The morning market at Hachigoto Koshoji Temple.
Koshoji Temple in Hachigoto, Nagoya was built in 1686. The mountain is called Hachigoto Mountain, so it is also called Hachigoto Kannon. There is an important cultural heritage five-story pagoda in the temple. This is the only existing wooden five-story pagoda in the Tokai region and is quite exquisite. Koshoji Temple is well-known mainly because it was once the prayer temple of the Owari Tokugawa family. In 1688, Owari Tokugawa Mitsutomo converted to Buddhism here.
On the 21st of every month, a market is held in the square in front of Xingzheng Temple from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, selling local specialties, coffee, clothes, etc. Get off at Hachigo Subway Station, exit 1, and turn right 200 meters past Sapporo Crab Honke.
The first shop is all kinds of vegetables🥬. A bit cheaper than in the city. I tasted the products of a jam shop before arriving at the mountain gate. The strawberry jam had a strong aroma and I liked it very much.
After passing the mountain gate, there is a shop next to the five-story pagoda that sells various types of shrimp cakes. The owner was very polite. I tasted the cakes of various flavors and finally bought a bag for 400 yuan to show my support.
Further in, there is a roasted chestnut shop. The roasted chestnut equipment is very interesting and looks like a cannon, attracting many tourists to watch. There were also many people who brought their own dogs 🐩. Although there are not many shops in the entire market, it feels very relaxing and quiet to shop there, without the noise of a large market like the Daxu Guanyin. Very comfortable.
