First, let's explain some history. The old Sai Kung Pier was overloaded and busy in the 1980s. To solve the problem, the Hong Kong government started the construction of the new Sai Kung Public Pier in 2007, which was completed in 2009 and is managed by the Marine Department. The pier is mainly used for ferry services (small boats carrying passengers to and from various small islands) for embarking and disembarking passengers or a small amount of cargo. Along the coast, there are several ferry ticket counters, and visitors can also organize a group of 8 people for a private ferry tour around the Sai Kung coast. Nearby, there is a bus terminal with routes to the city center or Pak Tam Chung, as well as to Lady MacLehose Holiday Village. There are convenience stores, supermarkets, various bakeries, restaurants, and pubs. Near the bus terminal, there is a Volcano Discovery Centre and public restrooms. Overall, the Sai Kung area is beautiful and vast, making it a great place to spend several weekends for outings.

Sai Kung is known for its beautiful beaches and seafood as well. I went to Sai Kung for a friend's birthday party. We arrived before 6 pm, just the right time to secure a table for us while others who came after needed to queue for some time. We ordered a package for 6 people which is more than enough even though we are 8 (inc. 2 kids). Fried octopus, scallop, crab, shrimp, lobster, steamed fish, and fried rice, they are all so fresh 🤩🤩🤩 If you don't want to go for a package, you also can choose from the displaying tank and ask the restaurant to cook it for you. Some people come only to buy fresh ones for cooking at home. The restaurant can help us keep the birthday cake in their fridge while we enjoy our food. Trio Beach 三星灣

Trio Beach (三星灣) is located at Pak Sha Wan Peninsula, Sai Kung, probably one of the cleanest beach I’ve ever been to. It’s easily access but hidden from plain sight just 10-15 mins boat ride from Hebe Haven Pier. We went on a Sunday morning from 8.30am to 12.30pm. If you’ve been following my post, you should know our activity time is either early in the morning or midday, to avoid the crowd. Anyway, Trio Beach is a perfect beach to spent a day, with its soft sand, clean water (fishes right at the shores), easy to reach, stalls for refreshments, equipments and tools for rent or sale. Kids had much fun swimming with their life jackets I bought online, checking out fishes with the easybreath snorkel mask we got from Decathlon and definitely enjoyed jumping in to the water from the floating platform! The Tsiu Hang Nature Education Trail in Sai Kung is perfect for beginners, especially those who want to enjoy beautiful scenery without too much exertion😚. You can start from the Sai Kung Market or Sai Kung Highway, and cross the road via a small path to enter the area of the Lions Nature Education Centre. The environment here is tranquil and lush with trees. Walking along the uphill road, you will pass by a pavilion, a shell museum, and the entrance to the Rock Academy🥰. The highest point of the Tsiu Hang Nature Education Trail is less than 80 meters, with minimal elevation changes, making it a relatively easy and enjoyable walk. Here, you can not only appreciate the beautiful natural scenery around you but also feel the tranquility and harmony of nature. Although the trail is not very high, you can overlook the beautiful coastline of Sai Kung from some open areas🌊.

Sai Kung, known for its stunning coastline and tranquil fishing village atmosphere, is often referred to as the backyard of Hong Kong. On weekends, consider taking a day trip to Sai Kung to deeply experience its natural beauty and food culture. This time, we followed this day trip route: Take a minibus from Choi Hung to Sai Kung → Sai Kung Pier → Lions Nature Education Centre → Cafe Neko Bear Cave on Sai Kung Main Street → Sing Kee Seafood Restaurant → WM Hotel Hong Kong. There are several minibuses near Choi Hung Station that can take you to Sai Kung. Besides Choi Hung, you can also choose to take a minibus from Hang Hau. During the ride, the scenery outside the window gradually changes from the hustle and bustle of the city to the tranquility of nature. Upon arriving at Sai Kung Pier, the aroma of seafood restaurants fills the air. This place is not only a seafood paradise but also the starting point for exploring various islands in Sai Kung. From the pier, we walked to the Lions Nature Education Centre. There are five exhibition halls and multiple outdoor exhibition areas here, offering various nature education activities. After playing, we went to Sai Kung Main Street, where many cafes are gathered. We finally chose to taste the famous udon and cafe at Neko Bear Cave. The relaxed and pleasant environment there is perfect for resting and recharging. After lunch, we checked in at WM Hotel Hong Kong. The hotel's elegant and comfortable environment is an ideal place to relax and unwind. At dinner time, we went to Sing Kee Seafood Restaurant arranged by the hotel to enjoy a seafood feast. The seafood was fresh and delicious, and the unique techniques of the restaurant perfectly brought out the freshness of the seafood.

Walking around with the map on the top of the mountain with the kids was so exciting! It’s best to gather a few friends together and show team spirit🫶🏻 ——-——· 🗺️ Elementary • Orienteering 🧭·————- The editor participated in the ⛳️junior cross-country orienteering activity**, which is suitable for kindergarten students or beginner families. We used the directional map🗺️ provided by the conference to find 7️⃣ control points in sequence. Every time the children reach a control point, they have to answer questions by observing the natural environment in the countryside. 🎒Participant equipment: Available to request/borrow: - Map - Electronic Sensor🛰️ (used to record the time of visiting the control point) You can bring your own: - Compass - Stationery -Adequate moisture - Change of clothes ** The other two more difficult orientations require participants to visit more control points, or be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis. Getting There - Bus 96R Attractions - long harbour, pier, hiking path, 3-4 hrs. If you love hiking, you may opt to try this path, even though it may not offer you big pic of the city but you will be surrounded by nature which is just amazing. Hotels - There is no hotel but Camping site. Due to covid-19 it was not allowed to do camping. Food & Restaurants - small stores nearby. For meals, there are decent options in Saikung. From Cha chan teen to Seafood restaurants. Shopping - n/a, in order to shop, you may need to get to Sai Kung to get some food. Good thing is that we got to see the sunset.
