A Must-Try in Sapporo 🍣🦑🦐
#foodiejourney
For some of the freshest sushi in Sapporo, head to Hanamaru Sushi at the Susukino branch. Known for its high-quality ingredients and seasonal Hokkaido flavors, this spot is a favorite among locals and tourists alike.
‼️This is a popular spot, so be prepared to wait, especially during dinner hours, as it often draws a line of eager diners. Arriving early can help you avoid the peak crowds, but the wait is well worth it for sushi of this quality.

Sapporo Night View Here!
If you want to see the night view in Sapporo, I recommend the JR Tower Observatory!
The cityscape from the observatory is especially beautiful when the lights are on at night 😵
There is also a cafe where you can enjoy drinks while taking in the night view.
Although it's not a very tall tower at 38 floors, it's worth a visit.

Halloween Festival at Sapporo Odori Park 🎃

The Halloween Festival at Sapporo’s Odori Park is an annual celebration that brings a vibrant, spooky atmosphere to the city every October. With festive decorations, food stalls, and activities for all ages, Odori Park transforms into a Halloween village where families can enjoy pumpkin carving, costume contests, and trick-or-treating. A haunted maze adds a thrill for those seeking a bit of fright, while photo spots and local seasonal treats provide the perfect Halloween experience.
Located centrally in Sapporo, the festival offers a unique blend of Halloween fun with Japanese cultural twists, making it a must-visit event for locals and travelers alike.

The Best Takoyaki in Sapporo 🐙
#voyagevibes
For an amazing takoyaki experience in Sapporo, Takotohaiborusappo Tanukikoji Honten in Tanukikoji Shopping Street is a must-visit. Known for its perfectly crisp outsides and savory, tender centers, each takoyaki ball here is made with fresh ingredients, delivering a rich, satisfying umami flavor.
My top picks? The standard takoyaki with Worcester sauce for a classic taste and the scrambled eggs & cheese takoyaki for a creamy, indulgent twist.
‼️Be prepared to wait in line—this place is popular and often draws a crowd.

Susukino, Sapporo’s Vibrant District ✨
#citystroll
A stroll through Susukino, Sapporo’s vibrant entertainment district, is a unique way to experience the lively urban vibe of the city. Known for its nightlife, neon lights, and countless dining options.
Start your walk at Susukino Crossing, the heart of the area, where large billboards and bright signs light up the streets. It's one of Japan’s most famous neon districts, similar to Tokyo’s Shibuya or Osaka’s Dotonbori.
As you walk through, you'll find a wide variety of restaurants and izakayas (Japanese pubs). Susukino is famous for ramen, especially Sapporo's signature miso ramen, so stopping by one of the many ramen shops is a must. The area is also known for fresh seafood and local Hokkaido cuisine.
Explore the Tanukikoji Shopping Arcade, a covered street that has been a popular shopping spot for over a century. With souvenir shops, cafes, and boutiques, it offers a mix of modern and traditional items.

Day 1: Fly from Tokyo to Hokkaido
🍣 Dinner: Toriton Sushi Maruyama Conveyor Belt Sushi (Fresh ingredients and affordable prices)
Day 2: Sapporo 🚃 Otaru 🚃 Otaru
P3 View: Get off at Otaru and check out the seaside. There's a small path next to the famous Polar Bear Cafe where you can walk in and see the snow and sea directly.
P4 View: Keep walking to the right of the Polar Bear Cafe to reach the seaside. You have to cross a thick layer of snow, but there's a clear path made by people. Just follow the crowd!
Otaru Route: Minami-Otaru Station ➡️ Music Box Museum ➡️ Otaru Shopping Street ➡️ Otaru Canal ➡️ Mt. Tengu (We skipped part of the route due to laziness. We took a taxi from Otaru Canal to Mt. Tengu, costing 72 RMB for three people)
❗️ Otaru Tips:
1. One day is enough!
2. Highly recommend Mt. Tengu if the weather is good, it's very beautiful.
🍖 Dinner: Avoid Sumibi Yakiya (The worst BBQ I've had in Japan)
Day 3: Tanukikoji Shopping Street ➡️ Hokkaido University ➡️ Hokkaido Supermarket ➡️ Sapporo Station Shopping (This route is a bit boring)
🐟 Lunch: Shihachi Fresh Fish Shop North 24th Street

(Very delicious and affordable, recommended)
Hokkaido University: Went to the Owl Cafe, had pudding and milk (average taste)
Hokkaido Supermarket: Randomly found a large supermarket near Hokkaido University. Highly recommend visiting supermarkets in Japan! The sushi and sashimi are delicious and cheap. We originally went to collect and taste all kinds of Hokkaido milk but couldn't find them all.
❗️ Tips: If you love Hokkaido milk, head straight to Mike Stand at New Chitose Airport for a full variety.
🍜 Dinner: Ramen Ichiryuan

(Rich ramen, their specialty is ramen with scrambled eggs)
Day 4: Sleep in ➡️ Hokkaido Shrine ➡️ Sapporo Factory

Autumn Bliss at Makomanai Takino Cemetery 🍁
#autumnbeauty
I visited Makomanai Takino Cemetery in mid-October, and the vibrant autumn colors were absolutely stunning! 🍂
Tips:
🍁Mid to late October is the best time to catch the peak autumn colors.
🧣Layer up! The cold winds can make it chilly, so having extra layers will keep you comfortable.
🥾Wear comfy shoes for walking, as the grounds are large and there’s a lot to explore.
🫖If possible, visit in the morning to enjoy the quieter, more peaceful atmosphere.
🚌 How to get there:
From Sapporo Station, take the Nanboku Line to Makomanai Station, then transfer to a bus that will take you directly to the cemetery (bus lines are well-marked and frequent).

Sapporo has everything that would blow your mind about Japan all in one place. It combines the big city life and attractions of larger cities, with access to a world of nature – mountains, skiing, the rest of Hokkaido – right on your doorstep!
Sapporo is also the city which is home to Sapporo Brewery, white chocolate biscuits known as 'shiroi koibito' (白い恋人), and also as the birthplace of miso ramen.
Many types of crab are harvested and served seasonally in Sapporo like the horsehair crab, snow crab, king crab, and Hanasaki crab, with numerous dishes revolving around them!
Not forgetting to try out the curry which was superb bursting in flavours!
It is definitely a shopping heaven to many as well! Happy exploring in Sapporo!

Autumn in Hokkaido.
Autumn is the best time to see the fall foliage in Hokkaido. Here are some recommended places and activities for viewing the fall foliage:
1. Sapporo: As the capital of Hokkaido, Sapporo has many good places to see the fall foliage in autumn. You can enjoy the golden ginkgo trees at Hokkaido University, or take a cable car to Mount Moiwa to enjoy the fall foliage of Sapporo and the surrounding mountains from a high place.
2. Jozankei: This is a popular place near Sapporo for viewing the fall foliage, famous for its hot springs and autumn leaves. You can take a walk along the stream and enjoy the colorful autumn leaves.
3. Lake Toya: Lake Toya in autumn is breathtakingly beautiful. You can take a boat on the lake to enjoy the view of the maple leaves reflected in the lake, or relax in the hot springs by the lake.
4. Noboribetsu Jigokudani: In addition to the famous hot springs, the maple trees here turn red in autumn, forming a beautiful picture with the steam from the hot springs.
5. Daisetsuzan National Park: Sounkyo Gorge is the gateway to Daisetsuzan National Park. The fall foliage season here starts in September, making it one of the earliest places to see the fall foliage in Japan.
6. Lake Shikotsu: As the second deepest lake in Japan, Lake Shikotsu is very beautiful in autumn, with the reflection of the red leaves on the lake. You can take a boat or take a walk by the lake to enjoy the fall foliage.
7. Hakodate: Hakodate Park and Goryokaku Park are both good places to see the fall foliage, and they are easily accessible. Especially Goryokaku Park, when viewed from a high place, the star-shaped park is particularly beautiful against the red leaves.
8. Biei: The patchwork hills of Biei are covered with red leaves in autumn, presenting picturesque rural scenery.
9. Shiretoko: The fall foliage season in Shiretoko Peninsula starts in September. You can enjoy the earliest fall foliage here and experience the mysterious atmosphere of the primeval forest.
10. Onuma Quasi-National Park: The autumn scenery here is picturesque. You can take a boat on the lake to enjoy the view of the red leaves reflected in the lake.
When planning your trip, please note the weather changes in Hokkaido in autumn. The temperature difference between day and night may be large, so it is recommended to dress in layers and keep an eye on the weather forecast. In addition, some attractions may require advance booking or have specific best viewing times, so it is recommended to plan ahead and check the latest travel information.
After a trip to Hokkaido, my perspective on spending has completely changed.
|||Snowflakes, hot springs ♨️, sunsets 🌅, and swans - all the beauty you can imagine in winter is gathered here in snowy Hokkaido.
I strongly recommend booking hotels in advance if you're planning to visit Hokkaido‼️ Nobody told me that a night in a hot spring hotel in Hokkaido during winter could cost over 4,000 yuan 🥹🥹. If you're planning a winter trip to Hokkaido, I suggest reading this guide before you set off.
[Pre-trip Advice]
❶ Don't worry too much about language barriers. Using simple English words ➕ hand gestures is generally understandable. ❌ Avoid using long sentences. Get a translation app, and a mix of Chinese, Japanese, and English works perfectly fine‼️
❷ If you want to see snow, focus solely on Hokkaido. A 5-7 day itinerary is fine. Hokkaido is vast with a sparse population, and attractions are far apart. Public transportation can be time-consuming, so it's recommended to rent a car or join a car-sharing service with friends.
❸ It's also good to exchange some yen for use in small shops (especially ramen shops). There are currency exchange machines and counters everywhere, so don't worry. Otaru is small, 📸 but every photo captures a romantic atmosphere. It's quite expensive, so I suggest a day trip from Sapporo to Otaru! Remember to sit on the right side of the train for amazing sea views.
[Some Notes]
‼️ Don't make phone calls, video calls, or play music out loud on trains and subways. It's really, really quiet. I've seen Japanese people secretly answering calls, but it's truly rare.
‼️ Don't eat strongly flavored foods. On long-distance trips like the Shinkansen, you can buy bento boxes. Although they're cold, I can attest that they taste quite good.
[About Transportation]
Airport buses are really slow, even in good weather conditions. It takes [about an hour and a half] from Sapporo city hotels. I recommend taking the JR for return flights; for arrival, you can choose the bus 🚌.
[About Attractions]
Sapporo: Hokkaido Shrine, Odori Park, Sapporo TV Tower, Hokkaido University, Sapporo Clock Tower, Sapporo International Ski Resort ⛷️
Otaru: Otaru Sakaimachi Street, Funami Slope, Mt. Tengu, Otaru Canal
Biei: Blue Pond, Shirahige Waterfall, Biei Christmas Tree 🎄
Furano: Forest Fairy 🧚 Terrace
[Clothing Guide]
🧥 Upper body: Thermal wear + fleece-lined inner layer/down vest + long down jacket, or fleece + light down. It's about -6 to -7°C, but it doesn't feel too cold. Indoor spaces are heated.
👖 Pants: Fleece-lined thick pants or thermal underwear ➕ regular pants are sufficient.
🧣 Others: Bring gloves 🧤, hats, scarves, and earmuffs for warmth and style!
🥾 Shoes: Three must-haves for snow - waterproof, non-slip, and warm. You can buy anti-slip pads at FamilyMart and Lawson convenience stores in Sapporo.
[Itinerary Suggestions]
👉 For snow and hot springs ♨️, take the western Hokkaido route: Start from Sapporo, visit Otaru, then Lake Toya, enjoy hot springs in Noboribetsu, and return to Sapporo.
👉 For a more in-depth experience with more attractions, take the eastern route: Sapporo - Asahikawa - Biei Town - Furano - Hoshino. Attractions are far apart, so independent travelers should allow more time for transportation.
👉 If you want to visit Asahikawa Zoo 🐧, Blue Pond in Biei, or Furano area, it's recommended to rent a car 🚗. JR trains are available, but with fixed schedules. This route offers top-tier snow experiences.
Recommended for a night out in Sapporo! A specialty parfait shop with homemade ice cream.
A must-visit! The parfaits, made with homemade ice cream and seasonal fruits, are beautifully colorful.

Signature Menu!

Sapporo Art Park Museum
Located below the Namboku Line in Sapporo, this art park with a museum is too vast to explore on foot in just half a day. Renting a car would be a better option, but walking around and enjoying the scenery was also wonderful at the end of September. Starting from the museum, it was fun to explore the uphill courses one by one. It seems to be a great place for locals to go on dates. It's a place that both locals and tourists, whether foreign or domestic, would love.
Hokkaido Otaru Two-Day Two-Night Travel Guide.
This guide is suitable for friends who have limited time and only visit Sapporo and Otaru.
1️⃣Accommodation Sapporo Grand Hotel
From New Chitose Airport Station, take the Rapid Airport Line directly to Sapporo Station, and walk ten minutes to the hotel. The accommodation experience is perfect, you can walk to the city center and commercial street, there are many convenience stores around, and it is very convenient to go to the airport.
2️⃣Transportation
On the first day, around 11:00 am, take the local line from Sapporo Station with Otaru as the final stop. You can use a watermelon card to enter the station or buy a ticket at the machine. After selecting your destination, insert coins according to the displayed amount. After entering the station, be sure to take your ticket! It will be used when exiting!
If you want to get to Otaru quickly, you can take the Rapid Line. Some stations will not stop in the middle. Because we wanted to get off and see the sea, we took the Local Line (the ticket will be invalid if you get off in the middle).
Most people choose to get off at Asari Station, but you can also get off at Zenibako Station, the previous stop of Asari Station. There are fewer people, you can walk directly to the beach, and if you are hungry, you can go to 711 to buy a rice ball 77.
Next, return to Zenibako Station and take the train to Otaru. On the way back, we chose the Rapid Line, which will be faster.
3️⃣Otaru🤩
My favorite Hokkaido city, after all, the movies "Love Letter" and "First Love" were filmed here, especially romantic! The city is relatively small, one day is enough.
Get off at Minami-Otaru Station and walk down a slope for about ten minutes. Turn around to Otaru Commercial Street and walk to Otaru Station. The bus to Mount Tengu departs from the bus stop next to Otaru Station. You can buy tickets, swipe your watermelon card, or pay 240 yen by coin when you get off.
On the second day, get off at Otaru Station directly, and immediately go to Funamiseki. This whole day is for city walking, then walk from Funamiseki to Otaru Canal.
4️⃣Mount Tengu🏔️
Cable car 1600 yen for adult round trip, manual ticket purchase takes one minute. To prevent the cable car from closing early, we went up the mountain at 2:30 pm. You can wait for the blue hour on the mountain. If it snows heavily, you can wait in the window seat of the rest room. If it stops snowing, you can go out and play in the woods. You can also take a photo of the same style as "Love Letter".
5️⃣Food
Otaru Seafood Restaurant Sawazaki Suisan No. 3 Crab rice is more expensive but delicious. Very small shop.
Sapporo's soup curry must be eaten! Kinotoya Bake's milk ice cream is also super delicious!
Sapporo's European Charm! Shiroi Koibito Park.
The Snowy City of Sapporo 🌨
Sapporo is a beautiful city all year round, breaking the stereotype that it's only worth visiting in winter.
One must-visit spot in Sapporo is Shiroi Koibito Park, where you can feel the European vibe!

As a popular destination for viewing autumn leaves in Japan, Hokkaido's autumn leaves season runs from mid-September to mid-October, with leaves scattered all over the streets, mountains, and lakes. Famous autumn leaves viewing spots such as Daisetsuzan, Lake Shikotsu, and Jozankei are layered with maple leaves, ginkgo leaves, and autumn water, attracting a large number of tourists to visit.
⛺【Travel Tips】: Best time to view autumn leaves: The peak season for red maple leaves is usually from late September to mid-October, with specific times varying depending on the altitude. The autumn leaves in high-altitude areas such as Daisetsuzan enter the viewing period first, while the autumn leaves in Jozankei and Lake Shikotsu around Sapporo are a little later.
Equipment requirements: Hokkaido has a lower temperature in autumn, so it is recommended to bring a windproof jacket and warm clothes, especially when the temperature difference is large in the morning and evening. Comfortable sports shoes or hiking shoes are essential for viewing autumn leaves, as most of the scenic spots are hiking routes. Photographic equipment and spare batteries are essential.
Precautions: Most of the scenic spots have many mountain roads, so you should walk according to your ability. Some areas such as Daisetsuzan may experience low temperatures, so keep warm and check the weather forecast in advance and adjust your itinerary.
