Visit the Ancestral House in Cebu
Dating back to the Spanish colonial era of the 1600s, the Yap Sandiego Ancestral House is a museum that sheds light on the Chinese settlements of the city. It is said to be among the first Chinese houses to be built outside of the country. Find out about the unusual blend of Spanish and Chinese cultures that infiltrated the Philippines centuries ago.
Note that the structure is built from a mixture of wood and coral stones, with red tiles making up the curved roof. Enjoy the green ambiance generated by the potted plants flanking the entrance walkway.
Enter the building and gaze up at the hanging chandeliers and the interior part of the red-tile ceiling that is held together by dark, wooden beams. Creaking floorboards and lingering echoes evoke a bygone era. Imagine the family members and friends who spent time here over the centuries. Browse the majestic statues and artistic collections put together by choreographer Val Sandiego.
The house is thought to have been constructed sometime between 1675 and 1700. Chinese merchant Don Juan Yap built the site as a residence for himself and his wife Doña Maria Florido. Learn about their offspring and subsequent generations. The head of the Parian district married into the family in the 1880s. Understand who they were through historical paintings of Ceubu and intriguing relics from family life, which include period furniture and a clay jar that stored water.
The building teaches us about the architectural styles of the houses here centuries ago, including the fact that they often had second stories. Pay a small entrance fee to access the building and its museum. It opens daily from morning until early evening.
The Yap Sandiego Ancestral House is in the Parian neighborhood in the southeastern part of the city. Take a jeepney bus to the stops of Mabini St. or Zulueta St. Marvel at the sculptures and scenes portrayed in the Heritage of Cebu Monument nearby and wander down Colon Street, which is among the country’s oldest roads.

Yap-San Diego Ancestral House!🇵🇭
👣A place that is worth a stop ! ▶️
I enjoyed a stroll around this house looking at all of the antiques. it is considered as one of the oldest existing residential structures in the country and a proof the Parian district in Cebu City was a bustling barangay where houses are often designed with a second storey. The Yap-San Diego ancestral house🏠 was built in 1675, according to tour guide. It was owned by the family of a Chinese merchant, Don Juan Yap and his wife Doña Maria Florida. The house mainly shows the Cebu City scene before the Spaniards came, with pictures of local customs and wonderful family stories, fully demonstrating the influence of China🇨🇳 and Spain 🇪🇸on the marriage culture of Cebu. The ancestral house can be broadly divided into three parts: The ⬇️, the upper floor⬆️ and the garden🍁💐🌸.

Yap Sandiego Ancestral House in Cebu City
Cebu has a lot to offer for our tourists and foreign visitors. It is our pride to share our rich culture and history.
I went to Yap and Sandiego Ancestral House last September. I have encountered lot of tourists not just coming from Cebu but they came from different City such as Manila. I saw the excitement felt by the people around me that time.
It was located along the highway of Pari-an Cebu City. There were also trip/vans for rent that offering to bring you in different tourist attractions of Cebu City.
There were also hotels, market and malls nearby. This ancestral house is accessible to any transportations, so not a problem at all. :)

Preserved historical beauty and glory
The house was formerly known as “balay nga bato ug kahoy” which translates to “house made of stone and wood” and is now widely popular by the name Yap-Sandiego Ancestral House. This was inherited from a Chinese couple by their daughter Maria who married her spouse Don Mariano Sandiego.
This is just a quick visit as part of our heritage tour. This house is all that remains in the Parian Street in the 1600s and everything inside still holds history. The owners have kept almost everything from how it used to, from the floor which is made of hardwood and coral stones, to its Tisay clay tile-roof. They have also maintained not just the exterior, but also the interior beauty. There are a lot of artifacts, paintings, old furniture, antiques and wooden religious figures displayed for everyone to witness how people have lived then.

Yap-Sandiego Ancestral House is also one of the oldest house built in Cebu City. They say that it was built by a Chinese that resides in Cebu. The house is just a walk away from Casa Gorordo, which is also one of the oldest house in the city, and near from the Heritage of Cebu. Old furnitures used by the owners are well-kept and still lovely. It is indeed a place to visit to experience Cebu's well-preserved culture.

Stepping back to history!
This is the main reason why I wanted to go back to Cebu! One of the oldest preserved ancient house in the Philiplines! I adore this place so much that once stepping into the property will give you chills in a good way.
Ask yourself, when was the last time you saw wooden houses properly preserved for the younger generation to witness?
It may not bring 100% good memories but will let us think of what the past went through.
I may not be making sense write now, but go and see it for yourselves! When I tell you It will not disappoint, it really wont!

Yap-San Diego Ancestral House
#cebutrip Great filling museum. Perhaps the oldest ancestral house in all of the Philippines. It is still owned by the 10th generation of the Yap family. In fact, they still stay there on the weekends. It's filled with plenty of old heirloom artifacts and artwork. It was built back in 1675 and is in remarkably great condition. It's very fun seeing how a wealthy Chinese-Filipino family lived back in that era.

Yap-Sandiego Ancestral house is one of the oldest of its kind in this region and probably in Cebu city. The exact location of this ancient house is in Mabini Street in Parian and very old Colon Street is close to the Yap-Sandiego ancestral house. Expert historians claim that the house was evidently built in 1675. #wintergetaway

One of my favorite places in Cebu City is this beautifully preserved ancestral house of the Yap-Sandiego Family. ♥️
They were able to take care of all the porcelains, the statue of saints, their clothes, the paintings, furnitures, and many more. This ancestral house teaches us a lot of things about the previous generation, and I couldn't be more grateful to their family for allowing us a glimpse of the past.
