I visited Italy four times in one year, and I'm here to share the best routes from north to south!
Italy, a country full of romance and art, always attracts me. I visited four times in one year, and twice I chose this beautiful land without hesitation. Today, I will share a carefully planned itinerary for Italy, taking you from northern Italy to southern Italy, and showing you the scenery you can't miss.
Milan: The starting point of fashion and art
The journey begins in Milan, a city full of fashion. It is not only a shopping paradise, but also a palace of art. Here, you can enjoy world-class art works and feel the profound culture of Italy.
Lake Como: The back garden of Milan
Depart from Milan and drive for half an hour to Lake Como. This quiet lake is surrounded by mountains, and the lake is clear and bottomless, like a beautiful picture. Stroll in the small town by the lake and feel the tranquility and beauty. Varenna, Bellagio, Lenno, each town has its own unique charm, especially those villas hidden in the lake and mountains, such as Villa Monastero, Villa Melzi and Villa del Balbianello, which are even more fascinating.
Dolomites: Green Wonderland in July, August and September
Continue north to the Dolomites. Here, July, August and September are the time when the grass is green, and there may be snow in mid-September. Drive for 4 hours from Milan to this fairyland. On the Alpe di Siusi, you can enjoy the magnificent sunrise and sunset. The Sporthotelsonne where we stayed has a great view. In addition, Ortisei and Val di Funes are also places not to be missed, especially the iconic small church in Val di Funes, which is impressive.
Florence and Tuscany: The cradle of the Renaissance
Go south to Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance, and Piazzale Michelangelo is a great place to watch the sunset. In Tuscany, from May to early June is the time when the grass is green. It takes 3 hours to drive from Rome. Here, you can live for a week and feel the tranquility and comfort. Recommended accommodation Villa Cozzano, located in a beautiful manor, surrounded by S-shaped cypress trees and beautiful houses. In addition, the town of Pienza is also a good place to heal the soul. It is located in the valley and is full of tranquility and harmony.
Rome: The charm of the eternal city
How can you miss Rome when you come to Italy? This eternal city is full of historical and cultural atmosphere, and every corner hides a story. Here, you can explore the ruins of ancient Rome and feel the shock of time and space.
Sicily: A dreamland all year round
Finally, come to Sicily. Here you can play all year round. Although the summer season is hot, the beautiful scenery of Cefalu, Taormina and Syracuse is definitely worth a visit. Cefalu is a postcard of Sicily, Taormina is a colorful town on the cliff, and Syracuse is the location of the beautiful legend of Sicily. Flying from Rome or Milan to Palermo or Catania, and then renting a car to visit Sicily, is a very comfortable way to travel.
This route from northern Italy to southern Italy covers many beautiful scenery and features of Italy. Whether it's fashionable Milan, quiet Lake Como, magnificent Dolomites, Renaissance Florence and Tuscany, eternal Rome or dreamy Sicily, it's all fascinating. If you love Italy like me, you might as well follow this route guide and go deep into this beautiful land!
Unforgettable Hospitality: A Warm Welcome at a 17th-Century Monastery B&B in Como
#hospitality #100waysoftravel #italytrip #como #accomodation #lakecomo
Our stay at a charming B&B Convento S. Antonio in Como left us with fond memories, thanks to its warm hospitality and unique setting. The B&B is housed in a stunning 17th-century monastery, with beautifully preserved wall and ceiling sculptures that left us in awe. We adored our cozy loft-style room, which added to the experience. The owner was incredibly helpful and full of humor—when we realized Italy uses different plugs from other European countries, he kindly lent us adaptors from his kitchen. He even provided a detailed map, marked with recommended restaurants and must-see attractions. Breakfast was a highlight, served buffet-style at a large communal table, and we were lucky to visit during peach season, enjoying a variety of sweet and juicy peaches.

Couple's Romantic Escape: Discovering Lake Como's Charming Towns by Ferry
#coupletravel #100waysoftravel #beautiful_italy #italy #lakecomo #romance #varenna #bellagio#como
Lake Como is the perfect spot for a romantic getaway, with its stunning scenery and charming little towns scattered around the lake. Surrounded by mountains and full of Italian charm, it’s a place where you can really unwind. We made sure to visit Bellagio, Menaggio, and Varenna—must-see towns that each have their own unique vibe. Instead of driving, we took ferries between the towns, which gave us amazing views of the colorful villages along the lake. We loved strolling through the peaceful streets, stopping for lunch and dinner at cozy Italian restaurants, and of course, enjoying plenty of gelato. The whole experience was just magical and the perfect escape for couples.
Good morning from Lake Como 🇮🇹

Spending a day at Lake Como this summer was like stepping into a postcard! The lake’s beauty is truly something you have to see to believe. We started our day in the charming town of Bellagio, often called the “Pearl of Lake Como.” The ferry ride to Bellagio cost about €10, and the views from the water were breathtaking, with the Alps in the background and elegant villas lining the shores.
Once in Bellagio, we wandered through the narrow cobblestone streets, filled with boutiques and cafes. We visited the stunning Villa Melzi Gardens, where the entrance fee was €6. The gardens were incredibly peaceful, with lush greenery and statues overlooking the lake.
Afterward, we enjoyed a leisurely lunch at a lakeside restaurant, savoring the local cuisine while soaking in the view. The day ended with a relaxing walk along the lakefront, watching the sunset over the water. Lake Como’s combination of natural beauty, charming towns, and serene atmosphere made it an unforgettable experience. 🌊🏞️ #trip #LakeComo #ItalianLakes #Bellagio #ScenicViews #TravelItaly
Lake Como | The Secret Land of Milan's Back Garden 🌊 🪴

One day in the town of Como, I found a safe haven to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
It only takes an hour from Milan to reach this quiet lakeside paradise. Whether you enjoy a delicious lunch at the lakeside restaurant in Varenna or look for unique handicrafts in a street shop in Bellagio, every moment of Lake Como is memorable.
Every step is a landscape, and every eye is a postcard, as beautiful as an oil painting. Shuttle through the slate road of Bellagio and feel the perfect integration of lakes and mountains. Here, time seems to slow down, making people intoxicated with this tranquillity and beauty.

Passalacqua.
I highly recommend Passalacqua! I stayed there in May, and it was the highlight of my trip to Italy. I experienced the best service, the best food, the best drinks, and the best views! Compared to other places around Lake Como, Passalacqua offers a sense of luxury and privacy. I can't wait to go back!
This place is an absolute sanctuary. My husband Ben and I stayed here, and we loved every aspect of our experience. The service was impeccable, and we are especially grateful to Eduardo, Daniele, and Stefania for making us feel cherished. We are thankful for Alberto's exceptional customer service upon arrival from another hotel, and because we loved the property so much, we decided to extend our stay by two nights, the 60-minute massage with Silvia was the best! The obsession with every beautiful detail of this property elevated the experience from luxury to world-class.

Finding Solace Close to Nature in Lake Como

Lake Como's breathtaking beauty rejuvenated my soul. Surrounded by lush greenery and crystal-clear waters, I felt at one with nature. A leisurely boat ride revealed hidden coves and picturesque villages.
Hiking trails offered stunning vistas, while quaint towns like Bellagio and Varenna charmed me. The sweet scent of blooming flowers and gentle lapping of waves against the shore soothed my mind.

Passing by Lake Como 🥰
#travellerswonderland
Passing by Lake Como felt like stepping into a dream! The shimmering blue waters surrounded by dramatic mountains were just incredible 🌄. I took a ferry from Como to Bellagio, which cost around €10, and the views from the boat alone were worth it. Each village we passed looked more picturesque than the last—Varenna was my personal favorite with its colorful houses and cozy streets.
Once in Bellagio, I spent hours wandering through its narrow, cobblestone lanes and stumbled upon Villa Melzi’s garden (entrance €6), which was so peaceful. The elegant villas along the lake’s edge are stunning, and every corner seemed photo-worthy!
If you’re into hiking, there are great trails nearby, but even just strolling along the waterfront with an espresso in hand was enough to make me feel like I was living in a postcard 🏞️. Make sure you plan for a sunset boat ride—the colors reflecting on the lake were unforgettable.

Visit to Lake Como
My visit to Lake Como was a captivating experience. The scenery here is enchanting, with mountains and clear blue waters blending together beautifully.
Walking along the lakeside, with its picturesque villages and traditional houses adding a special charm, was delightful. I took a boat to explore some areas, and the views from the water were stunning.
Dining at a restaurant overlooking the lake and savoring traditional Italian cuisine was truly delicious. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxing.
I recommend everyone to visit Lake Como to enjoy its natural beauty and romantic experience. It's an unforgettable destination! 🏞️🌅
Lake Como in the winter: the perfect time to visit?
Lake Como has long been a summer destination for those either looking for a longer break or on a day trip from Milan. However, visiting in the winter as we did can provide an alternative view of the lake. Without the crowds, and expensive prices you can feel free to explore this beautiful corner of the country with some places feeling like you’ve got the whole lake to yourself. In addition this can be coupled with a trip to nearby ski resorts such as Foppolo which has lift passes for a bargain €16 per day.

Lake Como (Lake Como) is the second section of our trip, less than an hour from Milan by bullet train. It is often the first choice for a one-day trip to Milan. It is also one of the scenic spots for the movie "Star Wars". Because it is formed for the glaciers of the Italian Alps, there is no shortage of snow-crowned mountains behind the beautiful scenery, coupled with the many luxurious mansions by the lake that have both "nobility" and artistic aura, so that a large number of "fans" come to patronize and share the essence of nature and humanities to Lake Como. Love, we naturally join in the fun.
The world's top hotel! Redefining luxury.
Passalacqua has completely changed my perception of a good hotel on all levels.
There are a total of 24 rooms scattered in the palace 🏯, villa 🏡, and garden 🌺 cottage, with nearly flat luxury public spaces.
✨The interior design is a display of Italian top craftsmanship. Each piece of furniture and every detail contains the owner's emotions and taste, making it not like a hotel for external operation, but more like a noble private residence.
.
✨The details of the room are impeccable, silver, leather, brass, and silk are shining everywhere, the Mini Bar is extremely generous, and three bottles of wine 🍷 are given. The all-marble bathroom, the fragrance and spare parts are just right with Aqua Como.
A retro Jolly is a classic landscape of Passalacqua. This convertible car is a symbol of Italian vacation. Guests can take it to cruise in the hotel's vast space, but we still choose to walk 🚶 to taste it carefully.
.
✨The hotel has a magnificent terraced garden!
A full ten steps, with seats for rest everywhere, with beautiful woven cushions, it seems that you can always lean on it for a while, look at the lake in a daze, in my opinion, this interprets the Italian classic Dolce far niente-sweetness of doing nothing.
The gym is set under the olive tree, you can watch Lake Como rowing 🏄🏻, running 🏃, playing tennis 🏌... I don’t know if George Clooney or Kimi have been here? And not swimming in the gorgeous pool 💦 is definitely a big regret of my trip.
.
✨The end of the garden is a carefully paved tunnel, winding paths leading to a secluded spot, leading to the hotel's yacht pier, the charming blue beauty 👗Riva docked... Maybe next time I come, I will take a boat to drink champagne at sunset 🌅 Lake tour
.
Make sure to include a visit to Lake Como on your list of must-see destinations!

If you choose to spend the night at Lake Como and stay in a hotel or guesthouse room with a view of the lake, you will definitely feel that the trip was worthwhile.
Como Town, named for its picturesque location on the shores of Lake Como, is an ancient town with a history of over 2,000 years.

Whether you are strolling along the shores of Lake Como or climbing to the top of Mount Como to overlook the entire lake area, you will feel refreshed and reluctant to leave.
Traveling in Italy (3): Bellagio
Bellagio is located at the intersection of the two branches of Lake Como, surrounded by water on three sides, offering unparalleled panoramic views.
Bellagio itself does not have a train station; you must take a car or boat from Como town or Varenna to get there.
Because it is situated at the confluence of the two legs of the 'Y' shape, its unique geographical location provides an exceptionally wide perspective. Climbing the mountain behind it, you can see the entire lake area and surrounding towns. It is said that on clear days, you can see the cathedral of Milan and even Mont Blanc, the highest peak in Europe on the French-Italian border.
Bellagio is a typical Italian town with narrow, winding cobblestone streets, stone walls covered in vines, and beautifully decorated small shops.
The town's cobblestone alleys are built along the hillside, with gift shops, wine cellars, and small restaurants lining the steps.
There are two famous villas in Bellagio: Villa Serbelloni and Villa Melzi. The latter was once the villa of Melzi, a famous politician from the Napoleonic era. The villa's garden is filled with lush plants, adorned with marble statues and Arab-style pavilions.
Villa Melzi was built between 1808 and 1813. This French-style building houses countless tropical plants, full of exotic charm. This villa was the place where Napoleon's king used to linger and rest.
Bellagio, Como Province
Traveling in Italy (Part 2): Lake Como
Lake Como, located in the stunning waters at the southern foot of the Alps in Italy.
Lake Como has a unique geographical advantage. It is situated at the southern end of the Alps, near the Swiss border, which makes the climate pleasant and spring-like all year round.
At the same time, Lake Como has an overall shape resembling a 'Y', being a long and narrow lake, divided and surrounded by several mountains. The lake water presents a gem-like blue-green color, which is breathtakingly beautiful.
There are many famous lakeside towns near Lake Como, each with its own unique characteristics. All of them have docks, and ferries and speedboats travel between them, making transportation very convenient.
The deep blue lake water and the red-tiled houses scattered on the mountains make it full of mystery and poetry. The warm and humid climate allows the plants here to grow lushly, and some villas by the lake, which have significant historical and architectural value, are very eye-catching.
Taking the red cable car to the top and overlooking Lake Como, what a refreshing and exhilarating experience!
Lake Como
Swiss Panorama Tour: Enchanted by the Charm of Como, Italy
On the seventeenth stop of the Swiss Panorama Tour, we step into the picturesque Como, Italy.
This historic city is like a splendid historical painting. By the shores of Lake Como, a gentle breeze caresses the water, shimmering with reflections of the charming buildings along the shore.
As early as the Roman era, it emerged as an important center for trade and cultural exchange. Throughout the ages, it has witnessed countless changes, with architectural relics from various periods serving as the best testimony. From medieval castles to Renaissance palaces, every brick and stone carries the memory of history.
Como is equally rich in cultural atmosphere. In the streets and alleys, artists passionately display their talents, with paintings, sculptures, and other artworks visible everywhere. The local residents are warm and hospitable, preserving ancient traditions while embracing modern changes with an open mind. During festivals, grand celebrations are lively and bustling, with people dressed in traditional costumes, singing and dancing, showcasing their unique cultural charm.
The first sight to behold is the Tempio Voltiano, a Palladian-style temple built in 1927 to commemorate the centenary of Alessandro Volta's death. It stands quietly, with two floors displaying items, instruments, and memorabilia related to this great inventor, as if narrating the glories of the past.
Continuing along the left bank promenade, we arrive at the 'Villa Walkway' built during the Habsburg dynasty. The first villa is Villa Saporiti, also known as Villa La Rotonda, designed by architect Leonard Pollack at the end of the 18th century. Its ancient walls and exquisite decorations exude former grandeur, and it is said that Napoleon Bonaparte, Queen Isabella of Naples, and Austrian Prince Ferdinand I once stayed here.
Villa Olmo is one of the most beautiful villas on Lake Como, with a history dating back to 1782. Its neoclassical style is enchanting, and before entering its splendid rooms, you will first be captivated by its magnificent park.
In the city center, the Gothic and Renaissance-style Como Cathedral stands out. The marble surface of the cathedral glistens in the sunlight, and its high octagonal dome adds to its solemnity and sanctity. The architectural style blends Gothic, Romanesque, and Renaissance elements, making it unique and charming. The cathedral is located at Cathedral Square, from where you can overlook the Broletto Palace built in the 13th century. Its exterior walls exhibit Gothic and Romanesque styles, blending together in a distinctive manner.
Behind the cathedral stands the former Casa del Fascio, a masterpiece of rationalist architecture. Its four facades are devoid of additional decorations, treated independently, yet the main facade and side elevations cleverly respect the relationship with the surrounding environment. Facing the square, the large colonnade on the main facade reinforces the 'hollow' feeling, providing a unique visual impact.
Additionally, Palazzo Terragni is one of Como's iconic buildings. This building is clad in white marble, with each of its four facades differing, leaving ample space for the display of the column-beam structure grid. Terragni understood the concrete frame as an abstract grid, satisfying modern architecture's exploration of structural features while maintaining traditional proportional divisions. Based on the layout of an Italian mansion, he introduced the concept of 'a glass house that everyone can see through,' using large areas of glass and a double-height atrium to connect the interior and exterior, subverting and transforming the mansion's meaning. When sunlight filters through the glass bricks into the interior, the interplay of light and shadow creates a dreamlike atmosphere.
Strolling through the streets and alleys of Como, feeling the blend of history and modernity, each building is like an open book, telling the story of this city.

Tips from Milan to Lake Como
Lake Como (Lago di Como) and Como are not the same place; Lake Como refers to the entire lake area, while Como is just one of the cities in the lake area, which is often confused by many.
From Milan to Lake Como, one usually first arrives at the city of Como, then transfers to a bus or boat to reach other towns.
There are two train stations in Como city, namely Como Nord Lago and Como S.Giovanni, which are about a 15-20 minute walk from each other.
Como Nord Lago / Como Lago (i.e., Como North Station) is closer to the lakeside and attractions. Right outside the station is the ferry terminal for various towns, with nearby attractions including Como Cathedral and the mountain cable car.
Although the journey from Milan Central Station to Lake Como is the fastest, it arrives at the station Como S.Giovanni, which is further from the lakeside attractions. As mentioned before, it is not recommended to stay near Milan Central Station due to the complex flow of people, and there are better choices in the city area. Besides the Central Station, another major station, Milano N.Cadorna, can also reach Lake Como, and it is closer to the attractions of the North Station, so it is not necessary to accommodate the train and choose to stay near the Central Station.
