My visit to Rochester Castle was more than just a stop — it was a 4-day journey through English history, and I’m incredibly thankful to Trip.com for helping make the entire experience smooth and memorable.
I arrived in Rochester on April 10, 2025, and headed straight to the castle by 10:00 AM. The towering Norman keep greeted me like a medieval giant — stoic, weathered, and incredibly well-preserved. Standing since the 12th century, Rochester Castle is a living monument of England’s rich past, and walking through its massive stone archways felt like stepping directly into history.
Over the course of four days (April 10–13), I explored the castle and the charming town surrounding it at a relaxed pace. Each day, I revisited the grounds at different times, experiencing how the mood of the castle changed with the light — from golden morning hues to dramatic sunset shadows. The climb to the top of the keep offered stunning views over the River Medway and the picturesque rooftops of Rochester. It never got old.
I also spent time exploring the nearby Rochester Cathedral, quaint bookshops, and local cafes, all within walking distance. The mix of history, literature (Charles Dickens had strong ties to the town), and local charm made every moment feel rich and immersive. The town truly embraces its medieval roots, yet still offers cozy, modern comforts.
Trip.com played a big part in making my journey seamless. They helped me plan not just castle tickets and opening times, but also accommodations, train schedules, and top-rated dining spots. Their travel tips also highlighted local events happening that weekend — I even caught a small medieval fair near the castle grounds on Day 3, which was an unexpected delight!
My visit wrapped up around 5:00 PM on April 13, and I left with a heart full of stories, stunning photos, and a deeper appreciation for England’s layered history. Rochester Castle isn't just a site to visit — it's an experience that pulls you back in time.
For anyone looking to combine history, beauty, and a bit of adventure, I highly recommend Rochester Castle — and let Trip.com take care of the details so you can focus on the magic.
