A Scenic Shaolin Adventure: From Cable Cars to Geological Wonders
#chinatrip #100waysoftravel #shaolin #dengfeng
When visiting Shaolin Temple, taking the Shaolin cable car is a must. Due to our limited time and energy, we only hiked up to "Gaoshan Lansheng" before heading back. However, from there, we could already see the distant "Sanhuangzhai." We also got to see the "Shu Ce Cliff," a landmark we had long wanted to visit. This famous site earned its name because Mount Song has been submerged by the sea 4-5 times and, along with geological shifts, has created rock formations resembling rows of books on a shelf.
There's a small snack stall on the mountain with reasonably priced food. I found their hot dry noodles incredibly satisfying—just perfect for my taste!

Currently, the Shaolin Temple is protected by the state and is open to tourists. It is one of the most famous symbols of China and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
UNESCO recognized the ancient buildings of the monastery and its role in spreading Zen Buddhism and martial arts in Japan, Korea and many other countries as valuable for the history of mankind. Shaolin Temple is the most famous temple in China, it is rightfully called the "cradle of Zen Buddhism". The kind of Buddhism that originated in this historical place places special importance on both martial arts training and Zen meditation. This type of meditation, practiced in Japan, appeared here, in the Shaolin Monastery.
Shaolin monks had a great influence on the spread of Buddhism and martial arts in Korea and Japan. Much more than in China itself, where many styles of martial arts, religions and philosophies coexisted.
Shaolin was founded by an Indian named Bato. Around 495, with the support of the emperor, who approved his teachings, the construction of the legendary complex began.
Another Indian, known in China as Damo, arrived in the country around 526. It is known that in India he devoted a lot of time to Mahayana Buddhism. This type of Buddhist practice requires intensive training: physical exercises and martial arts, as well as teaching and meditation.
When Damo arrived at the Shaolin Temple, he criticized the monks for being weak and not proficient in any kind of martial arts. He was asked to leave the monastery. He is said to have retired and meditated in a cave for a while, after which he was accepted by other monks and the training began.

The Shaolin temple is worth visiting. I saw plenty of monks and their incredible performance and discipline. What's inspired me most about this place is like a holy place for Buddhism and I was so curious to know about their religious beliefs and way of worship.
above all, the view of the forest while going through a cable car is fantastic, it feels like a cinematic movie.
Standing at several feet's high from the earth is adventure,
Awesome place to visit. The birthplace of Kung Fu. Only a 2 hour drive from Zhengzhou,1 hour from Luoyang. The temple itself is rather small, but there is plenty of other attractions to visit. We only had a few hours but missed a few locations. Make sure to take the free cable car ride to the top of the mountain. Lots of stairs too once you get to the top but it is well worth it. There is a fun show at 5:30 pm on your way out that is a must see! The monks that study here are so impressive and the years of training to perfect their craft is remarkable! Got lots of likes on my Facebook page too!
