If you are in Sicily you can’t avoid trying the local food, which is amazing! Some of the top things to try: 1. Cannoli - one of the main Sicilian desserts, a waffle tube which is filled with ricotta cheese! 2. Pasta dishes - the main dish in Italy 😁 3. Pizza 🍕- a must have 4. Sicilian meat rolls- meat is filled with cheese and bread crumbs 5. Gelato ice cream 🍨- Palermo is an ice cream hometown. Ice-cream here has hundreds of flavors and it’s very delicious! 6. Sea food- it’s fresh and super tasty. 7. Limoncello- the main drink in Sicily. 8. Lemonade- try the local drink, it’s sweet and sour, full of lemons 🍋. Food is a very important part of a trip! It definitely helps to understand the local culture in a better way. And also it opens your horizons to something new and wonderful! #timetotravel

Sicily is a lovely beach destination with beaches all around the corner at every little town. These beaches are laid back and accessible but keep in mind some of them are private ones. The water is often crystal clear and the temperature is very nice. A truly Italian summer experience, heading to the beaches on a nice hot day is a relaxing and fun experience. You can visit the ancient ruins of Valley of the Temples in Agrigento to the majestic Mount Etna which is Europe’s highest active volcano. It’s quite an exciting place to celebrate a foodie’s dream with mouth watering street foods from cities like Palermo and Catania. Love the beaches and island as well.

#getgoing2025 Sicily welcomed me with open arms, offering a perfect mix of history, vibrant culture, and incredible food. As I wandered through the romantic narrow streets of Catania and Taormina, I felt like I’d stepped into a classic Italian film. The cobblestone alleys, colorful balconies draped with flowers, and small family-run cafes created an atmosphere full of charm and intimacy. The island’s iconic Mount Etna dominated the skyline, its snow-capped peak visible from many places. While I didn’t visit it personally, locals spoke of its majesty and the unique volcanic soil that gives Sicilian produce its exceptional flavor. The food was another highlight of my trip. I fell in love with pasta alla Norma, the perfect balance of tomato, eggplant, and salty ricotta salata. Sicilian pizza, with its thick crust and bold toppings, was equally unforgettable. For dessert, a fresh cannoli from a local pastry shop was the ultimate treat. Sicily felt safe and inviting throughout my stay. The locals were incredibly warm, always ready to share a story or help with directions. My advice to travelers? Take time to explore on foot, lose yourself in the winding streets, and embrace the slower pace of life. Sicily isn’t just a destination—it’s a place where the soul of Italy shines brightest.

Palermo, the capital of Sicily, is a port city located in the northwest of the island. Sicily is located southwest of the Apennine Peninsula, near the Tyrrhenian Sea's Gulf of Palermo. It is the largest island in the Mediterranean and the largest city in Sicily. It is also a natural harbor with a rugged terrain. Palermo Cathedral was built in 1184 and completed in the 18th century. It is a fusion of many architectural styles. In 1184, the bishop began to build a Norman church on the site of a mosque. In the 13th century, it was influenced by Gothic architecture, and in the 15th century, it incorporated Spanish architectural styles. The Gothic double spire windows and arches, the Catalan-style porch and columns, and the Muslim-style geometric patterns of the apse are all perfectly integrated. The interior of the church is a Norman-style semicircular hall, which is large and empty. It is the burial place of the Norman royal family. The underground treasure house displays a variety of jewelry, all of which belonged to Queen Costanza di Aragon. After visiting Palermo Cathedral, head to the Italian restaurant La Galleria in the alley behind it. The restaurant serves delicious seafood pasta in large portions that will not disappoint.

Food in Italy was basic.

Sicily is one of the most beautiful islands around and is ideal for a road trip. It's also the first place I drove a car abroad which I thought would be pretty daunting but I definitely don't regret it. Based in the small fishing town of Riposto, I used this as a great base to explore the island and it's beauties. Night one I went to a local restaurant for a delicious carbonara before retiring to bed after a long day of travel. Day 1 and I went to the beautiful village of Taormina via the cable car (picture 2), trying local Cannoli and then navigating the tight streets and their shop windows in Castelmola, filled by the most striking sunset views (picture 3). Not to be missed! Day 2 and I went back to Taormina to have a walk over to the tiny island of Isola Bella on the causeway (picture 4). I just timed it wrong, as the tide was about to come in and I had the wrong footwear! I then stopped at a local beach restaurant for antipasti and went back to base for some rest, as it was a hot day. Day 3 I took on more of the coastal sights featuring Acicastello Castle (picture 5) and stopped in Naxos for an Aperol Spritz and nibbles. Day 4 and I went over to Syracuse for the Teatro Greco (picture 6) and stopped in the coastal town of Ortigia. Day 5 was very much a foodie affair - venturing over to Giardini Naxos for lasagne, gelato and arancini on the beach (picture 7) Day 6 and I took a long drive over to Agrigento to see the unmissable temples (picture 1). A visit to Sicily is not complete without understanding the Greek influence and seeing all the delightful temples. Day 7, and after the night before visiting the local restaurant again and a final slice of Italian cuisine, it was time to head back. My top tips: - DEFINITELY hire a car in Sicily, you'll be stuck without one to be honest - Italian drivers are not scary but they do have conviction, move out of the way for faster drivers and don't assume they will always follow the rules - Bring good walking shoes to allow you to see the sights! - Embrace local culture! - Learning to hold a basic conversation or greetings in Italian will go a very long way with the locals #100waysoftravel #roadtrips

A perfect romantic summer getaway that offers an abundance of things to do for every kind of traveller. Beaches are an important aspect of a fine summer holiday. And it happens so that one of the best things about this island is indeed its amazing beaches. With more than a thousand kilometers of coastline, there’s no shortage of secluded, exclusive and picturesque pebbly coves and sandy stretches. A personal favourite is Spiaggia di San Vito Lo Capo which boasts a long strip of soft white sand and some of the kost transparent waters I’ve ever seen! But there is a lot more to Sicily than just it's beaches. Sicily is home to some incredible picture perfect towns. You could admire the baroque churches of Ragusa Ibla, stroll along the charming waterfront promenades in Ortigia, or relax at the medieval seaside resort Cefalu. I also highly recommend visiting a small fishing village called Marzamemi, one of the many hidden gems in Sicily. With its vibrantly decorated houses, beautiful beachside restaurants, and quaint piazzas, this place just can’t get more idyllic! Another reason to visit Sicily is its food. The island offers an exciting culinary scene with lots of local specialties such as arancini, cannoli and granita which you simply can’t miss! Also, the pasta dishes in Sicily are just phenomenal. For a unique dinner experience, try spaghetti with squid ink. If you’re up for some hiking, the very popular climb of Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe.
