transportation: You can join a group to go snorkeling or diving on the island. It's particularly easy to see turtles while diving here. I recommend joining a yacht tour for a more enjoyable experience.
👍️Must-visit Attraction: The place we went for lunch at noon is called Pom Pom Island, which is also very beautiful, as shown in picture one.
🎟️Ticket Information: It costs about 1000💰 per person. If I remember correctly, it should be called Tianyu.
💗Other Tips: The crew on the yacht will sing and dance. The service is very good.

Bucket list: 6 things you must do in Semporna
Release a baby sea turtle
Watch the Bajau people rowing their boats
Take photos on the sandbar
Stay in a water villa
Snorkeling in Mataking
Bargain at the seafood market
-
❤️ Release a baby sea turtle
Resorts like Mataking, White Pearl, and Dragon Pearl have their own sea turtle conservation bases. When baby sea turtles hatch, the resort will notify you of the release time the next day. You can participate and watch the baby sea turtles run towards the sea. It's very healing.
-
❤️ Watch the Bajau people rowing their boats
You can stay in MWB water villa or join the Kapalai + Mabul Island island hopping day tour. You can see the small wooden boats sailing on the jelly sea, carrying seafood and coconuts. Take a set of "seafood stalls" cultural photos. Coconuts are about 5 Malaysian Ringgit each.
-
❤️ Take photos on the sandbar
There are two island hopping routes. The Mataking 3 Islands route goes to Timba Timba Sandbar, and the Tun Sakaran Marine Park route goes to Warship Island Sandbar. If you stay at Mataking Resort, you can also go to their private sandbar, which is even more beautiful.
-
❤️ Stay in a water villa
Stay in a secluded wooden house on the sea. Take photos on the flower-filled wooden plank road, watch the sunset and stars on the balcony. It's romantic and comfortable, but you must stay in a water villa with good water quality. Otherwise, snorkeling is not worth it, and photos are not good. The ceiling of Semporna water villa: Kapalai
-
❤️ Snorkeling in Mataking
If you don't have a diving certificate, you can go snorkeling in Mataking. There are many fish, sea turtles, and corals. The sea is very clear. It's a feast for the eyes! Island hopping route: Mataking 3 Islands
-
❤️ Bargain at the seafood market
Take a bunch of seafood you've bargained for to the restaurant for processing. It's very rewarding. You can put down your "i" and bargain with your voice. When the local black people get angry, they will speak some random Chinese words. You are beautiful, but you have no money...

Mabul Island Resort: A Tropical Paradise
#travellerswonderland
Mabul Island Resort, nestled in the heart of the Semporna archipelago, is a tropical paradise that offers an unforgettable experience. As a blogger, I was fortunate enough to spend a few days at this luxurious resort and was captivated by its natural beauty and exceptional hospitality.
Upon arrival, I was greeted by the warm smiles of the friendly staff and treated to a refreshing welcome drink. My overwater bungalow was a sight to behold, with stunning views of the crystal-clear turquoise waters and lush greenery. The spacious room was equipped with modern amenities and a private balcony that provided the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the breathtaking scenery.
One of the highlights of my stay was the opportunity to explore the vibrant coral reefs surrounding Mabul Island. The resort's dive center offers a variety of diving and snorkeling excursions, catering to both beginners and experienced divers. I was amazed by the diversity of marine life, including colorful fish, sea turtles, and even a few sharks. The underwater world was a magical experience that I will never forget.
In addition to diving and snorkeling, the resort also offers other activities such as kayaking, paddleboarding, and island hopping. I enjoyed exploring the nearby islands and discovering hidden coves and beaches. The tranquility and serenity of the surroundings were truly breathtaking.
The resort's restaurant served delicious food, with a variety of international and local dishes to choose from. The fresh seafood was particularly noteworthy, with dishes like grilled fish and lobster being highlights. The restaurant also offered stunning views of the ocean, making it a perfect place to enjoy a meal.
Overall, my stay at Mabul Island Resort was an unforgettable experience. The resort's luxurious accommodations, stunning natural beauty, and exceptional service made it a truly special place. If you're looking for a tropical paradise to relax and recharge, I highly recommend Mabul Island Resort.

Mabul Island's Clear Waters
One of the most beautiful seascapes in my mind is Mabul Island in Malaysia. Before our trip, there was a kidnapping incident, but since we had already planned our itinerary early on, we decided to proceed as scheduled.
Mabul Island is located in East Malaysia. Due to some territorial disputes with the Philippines, there have been incidents of tourists being kidnapped. The Bajau people here are known as the sea gypsies; they have no nationality and live on the sea. As you can see in the picture, the entire sea area here is crystal clear. Our daily activities included snorkeling or diving once in the morning and once in the afternoon, and in the evening, the locals would sing while we danced. The wooden cabins provided three meals a day. The meals were pretty much the same every day, mainly fried big fish, which was quite dry. The first time I ate it, I thought it was delicious, but after a few meals, it became quite tiresome. Fortunately, the locals would sell lobsters, each costing less than 200 HKD. After purchasing them, you could ask the cabin staff to cook them for you.
Whether the marine life in this area is the best is subjective, but it is probably the place where I have seen the most sea turtles. You can basically see them around the wooden cabins at night.

Madai Recreation Forest
#myhiddengems
Away from the noise of the city ..this is one of the place you can find peace & enjoy the pleasant smell of the scent of the forest.
Nice place to visit. Maybe you can eat your meals while watching the waterfall. I visit this place when I have a trip from Kudat to Tawau and we stopped here for our lunch. But bring your own foods. Visitors will have to view from the wooden staircase vantage point.
