🎏Shimabara, the Japanese real city, 0 Koreans, 0 waiting
🎏 Shimabara, Nagasaki Prefecture, a town where carp swim
Shimabara is a quiet town in Japan that would be nice to visit at least once when visiting Nagasaki or Fukuoka.
It was nice that you could use highway buses, JR, and Shimabara Railway instead of the expensive Shinkansen.
In particular, the train of Shimabara Railway was bright yellow, so it was a spectacular sight when it stopped at Omisaki Station, which is right next to the sea. Japanese locals also say that it is a photo spot because it appeared in a drama.
The reason I want to recommend it more than anything else is because it is a place that is not well known to tourists, including Koreans, compared to any of the recommended small Japanese cities on Instagram recently. As of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in December, I have never waited in line for a restaurant, and I have never heard Korean spoken at a famous tourist attraction! In places like Fukuoka and Osaka, there were so many tourists that it was confusing whether this was Korea or not😅
📍Major attractions
- Yusuiteien Shimeiso
: It's a well-decorated small garden that reminds you of Japan. It's the place where you can get the best shot in the representative photo. I recommend going on a sunny day! The staff will take commemorative photos for you and are very kind. You can see big carp swimming under your feet.
- Shimabara Castle
: I thought the castle wouldn't be that big because it's a small town, but it was bigger than I imagined. I went in with a light heart and was going to just take a picture of the castle and leave, but around 11 AM, the staff in samurai attire performed and we had a great time.
- Himematsuya Main Store
: I was recommended to a Japanese friend who's from Shimabara and it was a huge success! Shimabara's specialty, Kanjarashi, is a snack made with rice cakes in honey water, and it's a flavor worth eating as a souvenir.
-Omisaki Station (station near the sea), Unzen (famous for Unzen Jigoku Onsen, 1 hour by city bus from Shimabara)
📍Hotel
-Business Hotel Chidori
: We chose this place because it was close to Shimabara Station and we were looking for a place where two college students could stay for 2 nights with good cost-effectiveness! So the room condition was not that good and it had the atmosphere of a 1~2 star hotel, but the room was spacious for a Japanese hotel, and the Japanese room had a hot spring yukata and tatami mats, so it was a special experience where you could feel Japan to your heart's content! The moment you entered the closet, you could experience Doraemon...
