#HotOverseasPlaces
Marrakech is a city located in the west of Morocco, and was once the imperial capital.
It is now thriving as an economic center.
Marrakech itself is divided into the old town (medina) and the new town.
The new town was built by the French.
The old town Medina district, crowded with people and buildings, is a medieval city with the remains of the Berber imperial wall.
It was registered as a World Heritage Site in 1985.

The city of Marrakech is 2km east to west and 3km north to south. It is surrounded by a wall and once flourished as the largest Islamic trading city in North Africa.
There is a souk (market) in the labyrinthine alleys, where all kinds of things are sold, such as food, daily necessities, clothing, carpets, precious metals, leatherwork, pottery, iron and copper, etc.

Be careful, as narrow alleys spread out in all directions and you will quickly get lost as you walk through the alleys that keep on growing.
Many shops are crowded into the dark, winding narrow alleys, and many people come and go, with motorcycles, cars and carts constantly running. 8•9•10
Jemaa el Fna Square
The square is part of the old town that is registered as a World Heritage Site, and in 2009, the "Cultural Space of Jemaa el Fna Square" was registered as a World Intangible Heritage Site.
The square, whose name means "Meeting Place of the Dead" in Arabic, used to be the place where public executions were held.
The 400m square is lined with orange juice stands and souvenir shops, and is lively with performances by street performers such as snake charmers.
