Japanese Cuisine in Sapporo - KANIZA Crab Buffet
When visiting Hokkaido, indulging in crab is a must. I stumbled upon a recommendation for this all-you-can-eat crab and hot pot restaurant and immediately made a reservation. I used Tabelog for booking, which required an additional system fee of 440 yen per person, but I went ahead to avoid the risk of long queues.
The restaurant is conveniently located near Tanukikoji Shopping Street, about a 3-5 minute walk from either Susukino Station or Hosui-Susukino Station on the streetcar line.
There are three set menus to choose from. The most affordable option is 8,800 yen, which includes unlimited snow crab, beef belly, and pork. The mid-tier option is 11,000 yen, adding king crab and beef tongue. The premium option is 12,000 yen, which also includes wagyu beef.
In addition to the meat and crab, there is a self-service drink bar and a vegetable bar with a wide variety of options. It's rare to have a meal with such a good selection of hot vegetables.
☑️ Selected King Crab and Beef Tongue Hot Pot Buffet - 11,000 yen
Includes unlimited snow crab, king crab, beef belly, beef tongue, and pork. The crab and meat are served in an initial platter, and additional orders can be made conveniently by scanning a QR code.
The hot pot is a dual-flavor pot, and you can choose three out of five soup bases. We opted for the safe choices of clam broth and chicken white broth, which were decent but not particularly remarkable. The crab is served steamed and ready to eat, with picture guides provided for easier consumption.
✔️ Snow Crab: Likely Matsuba crab, with a smoother shell and finer texture.
✔️ King Crab: Large crab legs with a firmer texture and sweeter taste compared to snow crab. We ended up ordering this more often.
✔️ Beef Belly: A bit fatty, and two plates were enough before it became overwhelming.
✔️ Beef Tongue: Thinly sliced, so the texture was less noticeable.
✔️ Pork: I didn’t try it, and my dining companion didn’t reorder it, so it might not have been very appealing.
The self-service bar offers over 20 items, including lettuce, bok choy, garland chrysanthemum, cabbage, shiitake mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, baby corn, and more. For staples, there are udon noodles, regular noodles, and rice, ensuring you won’t leave hungry. The drink bar features six beverage options, and there’s also an all-you-can-drink alcohol plan available.
Overall, the price is reasonable, the crab quality is decent, and there’s a good variety of options. If you’re in Sapporo and craving king crab, this place is worth considering.
