Be bold and rent one. It's 20-25 for a day, and they generally won't rip you off unless there's serious damage. 3⃣️ Our itinerary today was ⛰️ Laozhai Mountain, in Xingping County of Yangshuo (ask any local shop owner in Xingping Town, they all know). We rode the electric scooter there and back. ❗️ The admission is free, and there's no one guarding it! You just need to be brave! The road along the way is not very good, and there might be some 'immortals'. Just pray for safety, and once you reach the top, you have to climb rocks to get to the panoramic view of the Li River landscape. ❗️ Don't go too late. The whole visit, including walking around and taking pictures should last between 2 to 3 hours. Beautiful surroundings, impressive architecture are two characteristics that make worthy to visit this place. Speaking of food, it would take a long time to sample all the traditional dishes. Every speciality is reasonably-priced so there is no excuse to try some local cuisine. It is located in the Ancient Town of Xingping which is a popular landmark of the city. It can be reached by taxi or walking distance if you are staying in any of the hotels nearby that area. This is a fantastic place to spend a couple of hours having a drink and enjoying the good looking and tasty food. It is a medium size restaurant with a nice atmosphere, service is basic but good and the food is nicely presented. It has inside and outside dining options and the building is a beautiful historical conservation building. Breathtaking landscape of 20 Yuan 🤩

A must-visit famous background spot of the 20 RMB note. Guilin’s landscape, through its spectacular karst mountains, provides a breathtaking landscape and known as the best landscape of the country. Plus locals specialty brunch (Chicken stew and rice in a bamboo) at Dawei Ancient Town. From the Yangshou west center we took a Didi car and send us directly to that spot. We paid 40 rmb to get quality photos for both printed and electronic copies. A lovely afternoon in Xingping

I took a quick hike up a mountain to get a beautiful view of the river and then headed down to the river. The cormorant fisherman down by the river makes for amazing photos. To get to the mountain: type “Lao Zhaishan” 老寨山 into your GPS app and follow the directions. Make sure to take some water with you. The hike isn’t too difficult but coming down the mountain is a bit more difficult than going up the mountain. The cormorant fisher men can by found down by the river close to the 20 RMB photo location. There are plenty of other activities to do around Xingping, I only had one afternoon and I wish I stayed longer.

So it was our last day in Yangshuo and we had managed to book a meeting and sunset shoot with Mr Huang, a traditional cormorant fisherman turned insta-model. We couldn't wait. BUT, at 4pm, it started pouring with rain.. Now, it had been raining the whole trip, but those lasted a few minutes. This was different. It just didn't stop. Shoes, pants and top were wet. Even my underwear! But we weren't worried about that. Our question was would the rain stop before we were to meet Mr Huang? We could only wait and see. Luckily, it stopped 45 minutes before our meeting! We met Mr Huang by the river side. His distinctive long white beard and pair of fierce looking cormorants gave a glimpse of what the Li River would have been like decades ago. The moment was perfect! The karst mountains was such a perfect backdrop that I stopped taking photos and just sat and watched the sun disappear. I've met many amazing characters during my travels, but Mr Huang is by far my favorite, his smile has a magical calming presence. Pure serenity. Flew to Guiyang and visited Qibg Yan Ancient City and enjoyed the nostalgic experience but the photo-taking sessions within the streets was an added surprise as the pictures of my children dressed in costumes as prince and princess of Qing dynasty were remarkable. Guilin's Yangshuo was a 2 hour trip from Guiyang on high speed train. Hence, we had no hesitation to visit soon after 3 days' stay in Guiyang. We were exceedingly surprised when we checked into Hilton Garden Hotel in Yangshuo when we found out its backyard is overlooking a river that sits on the foot of the majestic mountains. it was so picturesque and tranquil that we stayed an entire week instead of a day. Surprises add on as we discovered there was a horse-back riding range that provides a boat ride to bring us to their premises. Horses are clean and well maintained. My kids loved it, and we went riding for 3 consecutive days. My wife and daughter had a moment captured against the backdrop of the mountain with a glimpse of sunlight that manifested into an impeccable photographic amalgamation.

101Guide: Xingping Ancient Town 兴平古镇 the RMB20 Place

👀 Introduction: Xingping Ancient City (兴平古镇) or aka Xingping Old Town is located on the banks of the Lijiang River in the north of Yangshuo. Known to be as old as 1700+ you can still see many historical buildings still not dilapidated, which is kinda amazing. I have been to more than 🔟 ancient towns but this really stands out in terms of the ancient bridges 🌉, building architecture 🏢, wharf and other scenic areas.. Simply Amazing!! Also this place is home to the iconic RMB20 💵 scene which I think needs no introduction. 🏖️ The Attraction: The town is kinda a smallish area which you can probably go round it in 10 or 15mins. It's no way compared to Yangshuo West Street which is much much bigger and more commercialized. However, if you like nature.. imagine having a cuppa coffee with the beautiful mountains ⛰️ as a backdrop or some scenic landscape with the ethnic minorities doing the audio 🔉 overlay. Priceless!! As with many popular tourist 🏖️ spots in China, the only negativity is the flood of tourist flocking the place (esp in a small place like Xingping Ancient City). From morning the whole place will be super crowded, jamming from cafes ☕ to restaurants 🍲 and even streets. Was lucky to find the Rosemary Cafe (which is also a hotel), located just at the border of the entrance and more importantly . Peaceful. Love the Caramel Macciato ☕ here which was creamy and nice. The staff and people here are super friendly too.. 💡 Recommended for a visit here! If you have been to Ancient Villages especially near Guilin or Guiyang before, the same stuff applies.. beer fish 🐠, cafes, osmanthus 🌸 flavored products and handicrafts.. Pretty standard stuffs. Strangely, most of the cafes ☕ open quite late. Like I mentioned, this place is definitely not a shopping destination. It's more nature and fresh air...and speaking of that, was told by a local here that the air here is "sweetly fresh" and you can virtually feel it.. every breath you take ☺️. I concur. 🔚 Conclusion Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟 4.5/5 The place is really relaxing 🧘♂️ and score full marks in "Nature Therapy" namely calming with positive effect, both mentally and physically. We really enjoyed ourselves here and I wouldn't mind visiting this place again. 💡 Tip: There are 2 alternative routes to this place. We chose the slightly longer way where you go through Yangshuoxian (country road route). Amazing scenic views and the fresh air here is unbelievable.
