Shaoxing | Ying'enmen Style Water Street
Ying'enmen Style Water Street. Born by the water and grown up with it, Shaoxing, with its soft Wu dialect as sweet as the oriole's singing, is one of the must-visit cities on my travel list. When I entered Shaoxing in the drizzle, the Ying'enmen Style Water Street in the night captured my heart with its tranquility amidst the hustle and bustle. Walking on the streets paved with bluestone slabs, with a gentle breeze and a soft rain, every step felt like stepping into the aromatic history, and my heart spontaneously filled with joy.
About Ying'enmen Style Water Street:
Ying'enmen Style Water Street starts from the historical site of Ying'enmen in the east and extends to the ancient Zhongshan Temple in the west. It is a commercial pedestrian street that blends historical heritage with the charm of southern Yangtze River towns. The streets built across the water inherit the spatial beauty of traditional courtyard houses. With a river and a street forming the city's memory, strolling here allows one to experience the essence of traditional Chinese culture, as well as enjoy shopping, leisure, and gourmet food. This experience is undoubtedly the best interpretation of travel life.

Wishing Shaoxing Ancient City a Prosperous New Year in 2024
The 2024 'Wishing Shaoxing Ancient City a Prosperous New Year' series of events brought a traditional and festive atmosphere to the Spring Festival for visitors to Shaoxing, ensuring a lively and prosperous celebration!
On February 3rd, the New Year's kick-off ceremony was witnessed in Shaoxing Ancient City, with simultaneous lighting of the Ying'en Gate Lantern Festival, City Square Lantern Festival, Yellow Wine Town Lantern Festival, and the Didang Light Show! The drone performance in the skies above Shaoxing, which amazed and thrilled all the tourists, showcased brilliant images such as 'Great Luck for the Year of the Dragon', 'Blessings for the Ancient City in the New Year', 'The Famous City of Shaoxing Getting Better and Better', and 'Dragon Dancing in the Sky'.
On Ying'en Gate Water Street, there was a flower boat parade, ancient-style singing on the water, a folk culture extravaganza with fire dragon, luminous lions, wind fire wheels, canal poetry gatherings, and canal markets featuring intangible cultural heritage, local culture, food and drinks, creative handicrafts, a water market with fresh flowers and delicious food on awning boats, and lantern riddles among other rich and colorful festive activities.
The dragon boat parade around the city's moat, from Chengbei Bridge to Ying'en Gate to Youyi Village, formed a long procession of awning boats that was dazzling and stunning in the night, attracting crowds on both banks to stop, watch, and take photos amidst continuous laughter and joy.
At the city square, one could see the dazzling New Year lantern exhibition, featuring legendary images from the 'Classic of Mountains and Seas', with long dragons, dragon horses, qilins, phoenixes, jade rabbits, and more, so beautiful that it was hard to leave. Of course, don't miss the Shaoxing Grand Gathering (2.3~2.17)! Unlike ordinary markets, it features New Year goods and traditional items from local Shaoxing brands, all of high quality. There will also be intangible cultural heritage experiences on-site, as well as exotic agricultural products from the Mabian region of Sichuan's Daliang Mountains and special Yi ethnic group performances, making it a fun and delicious destination for the Spring Festival.
During this period, there will also be Hanfu ancient-style lantern parades, New Year fireworks shows, and a variety of other rich and diverse traditional activities, truly a scene of peace, prosperity, and flourishing success! So come to Shaoxing this Spring Festival for a fun and festive experience

I successfully followed the trend, and the lanterns at Ying'en Gate are really beautiful
Come to Shaoxing Ying'en Gate for the Lantern Festival, although it's drizzling today🌧️, when night falls and the lights come on, I feel it's really worth it!
This is truly the romance of the Jiangnan water towns, with colorful lanterns hanging from the small bridges, reflecting brilliantly in the lake water~ The sound of flowing water, and the sight of boats slowly cruising through, is so beautiful~
There are also many special snacks and Lantern Festival folk activities on both sides of the river, which are great to explore😆

Last week I was in the state of Chu, and this week I've arrived in the state of Yue.
Last weekend I was touring the Special Forces in Wuhan.
I visited the Hubei Provincial Museum and learned about the intricate relationship between the state of Chu and Yue due to the sword of King Goujian of Yue. This weekend I've arrived in 'Yue country' Shaoxing.
Although as someone from Shanghai, I'm almost sick of the Jiangnan charm because the surrounding areas of Jiangsu and Zhejiang are where we most often go, I have to say after arriving that the water towns of Jiangnan are still beautiful.
The Ying'en Gate Style Water Street was recommended by local relatives (elders), saying it used to be very lively, but now many shops have closed. However, looking at the lights at night is still nice. Our group of eight seniors, I just followed them here, and it really didn't disappoint!!! From sunset to night, it's so beautiful!!!
We arrived after four o'clock, there were no people, and many shops were not open, we thought it was almost 'closing down'. But after the lights were on at night, more people showed up, the stalls opened, and there were people taking the boat rides,
The boats here are decorated with fresh flowers and lit up, super pretty! It seems
The main attraction here is to see the night view.

Ying'en Gate Style Water Street is not just a tourist attraction, it's more like a residential area full of old Shaoxing flavor, providing a living experience with historical characteristics for local residents. Tourists here can feel a charm as if they are strolling in the old times of the Jiangnan water town, especially when the night falls, the lights are beginning to come on, the whole water street is shrouded in warm light and shadow, adding a sense of tranquility and romance. Such an atmosphere is intoxicating, enough to let people sit quietly by the river, enjoying this unique atmosphere and beautiful scenery from the ancient water city.
