There are free exhibitions on the second floor, as well as some historical introductions to brick kilns. After the visit, you can drive to the Jinxi Zhutian Ancient Kiln Ruins. Perhaps because we arrived too late, there wasn't a single other visitor. We drove around to a villager's house near the lake and parked, entered through an open gate, and were amazed by the brick kiln ruins. Although they are now dilapidated, and some brick kilns have even collapsed and are overgrown with grass, they appear extremely historical and weathered in the setting sun. There is an art gallery upstairs and a café downstairs (a bit pricey). There is a small door downstairs that leads into the kiln. Although there are lights inside, it is relatively dim. If you have children, they need to be accompanied by adults. Some areas require you to bend down to move forward. The exhibition hall provides some introductions about architecture and brick kiln culture. After visiting the Zhudian Brick Kiln Culture Museum, there is a very pleasant small garden across the street where you can have afternoon tea. The scenery is beautiful and photogenic, and it is very quiet. When I went there, there happened to be a team-building event, with people doing crafts and enjoying afternoon tea, which was very relaxing. It can be said to be an escape from the city plan!

At first glance, you might think it's Jingdezhen! But actually, it's not. This is the Zhudian Brick Kiln Culture Museum located about a hundred kilometers away from Shanghai in Kunshan, Suzhou, a small yet beautiful place that integrates brick kiln cultural preservation, display, experience, and leisure. The Zhudian brick kiln site was established during the Ming and Qing dynasties, and to this day, there are still 11 well-preserved ancient kilns. In 2015, Cui Kai, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a master architect, transformed the old brick and tile factory into the current Zhudian Brick Kiln Culture Museum, while preserving the original architectural style and structure of the brick factory. The museum opens at 9:30 in the morning, is open all year round, and offers free admission. The first floor of the museum mainly serves as a light dining area and houses the brick kiln culture museum, which displays the process of making 'jinzhuan' (gold bricks) at the brick factory and the bricks and tiles produced here from various periods, especially the famous gold bricks. Some of the brick-making kiln caves are also preserved for visitors to explore. The second floor is a brick culture exhibition area, with a space in the middle for student activities and some of the old factory buildings on both sides, allowing visitors to clearly understand the brick-making process. If you are visiting Kunshan, Suzhou, I suggest you take half a day to visit the Zhudian Brick Kiln Culture Museum. The Zhudian Brick Kiln Cultural Museum is located in Tongli, Wujiang, Suzhou. Decades ago, this place must have been a brick kiln, but now it has been transformed into a cultural museum. On the first floor, there is a restaurant and a coffee shop. The second floor is locked, but through the crack of the door, I can see paintings being displayed inside. The environment around the cultural museum is beautiful and tranquil, with a small river flowing quietly beside it. In the distance, cottages, fields, trees, and flowers compose a perfect picture. We sit in the afterglow of the setting sun, enjoying this wonderful time.
