#kayak #100waysoftravel #kuching #borneo #sarawak #river We decided to go kayaking at Kampung Semadang on our previous off day, and despite the gloomy weather, it turned out to be perfect for outdoor activities, with a cool breeze that made the experience even more enjoyable. Sunblock and insect repellent were still essentials, though. The kayaking adventure at Kampung Semadang, located about 45 minutes' drive from Kuching, is a must-try for nature lovers. For around RM 150 per person, the package typically includes a guided tour, kayak rental, safety gear, and a light meal. As we paddled along the serene river, our friendly local guide led us through the lush rainforest, pointing out interesting flora and fauna. We even made a stop at a hidden waterfall, where we couldn't resist dipping into the icy water. It was a refreshing and memorable adventure, blending the tranquility of nature with a bit of thrilling fun. Kampung Semadang is easy to reach by car or taxi, and the experience is well worth the drive for a day filled with natural beauty and adventure.

Sarawak, the Land of the Hornbills, there is so much more Sarawak can offer than what meets the eye. Home to 31 ethnic groups, Sarawak is a unique plethora of culture, adventure, nature, food, and festivals (CANFF). It is the place where the journey of endless exploration starts. Sarawak has a whopping 56 totally protected areas, 37 gazetted national parks, five wildlife sanctuaries and 14 nature reserves. It’s rainforests are the size of Austria. The hornbill, proboscis monkey and the orangutan are some of the most awe-inducing fauna in Sarawak. Its rainforests house the world’s richest and most diverse ecosystems. Jong Crocodile Farm - Serian

Located approximately 30km from Kuching is Jong’s Crocodile Farm. It is located on the Kuching-Serian Road and was the next place I visited after visiting the orang utans in Semenggoh Wildlife Centre. I have read about this crocodile farm in sixthseal and the tourist guides. I have always been interested in reptiles especially snakes and crocodiles so this was not to be missed. Do you know crocodiles are actually living dinosaurs? They are the toughest survivor and many have predicted they will still be around after men’s extinction. That’s why they fascinate me so much. Entrance fee for adult is RM8 and RM4 for children under 12. The best time to visit is of course during feeding times at 11am and 3pm daily, you wouldn’t want to miss all the crocodile actions! I love relaxing here, finding peace of mind in the tranquil surroundings of the forest, with trees all around and the sound of birds, which creates a wonderful experience. I prefer visiting in the morning, as the warm bath leaves me feeling refreshed for the day. The best part of this hot spring, featuring a large wooden roof that provides shelter from the sun and rain. It allows visitors to enjoy the open-air hot spring in any weather. #hotsprings

One of the iconic hot spring in kuching - Kampung Panchor Hot Spring

This hot spring retreat is approximately an hour drive from Kuching town, near Serian town. The entrance fee right now (sept 2024) is rm7 and it is well set up with wooden seats, has a small grocery shop in it too and other common facilities e.g washroom. You will feel refreshed after a warm bath in the hot spring.

Semenggoh Wildlife Centre

#travellerswonderland It's basically open sanctuary for Orang Utan feeding. The park is exposed to the open forest for Orang Utan to come over for the food. Feeding time is on two sessions, starting at 8am in the morning and second session in the afternoon 2pm. You may get lucky enough to see Orang Utan come over for the food. There are few feeding stations in the park, will need to hike to those stations. From the registration counter and ticket, you can either walk to the feeding station or take the buggy shuttle bus with some charges. Very low chances to see Orang Utan during the rainy day because they may just stay in their shelter. Registration pretty well managed by scanning the QR code at the counter to your phone then present to the counter officer and make the payment of the ticket. There few rangers will prepare the food to the feeding stations and also give some briefing to visitors. There are clean public toilets too.

Ban Buan Kukuot Waterfall: Amazing Mother Nature

The hike was not tough however you need a Kampung Adidas as some part of the journey is quite slippery. The waterfall was magnificent, the breeze and the water was so cold at that area. Best place to destress and enjoy the mother nature. 1. 5 hour drive from Kuching town to Saloma Homestay. Parking is provided.

Serikin; A shopping haul

spend the Gawai Holiday retreated to Kuching, Pasar Serikin and finding good foods around the city. In Pasar Serikin, we got there early and there were a lot of things to shop, but the prices were a little bit pricey compare to a few years a ago. We where there for 4 hours to complete 2 rounds of shopping and by the times we went homes people were still arrived even though it rain cat and dog.

Semenggoh Wildlife Centre - A safe home for Orang Utan

It's an exciting experience to see Orang Utan not in the cage and we are lucky to see at least 5 of them. One alpha, Edwin, the mommy and the baby, teenager orang utan and etc.. it's funny to observe their movement and action. The rangers explained to us about their stories and there is a small gallery with some explanation and also exhibits too. I strongly recommend those who visit Kuching to pop by Semenggoh Wildlife Centre for this unique experience!#orangutan #semenggohwildlifecenter

Close encounter with orang utans

Just a 30-minute drive from Kuching, the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre was established in the 1970s as a sanctuary for the rehabilitation of rescued orangutans. Those apes - and their offspring - have grown into a semi-wild colony that lives freely in the 250-acre reserve. When fruit is scarce in the trees, between March and October, they return to special feeding platforms. While there are no guarantees, there's a high chance you'll see some of the orangutans descend from the trees to feed. It was a unique experience to be up close with the orangutans. You can see that they are well protected and even though they are being fed, some of them prefer hiding in the jungle to fend for themselves. For those visiting Sarawak, this is one of the few wildlife reserves that you need to check it out and it is easily accessible from Kuching city. Transport: There’s a direct bus to Semenggoh from Kuching. From Mosque Road in Kuching, take City Public Link bus, number K6 which stops at the Ticketing Booth of Semenggoh Nature Reserve. If you’re heading to the morning feeding session, the bus leaves at 7:15am. Arrive early, as it departs promptly or even a few minutes early. The bus fare cost is RM 4.00 each way. A wildlife Centre!

Semenggoh Wildlife Centre is one of three orangutan rehabilitation centres in Malaysia where you can see semi-wild orang-utans in natural forest. It is one of the most popular attractions in Sarawak and is highly accessible from Kuching. Located abour 20KM or 45 minutes from Kuching city, there is a natural habitat which acts as a home to Orangutans. The Semenggoh Wildlife Centre is by far the biggest Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in Sarawak. It was established as a sanctuary for Orangutans who are injured, orphaned or being kept captive as illegal pets. Currently, the centre serves as a habitat for the Orangutans and also a place for visitors to learn about the endangered rare species. This wildlife centre has a thriving population of healthy adolescent and young adult semi-wild Orangutans. They spend most of their time roaming the forest but are trained to get back to the centre during feeding times where they will be able to get a free meal from the caretakers. Though they have been trained to get back to the centre during feeding time, they may not appear to get a free meal during the forest fruiting season. As at today, there are over twenty Orangutans living at Semenggoh and the forest reserves carrying capacity has been reached. Sarawak’s orangutan rehabilitation activities have now been transferred to Matang Wildlife Centre but Semenggoh remains the best place in Sarawak to get up-close with orangutan. The best time to visit is during the morning and afternoon feeding sessions. These take place daily at 9am and 3pm respectively. It is a good idea to reach the centre before the feeding commences. Sometimes the orangutan come out early and hang out around. If you are there early you may get a chance to watch them before they move to the feeding platform.
