Taichung is the economic, cultural and communications center of Taiwan. There are many famous historical sites and ruins, as well as cultural venues here, and it has always had the fine reputation of a “city of culture.” You can take a leisurely stroll through the picturesque scenic areas of Tunghai University campus to experience the spirit of youth and take photos at the uniquely designed Luce Memorial Chapel to remember your trip. Those who like art and history can stroll about in Caihongjuan’s Rainbow Village. The vibrant art and colorful graffiti painted on these military veterans’ houses is unique and special, and is an excellent place to take souvenir photos. If you want to enjoy natural scenery, you can go for a hike in the emerald green Dakeng Scenic Area or the Gaomei Wetlands. Visitors craving delicious food should not miss the mouthwatering sweets of Miyahara, especially since its interior has been redecorated to look like Hogwarts from “Harry Potter”, as well as all the local snacks of Taiwan at the popular Fengjia Night Market.

Absolutely stunning opera house~ A great place for photography and strolling~.
I have to say, when I arrived here,
I was truly amazed!
The unique architectural design,
with its smooth curves both inside and out, without any sharp 'corners',
all the photos above are from the free areas.
The staircase gets narrower as you go higher,
and you can see directly down to the first floor,
which really makes your legs feel weak as you climb...
But once you reach the top floor, it's a whole different world!
Still beautiful, perfect for night photography!
The whole place feels very clean~
At night, there are many photography enthusiasts taking pictures,
and every shot looks great!

GAOMEI WETLANDS in Taiwan is one of best location for sunset viewing. Recommended to be around 5.30pm to 7pm to catch the best moments of sunset view. as well check out the boardwalk path to see variety of wetlands birds, insects and animals. Gaomei Wetlands, also known as the Kaomei Wetlands, officially Gaomei Wetland Preservation Area, is a wetland in Qingshui District.
The scenery at the wetland is awesome. See mudcrab, seasonal birds with nice natural view. It is good to get away from busy city and get close to nature. Should go there when you visited Taichung! The wind is cold especially during Winter so do cover up. Worth a trip here.

Taichung Sunsets: Chasing the Golden Hour in Taiwan
Taichung is an attractive city that has a much more chill vibes than Taipei. It is a convenient location to get to many other attractions in Chiayi and Alishan
Getting There: You can take a high soeed rail from Taipei. Personally find that public transport is not as robust as Taipei and also Gaomei wetlands is abit far out. Recommend joining a day tour to maximise time.
Food: Best night market in Taichung is Feng Chia Night market with plenty of food options, Also remember to try the famous Sun cakes in Taichung.
Itinerary:
1.
Gaomei Wetlands
Highlights - This place is especially famous and popular to see the stunning sunset and recommend to be there 1 hour before sunset to get a spot and see the wetlands before high tide. You can see crabs and mudskippers. Far from city so will need a cab or half day tour.
2.
Rainbow village
Highlights - Beautifully painted village, hand painted by an old grandpa, formerly a residential area for military people. Colourful and vibrant village.
3.
National Theatre
Highlights - Beautiful architecture and relaxing space where you can chill. There are many small shops selling souvenir and craft items there. Features to see include the butterfly deco on the roof and giant ear in the park opposite.
4.
Miyahara
Highlights - Beautiful building and shop which sells delicious gelato and beautiful biscuits and chocolates. Recommend trying the tea flavour gelato in waffle cup!
5.
Chun Shui Tang
Highlights - Visited the original store and this is claimed to be the founding place of pearl milk tea. Had a enjoyable cup of bubble tea and some snacks in the shop, atmosphere was good and milk tea was fragrant. There are multiple outlets im Taichung.

Delicious Taichung BBQ Brand Lao Jing Opens New Branch in Taipei - Lao Jing Xinyi Store.
Unboxing the Taipei Lao Jing Store, located near A13 in Xinyi District, finally came to eat.
Easy to book a table, compared to Taichung. One day at work, I really wanted to eat, so I booked a table on a whim. Although you still need to book a month in advance for weekends.
Lao Jing set for two is 4,090 TWD, a few hundred more than in Taichung, but still acceptable.
30cm beef tongue needs to be pre-ordered, great for photos. Also, tried all varieties of beef tongue, highly recommended for different textures.
You can skip the beef tongue soup, it's just pure beef soup. The chicken soup is better.
Although the seating is cramped, with only one small stove for a six-person table, it's not suitable for large groups. However, in terms of quality, there's not much difference from the Taichung store. If you're too lazy to go to Taichung, it's a good option! The brand quality is still there.
Personally, I still rate it higher than Uma. The chicken soup flavor is still good, and the wagyu sushi is quite delicious. Additionally, some meats are grilled by the staff, and they even help peel shrimp, which is a plus.
Moreover, there's a membership card app you can download to accumulate points for free meat.
Transportation tips:
City Hall or Xiangshan Station, walk to A13 across Songren Road, under Ichiran Ramen B1 Plaza. If it rains, remember to take the sky bridge from City Hall, it's closer.
Address: B1, No. 101, Songren Road, Xinyi District, Taipei City
The Drifter's Forest Music Festival: A Perfect Blend of Band Listening and Camping in Taichung, Taiwan
Held annually from November to December, the Drifter's Forest Music Festival is entering its fourth year. Located in the bald cypress forest next to Lihpao Land in Taichung, this festival offers a unique experience compared to other summer camping music festivals that are often plagued by extreme heat and heavy rain (Fuji Rock, are you listening?). The mild temperatures and lower rainfall of central Taiwan in late autumn make it an ideal time to relax under the warm autumn sun, lying on the grass with a beer in hand—super chill!
One of the organizers, who works in the design industry, puts a lot of thought into the overall visual image of the event each year. The venue is creatively decorated, and the food and cultural stalls feature famous shops from all over Taiwan, making it a great place to eat, take photos, and shop. Even though you might find the same breakfast shop near your home, enjoying it at the music festival adds a special touch of familiarity. Notably, if you choose the FullSet camping package, you will receive a limited-edition medal designed by the organizers to hang on your tent—an exclusive, non-sale souvenir!
As for the lineup, the organizers are very sincere, inviting popular bands to join the event every year. Bands like Accusefive, Cosmos People, Flesh Juicer, and Lo Sirong Band are regulars here. In 2023, they even invited the rapidly rising band 'Sheep Literature,' known for their ending theme song for Jujutsu Kaisen, bringing a new vibe to the festival with their cool noise shoegaze style.
For those planning to camp, it's recommended to drive yourself and park in the Lihpao Land parking lot. During the day, you can also explore the large outlet mall. If you want to fully relax and be lazy, you can easily settle all three meals here without having to cook—camping made easy!

First Visit After Relocation
Address: No. 459, Section 3, Fuxing Road, South District, Taichung City
Atmosphere/Facilities: This is my first time visiting the new location. I've dined at their two other branches in Taichung and had a great impression. I didn't realize the cultural and creative store had relocated since it's near the original spot. Initially, I didn't notice the change, but upon entering, I was surprised to see that dining has moved to the second floor. The space is much larger, and the business is booming, making it quite noisy, unlike the relaxed atmosphere of the old store.
Specialty: The dishes are creative cuisine and still delicious.
Average Price: 300-500 TWD
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Worth visiting occasionally for the food.
This Year's Best Italian Restaurant

Atmosphere/Facilities: You might miss this place if you're not looking for it. The interior is small with only 6-7 tables, but the dining atmosphere is great thanks to the friendly and professional staff. Everything from the menu to the tableware is thoughtfully prepared.
Features: The dishes are different from the Italian cuisine I've had before. The sauces, side dishes, pasta, and portions are all carefully crafted. The desserts are especially charming and not to be missed.
Average Price: 350-600 TWD
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
A place I'd love to visit again and again, definitely on my list of favorites~ya

Exploring Taichung: Century-Old Western Building with Delicious Food and a Chic Café
|Taichung. Central District|
Opened just last December, 'HAUSINC 1035' is located on Shifu Road. The café retains the two-story Western-style building that used to be a clinic, featuring high wooden beams inside. The name includes the phone number 1035 to distinguish it from other branches.
The menu focuses on light meals and desserts. This time, we tried the savory pie, brunch, and pudding. We loved everything, especially the pudding served in vintage porcelain teacups, which perfectly matched the café's ambiance. The pudding was soft, creamy, and had a rich egg flavor, with caramel at the bottom adding a slight bitterness without being overly sweet—absolutely delightful! The breakfast plate with sourdough bread was also a favorite. The only downside was the menu listed 'Italian sausage,' which we expected to be like Salami or German sausage, but it tasted more like Chinese sausage. Despite visiting on a weekend, the place wasn't crowded, and the spacious environment made for a comfortable dining experience. Both indoor and outdoor seating are highly recommended.

Exploring Taichung: Memory Maker - 50-Year-Old Hardware Store Café
While wandering near the Model Market in Taichung, I stumbled upon 'BeanGood Café,' which started as a coffee cart and has now become a street-side shop. The café retains the traditional hand-painted signboard of the old hardware store, giving it a retro and charming vibe. The open space is perfect for relaxing, daydreaming, or chatting after a stroll along the Greenway. Besides their popular house-roasted beans, their cinnamon rolls are also a hit.
This time, I tried the limited edition #MilletWineCoffee. It was slightly sweet but overall fresh-tasting. The alcohol content is low, so you can taste a hint of millet wine without getting drunk. The owner mentioned that their #Tiramisu is made with tofu, so I had to try it. The texture isn't as creamy as mascarpone cheese, but it makes the dessert feel light and refreshing. The taste is quite similar, and I highly recommend giving it a try.

The seafood is fresh and delicious, and the peeled shrimp is a bonus.
Portions are not large, so men might need a second round to feel full.
We ordered extra chicken wings later, but since it was over the 90-minute dining limit, we took them to go.
However, the staff was very friendly and didn't make us feel pressured.
The takeout chicken wings were also delicious! Highly recommended!
Parking is difficult on weekends, which might be the only downside, so you might have to walk a bit.
But it's a very comfortable place, and we would love to visit again.

Experience at Taichung's Ruins-Style Hotel
During my trip to Taipei, I made a side trip to Taichung and accidentally booked the last room at SOF Plant Light Garden Hotel for less than 500 HKD per night, which is a great value. This unique hotel embodies the authentic ruins hotel style, truly illustrating the experience of art and nature combined. For those who are brave and not afraid of the dark, this is worth considering❗️
💞Reasons to Recommend:
【Explore Unique Aesthetics】
Designed by New Zealand architectural firm Fearon Hay, SOF Plant Light Garden Hotel retains the weathered and decayed style of a 1950s building while incorporating wild plant elements, reflecting Taichung's recent trend of returning to the original intentions in old building renovations.
SOF Plant Light Garden Hotel stands out with its unconventional design, skillfully blending historical traces with modern creativity. Exposed brick walls and raw concrete surfaces tell the story of time, while the greenery adds vitality to the industrial space. It's not just a place to stay but a hidden oasis of tranquility in the bustling city.
【Low Carbon Sustainability】
The hotel has also received a local low-carbon hotel certificate, and its operations are very eco-friendly. Besides not proactively providing disposable items, guests need to bring their own mugs to the water dispenser on each floor. The natural lighting in the atrium allows plants to grow freely and helps regulate the microclimate in the guest rooms.
【Convenient Location】
📍Address: No. 52, Guangfu Road, Central District, Taichung City, Taiwan, 400
The hotel is just a few steps away from Taichung Train Station, located in the old town area. The surrounding area has many Southeast Asian immigrants, making it an easy choice for tasting authentic food and exploring city culture.
💰Average Cost: The hotel offers great value for money. When booking, it was less than 500 HKD per night. Interested friends should give it a try.
Taichung Station 🚉
Taichung Station is a major transportation hub in central Taiwan, seamlessly connecting the city to various parts of the country through its efficient rail and bus networks. The station is split into two main sections: the historic Old Taichung Station and the modern New Taichung Station, both offering unique experiences.
Historic Old Taichung Station:
• Architecture: The Old Taichung Station, built during the Japanese colonial period, features beautiful baroque-style architecture. The red-brick facade, ornate details, and classic design make it a nostalgic and picturesque landmark.
• Atmosphere: Stepping into the Old Station feels like a journey back in time. It’s relatively quieter, offering a peaceful contrast to the bustling new section. The historical charm and well-preserved features make it a favorite spot for photography and leisurely strolls.
Modern New Taichung Station:
• Architecture: The New Taichung Station is a stark contrast with its sleek, contemporary design. The expansive glass windows, modern facilities, and spacious interiors cater to the needs of today’s travelers.
• Facilities: The station is equipped with a wide range of amenities, including numerous ticket counters, waiting areas, restrooms, convenience stores, and a variety of dining options. The clear signage and helpful staff make navigating the station straightforward.
• Connectivity: The New Station efficiently connects to local buses, taxis, and the high-speed rail, making it easy to travel to other parts of Taichung and beyond. The integration with the city’s public transportation system ensures smooth transit for commuters and tourists alike.
Experience:
• Arrival: Upon arriving at Taichung Station, I was immediately impressed by the seamless blend of old and new. The transition from the historic charm of the Old Station to the modern conveniences of the New Station was smooth and well-organized.
• Facilities and Services: The facilities were clean and well-maintained. The availability of luggage storage services and numerous seating areas was particularly convenient for travelers with heavy bags or those needing a rest.
• Dining: The station offered a variety of dining options, from quick bites to sit-down meals. I enjoyed a delicious meal at one of the local eateries, where the staff were friendly and the food was fresh and tasty.
• Accessibility: Both the Old and New Stations were easily accessible, with clear signs in multiple languages. Elevators and escalators were available, making it easy to navigate with luggage or for those with mobility issues.
Highlights:
• The architectural beauty and historical significance of the Old Taichung Station.
• The modern amenities and efficient services at the New Taichung Station.
• The seamless connectivity to various transportation modes.
• The friendly and helpful staff who made the experience pleasant.
